Nestled in the Oakland Hills, a first floor, one bedroom in-law unit of a 2-story cabin with acreage. Note: My family and I live upstairs, we shut down at about 10pm every night, a little later on the weekends but during the day we are in and out. If you are a super light sleeper or expect deafening silence this is not the best place to stay. Features a comfy pillow-top California King size bed, toilet and shower, kitchen with oven, microwave, coffee maker and full-size refrigerator. There is no stove top but there are 2 electric burners to boil water, fry eggs, etc. The unit is very kid friendly and even has toys neatly tucked away in the living room. The bed can sleep 2 adults and a small child. Note about the pillow top mattress: if you have a bad back and require an extra firm mattress this is not it. There is a couch in the living room that is made up of real mattresses and it sleeps 2 very comfortably. We have also added a flat screen tv with roku, dvd player and about 100 dvds to choose from. Plenty of parking next to my husband's collection of beloved cars,
wi-fi, huge deck for private use. Use of bbq and picnic tables. 5 minute drive to freeway, 20 minutes to san francisco, 10 minutes to downtown oakland, 15 minute drive to oakland airport. 10 minute drive to the lovely Montclair village for sunday farmer's market or delicious bagels at "House of Bagels"... you definitely need a car to stay here as public transportation is not that convenient to the house. Multiple locations to drive to BART (train) into san francisco are available within driving distance. Best part of this house...the surrounding trees and nature, very tranquil setting with trails to walk through on the property. The cottage is pet friendly for well-behaved pets, no-smoking please. Extra amenities available upon request (i.e., iron, blow dryer, etc.) The house is on a steep and rough road. drive up slowly to avoid too many bumps. if your car has a really low underbelly and you're concerned, this might not be the best place for you.
This house is in the woods....a nature lover's paradise! We are a super laid-back, flexible family with a love for animals and nature and seek the same in guests we welcome into our home. We will go out of our way to accommodate our guests. :)
Note: our minimum is 3 nights unless there are only 2 consecutive days available on my calendar. Feel free to message me and I can offer a special offer on a case by case basis.
no smoking in the house
Sophia and her husband made my partner and I feel very welcomed, but were also very considerate about giving us our private space. The cottage itself is beautiful - we loved waking up the first morning to a half-dozen fresh eggs from Sophia's chickens! The location is extremely convenient - just a minute to hop on the highway to visit our family in other parts of Oakland.
The only con was a very friendly, but excitable dog who was outside 24/7 and would bark quite loudly at night from its penned in area whenever we walked by. Other than that, it was a fantastic experience and we would definitely recommend it to others.
Sophia and her family were great hosts. The home was as pictured and very rustic + cute. There was plenty of room for me to spread out, and I'm sure the flat would also fit a couple with two small kids equally as well as one person. I slept really well here. Her home is super tucked away and safe even though it's right off the highway. It is very private- you are surrounded by trees. The driveway was steep and bumpy which I thought was great because it meant even more privacy and safety. Sophia was readily available for any needs or questions. She even brought me eggs from her chickens and citrus fruits from her orchard. They were delicious! Another great stay on Airbnb.
We enjoyed our stay in Sophia's lovely cabin.
It makes us feel warm, cozy and peaceful, as at our own place.
Sophia prepared cooking and living stuffs with considerations.
Thank you Sophia!
We enjoyed our stay at Sophia's unit very much. Super convenient, affordable, well appointed and kid-friendly. We especially liked the chickens, dogs and cats hanging around - felt like a little slice of country in the hectic bay area.
Sophia was a wonderful, warm host making us feel most welcome from the beginning. The description provided was accurate. The heaters work very well and kept us warm through a cold period. Our children especially enjoyed the array of animals on the property. The full sized king bed and doona were just like the ones my grandma used to have. You can really snuggle up and get a great nights sleep.
The listing was very accurate and the turn off was right off the freeway. Sophia was there to check us in and guide us up the hill. A cute puppy welcomed us.
My stay at the cabin in the woods has been a perfect recipe during a time of transition. Sophia and her amazing family have been warm and gracious and the apartment has delivered on expectations. I am extremely comfortable here.
