About This Listing
Nestled in the Oakland Hills, a first floor, one bedroom in-law unit of a 2-story cabin with acreage. Note: My family and I live upstairs, we shut down at about 10pm every night, a little later on the weekends but during the day we are in and out. If you are a super light sleeper or expect deafening silence this is not the best place to stay. Features a comfy pillow-top California King size bed, toilet and shower, kitchen with oven, microwave, coffee maker and full-size refrigerator. There is no stove top but there are 2 electric burners to boil water, fry eggs, etc. The unit is very kid friendly and even has toys neatly tucked away in the living room. The bed can sleep 2 adults and a small child. There is a couch in the living room that is made up of real mattresses and it sleeps 2 very comfortably. We have also added a flat screen tv with roku, dvd player and about 50 dvds to choose from. Plenty of parking, wi-fi, huge deck for private use. Use of bbq and picnic tables. 5 minute drive to freeway, 20 minutes to san francisco, 10 minutes to downtown oakland, 15 minute drive to oakland airport. 10 minute drive to the lovely Montclair village for sunday farmer's market or delicious bagels at "House of Bagels"... you definitely need a car to stay here as public transportation is not that convenient to the house. Multiple locations to drive to BART (train) into san francisco are available within driving distance. Best part of this house...the surrounding trees and nature, very tranquil setting with trails to walk through on the property. The cottage is pet friendly for well-behaved pets, no-smoking please. Extra amenities available upon request (i.e., iron, blow dryer, etc.) The house is on a steep and rough road. drive up slowly to avoid too many bumps. if your car has a really low underbelly and you're concerned, this might not be the best place for you.
This house is in the woods....a nature lover's paradise! We are a super laid-back, flexible family with a love for animals and nature and seek the same in guests we welcome into our home. We have just added two goats and a rooster to our little farm. We will go out of our way to accommodate our guests. :)
Note: our minimum is 3 nights unless there are only 2 consecutive days available on my calendar. Feel free to message me and I can offer a special offer on a case by case basis.
no smoking in the house
My family had a great time at Sophia's home. She and her family were very hospitable and made our first time traveling with our child great! The accommodations were nice and even better than that was the little extras. Sophia left a basket of toys for our kid to play with and children's books out to read. We also got to interact with all of the animals at the house- fun for the kid and the adults.
It was a little scary for us flatlanders to get up to the house the first time, but the location also made for great views and good hiking. The location was also perfect for visiting all the bay area. The house is conveniently located to the major freeways, so getting around was easy.
Such a sweet, cozy hideaway! We'd been there just a few minutes when my son said, "I feel really comfortable here!" It's hard to believe you're just a stone's throw from the city - this place really feels like you're deep in the woods. Sophia brought a basket of beautiful fresh eggs as we settled in. Our kids loved the sweet, friendly dogs and the occasional visiting cats. The twin beds were perfect for them, and the king size bed was really comfortable for our old bones. My only regret is that we were so busy with family events that it wasn't possible to hang out at the property more! Next time we'll get to meet the goats and dig in the sandbox. The hosts could not have been more kind and welcoming to our kids - there were toys and books waiting for them, and they didn't even blink at my daughter's LOUD three-year-old mood swings. :)
They're lovely. Everything was superb. I'd go back anytime. Very good value for money.
We have had a wonderful 10 day stay in this cosy, rustic cabin! Sophia and her family were very welcoming and hospitable, our 2 children especially enjoyed all the surroundings and the family pets. The cabin was exactly as described and we were able to spend time with our family in Oakland during the day and return to the cabin to relax and sleep well at night- the bed is very comfortable!!! We left the cabin for a 2 night stay in Yosemite and Sophia kindly washed all our sheets and towels which was above and beyond our expectations! Thanks for a great stay, you have a lovely family :)
The house was just like it shows in the pictures. Very quaint and cozy! Two of my friends any myself stayed there comfortably! It was very nice to have access to an oven, electric stove top, and a fridge! The place was clean and decorated cute! Would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the Oakland area.
This little cabin-like apartment was perfect for our family with two young children. The free-range chickens, friendly dogs and cats, besides the lovely host family were all there to welcome us, after the somewhat hidden rough country drive up to the house. Glad we were prepared with our SUV that was more than ready to handle to roads. We loved all the greenery around, giving off the most lovely smells. With perfect weather, we had no problems finding the place or driving to their home. The hosts were more than ready to answer any questions or try to help us out when we needed it. Their living room couch converted easily to sleeping beds for our kids. All the beds were super comfy. The kitchen is more than well equipped and the bathroom is well appointed, even with shampoo if you forgot to pack them (like we did). The kids enjoyed feeding the chickens and cuddling the dogs and cats. And after a long day out and about it was nice to head "home" for some downtime in from of the TV with all the great options of Hulu, Netflix, etc. The location was perfect for the wedding we were attending in Aukland. I would highly recommend flying into Aukland if it's direct for you (it wasn't for us, so we flew to SF). With nearby freeway access, we were only a few minutes away via the ferry into downtown SF was great too for our daily excursions, with free covered parking along validation at the ferry terminal. I would stay with them again if we were to go to SF or Aukland again.
