I AM VERY SORRY, I AM CLOSED AGAIN DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
The New House at La Charrette is a traditional stone house, built circa 1910, sympathetically brought up to date but retaining the feel of the old building. The ground floor is a light and airy living space with a fully equipped kitchenette. On the first floor is a double bedroom with a lovely view across the garden and a meadow, and the family bathroom with bath, toilet and walk in shower. Above this is a large room with 3 single beds.

The space
The house offers comfortable and peaceful accommodation set in its own large garden in a small hamlet, surrounded by woods and fields where you can often spot a deer or two. It is close to the picturesque river Creuse, several lakes where you can swim or rent boats, pretty little towns, and good walking and cycling.

Guest access
The house is part of a larger property, my own home, but when let is completely self contained with its own entrance. Guests are welcome to use the garden area and covered terrace in front of the house.
If you have a young child or baby, please let me know. There is a cot which can be put in either bedroom, a stair gate, and a high chair available. I ask that you bring your own bedding for the cot.

Other things to note
The house has a Septic Tank and the drain is long and tortuous. It is important not to put anything such as sanitory towels/ baby wipes etc, or anything that could block the drains, into the toilet
In this difficult time of Covid, it is possibnle to be completely distanced from myself. I ask that you wear masks on arrival and while I greet you and during any other excahnges between us.
Between guests I clean all handles and switches, rails with a bleach or alcohol wipe. Surfaces and appliances are cleaned in the same way. Depending on the weather I also ventilate the house. I am also leaving longer periods between guests, normally 2-3 days minimum.

The hamlet is very peaceful and rural. It is rare to see any vehicle apart from a tractor pass the house! I can recommend several restaurants in the area; the nearest is 2 miles away. Horse-riding is available nearby, as are excellent water-sports facilities. Other attractions include the renowned Arboretum of the Sedelle, impressive castle ruins at Crozant and fascinating Gallo-Roman excavations and museum at Argenton-sur-Creuse.
The nearest bakery and a minisupermarket are 4-5 km away. More supermarkets and shops are in the historic town of La Souterraine (12km) which also has several restaurants and a Saturday morning market.
Further afield are the Wolves and Giant Maze at Gueret, Museum of Tapestry at Aubusson and the memorial village of Oradour-sur-Glane.

I have lived at La Charrette, Aubepierre since 2014. 2 years were spent restoring the old house, while I lived in 'the New House'. Once the main work was finished and I had moved into the old farm house, I made improvements to the New House and decorated to make welcoming guest accommodation for my family. But it was empty a lot of the time so.....wlecome to Airbnb! I find life here very full.. There is always work to do, and much to do in the area. I am involved with a number of associations and have made many friends both french and english.
