Craig and Lucille are the perfect hosts: generous and positive energy, a beautiful home, a wonderful neighborhood. They made us feel welcome from the very first moment we arrived at Montauk, and we are still raving about their breakfast and kindness. The outdoor shower is a bliss and rainbow making machine. If you are looking for your perfect Montauk stay, look no further.
We had a very enjoyable experience at Thistle Dew!!! The accommodation had a separate entrance which created a private setting along with an option of an inside or outside shower. Breakfast was great and Craig and Lucille made us feel right at home. Will definitely go back.
We had a fantastic time staying with Craig at Thistle Dew. We are newlyweds, and we decided to stay pretty local for our honeymoon. Craig is an incredible host and is a really sweet guy. I think Craig said we were his first newlyweds, so it was clear that he was going above and beyond to make it a special visit. Our first morning, he gave us a 45-minute driving tour of Montauk and showed us what not to miss. This gave us plenty of material to keep us busy for the entire visit. Craig gave us ready access to bikes (we highly suggest biking to the lighthouse or to Shadmoor State Park), beach equipment, kayaks, and material for making a fire on the beach at night. Breakfast each morning was fantastic (we had challah french toast, a breakfast burrito, and a breakfast taco) and his coffee is really good.
The beach is very close to Craig's house and is great. It's in my #5 favorite beach (#1-4 are in Hawaii). Plenty of room to spread out, and the waves are great. The water was cold in June, but refreshing. The accommodations are fantastic--the room is comfortable, and the outside shower is exquisite.
Overall a great experience. Craig was very attentive from the booking. The house is in a great location, 10 minute walk or 2 minute bike ride to the best beach in Montauk. Craig has bikes, body boards, beach chairs and more as well.
Only downside was that the room was in the basement so any noise carries. However Craig did say he was planning to install a door which would help tremendously.
I needed to respond to this last review. Please see all previous reviews for a more accurate description ...the bedroom is on the "first" or "ground"
floor of our home and has 2 oversized casement windows. "Large sun-filled room" as one previous tenant said.
Also, the Ditch is 3 blocks away 5 minutes max for healthy individuals maybe 10 if you are walking with a cocktail in hand.
The noise can sometimes travel but the house is quiet after 11:00 while hosting unless we happen to be watching stars on deck "with" our guests.
again Eric and Megan are lovely but EARLY to bed and early to rise.
We had a great experience staying in the Thistle dew, we would definitely go back !
great food. beach is perfect. got do use the kayaks. awesome stars at night. ride the bike to/from the beach. no shoes. just sand.
Craig is really a great host! he picked us up from the train and made a small tour of the town pointing the best placed to go. Made us breakfast and coffee each day. He have us good tips to explore the city and even point out when the sky was perfect to see stars!
Craig and Lucille provided beach towels, umbrellas and chairs. Bathroom and room where clean and nice. There is a small fridge you can use to keep some wine cold, or keep leftover from The Harvest restaurant.
Town is close to the house. You can take a taxi ($10 bucks anywhere in montauk) or bike there. Local supermarket had everything we could need.
Restaurants in the city and the harbor where very good. Great sushi!
Ditch Plains beach is very close to the house. Just a few minutes ride on the bike and its gorgeous. The first days the sea was very calm, we even took the kayaks in :) . The next days it was more rough, apparently perfect for surfing as it was filled with surfers. I don't surf, but it was very fun to watch them. Bathrooms in the beach where very clean.
I made my reservation last minute, Craig and Lucille were super helpful and fast to respond. Unfortunately i didn't get to meet them but their son was there to help and make me feel home. House is friendly and home like. it is located 3 blocks from the beach, quite with mostly surfers. great spot for catching up on quite and peace.
This was my first time using Airbnb to rent a room for someone, and it was a great experience! The house is a great location only a few minutes walk to Ditch Plains Beach. Craig and Lucille were so nice and my boyfriend and I enjoyed chatting with them. They made us breakfast and coffee and even gave us a ride in to town. I would definitely recommend staying with them!
