I stayed with Kaye and Arnie for an extended period of time. I used the studio as my base for going out to do wildlife photography. I wanted somewhere quiet with an area to relax outdoors. Also security was important. I got all of those here. The whole environment was restful and secure. The dogs were no problem and ignored me most of the time as if I belonged there. But if any stranger went past the gate they were very vocal. On a couple of occasions I needed to see a doctor for minor reasons and Kaye was gracious enough to take me. Both she and Arnie were always willing to help even if it was just to answer a question. There is a café/restaurant 15 mins walk up the road which is very nice and quiet and has tasty food. There are offices for scanning/printing there also. Kaye has very good wifi in the studio. The studio itself is self contained. The little township of Karen is a delight and the people are friendly. It's only a few mins in a taxi and I used the company that comes to Kaye's house. You can get anything you need there and the supermarket is very well stocked. There are also two other food supply shops . Que Pasa is a nice café in Karen and is frequented by tourists. There is an ATM right outside the supermarket and another next to Que Pasa...plus a forex. Fresh fruit and flowers are in the market area along with lots of souvenirs. Staying at Kaye's provided me with everything I needed with the added bonus of a beautiful garden with gazebo for relaxing or sun chairs for sunning. Arnie is a dab hand at cooking pizzas in his outdoor oven too. The staff are a delight and I always got a cheery Jambo through the window each morning. I handed my laundry in to be washed each week and it always came back ironed and neatly folded. I don't even do that at home! All in all, a very pleasurable experience. Thanks Kaye and Arnie.
The stay in de studio of Kaye was wonderfull. It was a very clean studio. Kaye was very nice and did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Also her servants were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. So I could definitely recommend a stay here!
We had a great stay at kaye's Bonny and Clyde studio. It' s located in a safe area, within Karen, not far from restaurants and supermarkets and quite close to Wilson airport and Nairobi national park. Kaye helped us a lot by giving great advice about Nairobi and referring us to a good and flexible driver, to make all our travel plans possible. The studio is spacious and comfortable and provides privacy. The surroundings are quiet and green. I would definitely recommend staying with her!
We have had a wonderful time in Kaye's Studio in Karen. Kaye and her staff are really helpful and accomodating. The place is almost new and in very good condition. The studio is cleaned every couple of days upon request and private laundry service is offered be done for a small fee.
Internet is fast and in case blackout of electricity, the backup generator is started automatically.
The garden is open for us to use and for the rest we have all the freedom we wish for ourselves.
I love staying at kaye's. This is the second time I have. Before I used to stay at the InterContinental and the Country Lodge. But Kaye's is much better. The rooms are spacious and quiet. A small kitchen is provided, perfect for breakfast. The last time I was by myself. This time I stayed there with three family members. She gave us kitchen privileges for breakfast, which was terrific. The house is in Karen and extremely convenient. The area can't be beat for either work or tourism...the elephant orphanage and giraffe park are close by. So are many of Nairobi's best restaurants. It's a rare gem in a big city---staying in a luxurious, spacious home with a warm feeling and close to everything. A real value, considering the city's rising costs.
My time at Kaye's place was really wonderful... haven't just come from the crazy hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan city it was absolutely wonderful to find the peace and calm that her place affords.
The apartment is somewhat off the beaten path, it's literally a block away from the Kenyan Vice President's home to give you an idea of the type of community it is in, but there is a small shopping center not to far away that had several good little restaurants as well as a grocery store. Also if you're heading to the National Park I'm not sure you could find a nicer place any closer.
Milk, juice bread, eggs and a few other food items were there for me upon my arrival which was really quite a nice touch.
Mosquitos at night were a bit annoying, I would recommend using the net over the bed from your first night on if you're gonna enjoy the wonderful evening breeze, as opposed to having a "test" night like I did just to see how annoying them can be ( ;
Kaye was also more then accommodating and gracious when I found myself in a pinch and that was greatly appreciated.
The apartment is truly a nice place and I would definitely recommend it to friends who were traveling that direction! ( :
Really nice small apartment which is part of the main house. The garden is very beautiful with a good shaded seating area. Kaye is a delightful hosts. I would happily stay here again.
We had an excellent stay at Kaye's place. She was very accommodating and helpful, and even let us rent her car for the day. House staff was also extremely nice and helpful, and the place was clean, easy and in a great location. If you need a nice place to stay in Karen, this is an excellent option.
Kaye's place is great. It's more of a one bedroom apartment (with two bathrooms!) on the ground floor of a large home. Located in an upscale residential community near Karen, where a lot of ex-pats live, the home has easy access to grocery stores and excellent restaurants. At night, the quiet is breathtaking. Her garden is beautiful and in the morning, birds sing in the trees and flowers. The security is exceptional. The apartment is very tastefully decorated and comfortable, with a desk, a couch and an overstuffed armchair in the living room. It has lots of big windows so the light pours in. The shower has instant (and endless) hot water, which is great. There is a large closet and dresser in the bedroom and a second desk and chair. She has a large flat screen TV in the living room but I never turned it on. Kaye has thought of everything--towels, dish soap, etc. And she had fruit and juice waiting for me in the kitchen for my breakfast the morning after I arrived. The apartment is very clean and the bedding is great. Kaye was there if I needed something but very non-intrusive. The Wi-Fi is good and I used it a lot. I liked the private entrance--I left early in the morning and came back late some nights. After staying in many Nairobi hotels, I can't emphasize enough what a great place this is. I was there to work and the desks, quiet and privacy made it great for that. But if you're on a vacation, the peacefulness and proximity to Karen make it perfect.
This was a lovely studio within a secure setting. Everything we needed for our stay was available within the studio. Kaye and her staff were really helpful. Well worth every penny and we would highly recommend staying here.
