Interaction with Guests
We are happy to meet new people, hear about their lives, and share advice about what to do in New Haven. These conversations are typically over coffee in the morning or when guests arrive and settle in. But we also respect people's privacy if they wish to be left alone.
The neighborhood is beautiful, full of historic single-family houses with lovely gardens. We have a guide to the nearby homes available for interested guests.
Public transportation and the Yale Shuttle are within a couple blocks of our home. Yale and downtown New Haven about a mile away.
Guests can come and go during their stay. It is useful to know when guests will arrive at the house, so that we are sure to be available to let them in.
The listing was as pictured. No surprises except the loveliness of an old Victorian setting. It was on a lovely street as well. I am sure the hostess would have been interesting, given the furniture, pictures and books. Perhaps there will be another opportunity to meet.
We had a wonderful stay at the Ben-Atar's. The location is great for exploring Yale's campus (plus we felt very safe walking back to the house quite late at night), and Jo and her husband gave us several helpful recommendations for things to eat/do. We were out and about for most of our trip and only regret that we didn't have more time to spend relaxing in their beautiful home!
It was great to stay again with the Ben-Atars. They are so welcoming and make it easy to stay in their cozy home.
Jo was so welcoming, making sure I knew how to get to her house & where to park before I even arrived! Her son helped bring my bags up to the room, and she offered me tea to warm up from the cold. I never felt pressured to spend time with her, but I loved that she let me know she was around in case I had questions. She even let me borrow her iron!
Jo had the best suggestions for local restaurants and sight seeing, giving accurate reviews & descriptions for every place she mentioned. The house is close to lots of things! The room itself was lovely & very spacious, as well as private, especially aided by the fact that the bathroom is right outside the room. It was a great place to stay!
Jo and Doron were great hosts - super responsive before our visit and happy to give local recommendations. The walk from the house to the central area was totally comfortable. We also LOVED sharing techniques on making hummus. Green onion, who knew?
The house is as beautiful as the photos provided! The host is very nice and informative! We had a good time and a great memory in New Haven!

My husband and I have lived in New Haven for over 25 years. We stay here because we think it is a great little city, and we enjoy the local theater, art and community.
We travel abroad regularly, and enjoy having visitors to our home.
