Dan and Ashley go above and beyond

Guests describe Dan and Ashley as warm, attentive, and generous with their time, especially during farm tours.
Welcome! You are about to experience life on an active 4th-generation farm nestled in the rolling hills of Green County. Meet the cows, feed the pigs, befriend a horse, or just enjoy the relaxing and peaceful serenity of rural Wisconsin farm life. Located less than five miles from Monroe, this home away from home is close enough to all that Monroe & the surrounding community has to offer, but still has room to stretch your legs.

The space
This space is fully licensed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Privacy, space to relax, activities to participate in, room to run around - whatever it is you are looking for, it's here. The home has several reading nooks, plenty of space to play games or work on a puzzle, and several options for outdoor seating. Feel like having a cup of coffee while watching the sun come up and the countryside awaken? Relax on the cozy front porch. Feel like grabbing an afternoon glass of wine & local cheeses to watch the sun go down and the evening colors come alive? Take in the view alone, or spread out with a group on the spacious upper balcony - we'll even help you get the best cheese.

Sleeping arrangements include one master bedroom loft with one queen bed and one twin bed, and three additional bedrooms; with the two couches in the common area included, figure ample sleeping room for up to 12 guests.

Bathrooms include a main-level bathroom centrally located with toilet, shower/tub combo, and more than enough towels to go around, as well as a private bathroom with shower attached to the upper master bedroom loft.

Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen and dining room, with generous grocery and restaurant options less than a 10-minute drive into town. In fact, there are a couple restaurants that even deliver to the farm!

For nights in, enjoy a large family room with streamable TV/entertainment center. Our WiFi is excellent; stream what you want to watch, or borrow a DVD from our collection. The tile floor is heated for ultimate comfort, and a functional fireplace made from field stones we picked from the farm adds the ultimate touch. We'll even make sure there is firewood ready to go.

Outside there is plenty of room to run around. Go ahead, burn those calories - or stock up on them by roasting s'mores over an open fire underneath a starlit sky. Some of our nights are clear enough to see the Milky Way.

If outdoor barbecuing is more your thing, there is a grill plus accessories in the garage, ready to go. We'll even make sure there is plenty of gas and firewood on hand. While you're grilling, the kids can play with the toys in the garage, ride a bike, or enjoy the outdoor playset. If you are a larger group, no sweat - there is plenty of room for multiple cars.

Ready to interact? Schedule a farm tour, complete with the opportunity to meet the cows, share snacks with Prof. Paisley, Chonk, Porka & Dot, our resident Kunekune pigs (and garbage disposals!), and meet the resident donkeys, ponies, and horses. Speaking of horses.....

Horses have defined the human experience for thousands of years! Learn one-on-one how special and unique these incredible animals are, and the rejuvenating aspects of a horse friendship. We offer horse experiences for kids, teens, and adults for an extra fee. This includes a hands-on experience exploring the basics of horsemanship: We begin with grooming, tacking, and learning about the fundamentals of building a relationship with our equine friends. Each participant will experience the thrill of a one-on-one riding lesson, and will gain the experience and confidence to take the reins for a ride around our arena. All safety gear is provided and photos are welcome! No prior riding experience necessary.

Come and experience for yourself this integral, yet familiar slice of our local heritage! Hope to see you soon.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home, which offers space large enough for families or groups looking for a retreat.

Note: The basement is a completely separate living space that has been converted to an apartment, and the quiet and respectful tenants actually work on our farm! This apartment has its own private entrance and does not share any spaces with your main rental space. Please feel free to ask if you would like more clarification on this.

Other things to note
As this is a working farm with live animals, guests are encouraged to practice good hand-washing after any interaction with animals.

From the host

The Dairy is located approximately three miles outside of Monroe in the rolling hills of Green County. We are easily accessible; the farm is situated towards the end of a quiet country road, less than two miles off Highway 11/81 . If you're looking for an authentic reprieve at the doorstep of a truly wonderful community, we can't wait to have you here!

The Dairy is less than a ten-minute drive into the heart of Monroe where you will find a generous variety of unique shops, world-class restaurants, and delightful stores. We have some of the best beer and cheese around, with an ever-changing variety of live music. There are parks to explore, trails to hike or bike, and plenty of options for your soul, too - take in a yoga class, try reiki or book a massage, and definitely check out the Monroe Arts Center, which boasts an ever-changing variety of music, culture, art exhibits, and live performances. Catch a live show at the Monroe Theatre Guild, and tour the countryside - there are wineries, breweries, cheese factories, and more than enough local culture to fill an extended stay.

My work: Wegmueller Farm :-)
Speaks English and German
My roots are well-established on my family’s fourth generation Brown Swiss dairy farm in South Central Wisconsin. This is dairy agriculture as it should be – sustainable, grounded, and worldly. We work hard when we need to, take time to step back and enjoy life when possible, yet always retain the utmost respect for our animals, the land, and community. Come see what we are all about. I enjoy any conversation about why we do what we do. Oh, and I also enjoy aviation, scuba diving, motorcycling, travel, and a good bottle of scotch.
