About this listing
Very nice 2 bedroom apartment for 6 people (1 double bed, 2 single beds and 1 sofa bed) in the middle of Borne. Is a first floor with a private entrance from the street. There is wi-fi connection free. Charming apartment of 70 m2, high ceilings and 2 balconies. Next to the Picasso Museum, Ciutadella Park and the Mercat del Born, located in an environment of designer shops and trendy restaurants and bars. It is 10 minutes far away from las Ramblas and from the beach . Very well connected: Jaume I station (yellow line) is five minutes walking from the apartment.
To come from the airport, a taxi costs around 25 euros and it takes approximately 20 minutes. If you come by train (the train station is in Terminal 2) you have to get off the train at Estació de França (around 30 minutes). From there you have 5 minutes walking to the apartment (you will see the route in a picture). The train costs 2,85 euros. There is also a bus, called Aerobus, that goes from the airport (Terminal 1 and 2) to Plaça Catalunya. It costs 5,35 euros per person and it takes around 40 minutes. From Plaça Catalunya you can walk to the apartment, but if you are carrying luggage it is better to take the metro (yellow line) and get off at the first stop (Jaume I).
No está permitido hacer fiestas y se debe respetar el descanso de los vecinos.
No se aceptan animales de compañía.
No pueden reservar menores de 30 años.
Permitido fumar en los balcones.
Here's the list of up- and downsides from our point of view (family of 4), cons first, pros secondly, in no intentional order. When comparing with other reviews, please note: that was our first trip via Airbnb and we have stayed so far only in 4* or plus hotels or apartments.
[-1] immediate vicinity, i.e. the apartment's street: quite dim (even for El Born conditions), sometimes slightly smelly, with the flair of backyard workshops and storerooms. Small shops have been appearing recently, so it seems to turn slowly more inviting.
[-2] musty smell in the lower part of the narrow apartment's staircase (only) due to lack of ventilation opportunities. The first (upper) floor where the guests stay was not affected and ventilation was easy through 2 balcony doors facing opposite streets.
[-3] the rooms could use some renovation, e.g. the paint and the loose door handles, especially the one on the entrance door.
[-4] no sunlight reaches the rooms, quite dark, you have always to keep the lights on; there are plenty of lamps, though.
[-5] noise: thin walls, you can hear every word of people passing the street, especially the room facing the entrance street (fortunately, that happens only occasionally), the other room is more quiet. On our last day tourists moved into the rooms next to us, we could hear them quite loudly. But we were pretty tired after full day of sightseeing, so the noise did never deter us from falling asleep quite quickly.
[+1] clean rooms and bath
[+2] tastefully furnished (mostly Ikea).
[+3] quite comfortable space for 4 persons.
[+4] great location in Barcelona: could not be better for sightseeing, a lot of small places to eat and drink. We also tried ice cream from the somewhat cheaper of the 2 parlors in Carrer de la Princesa – very delicious, same applies to the excellent and refreshing (email hidden).
[+5] well equipped (including what is not listed in the advertisement: coffee machine, tableware, microwave oven, 2-burner gas stove, electric cattle, hair-dryer, fan, broom, mop, electric iron, ironing board, replacement bulbs, drying rack, plenty of clothes hooks). We 4 persons got 4 bath towels, 3 hand towels, and 1 for the bathroom floor, being fine for or 5 day's stay due to the washing machine.
[+6] with no bars/restaurants located directly in the apartment's street there were no permanent sources of noise.
[+7] some useful tourist guide books provided in the apartment, especially „Barcelona History And Mystery“ by George Semler, with splendid walks and recommendations for eating.
[+8] good quality mattresses.
For Airbnb newbies like me, I would recommend to clarify the exact arrival time and conditions including explicit confirmation from the host, and to have her/his phone number readily at hands on arrival. We had a little misunderstanding in this regard, so when we arrived we stood in front of locked doors. Thanks to Helena the issue was solved within a couple of minutes.
We where approaching Barcelona by car, and Helena arranged for us to be met at the apartment.
Barcelona is at best a "hard" city to navigate with a inaccurate GPS, but Helena talked us trough, and eventually we where led to a small, neutral door in the central part of Born.
Inside, stepping up from the street you find a neat and clean apartment with all the necessities you need ( you must bring your own clothes... ) to get started; toilet paper, soap, towels etc.
The way the apartment is organized make it roomy and suitable for our family (4), but two couples can also share the apartment and have privacy.
Out the door and out on the "Princessa" and to the left is a bakery and a small "supermarket" that will cover anything you need to have in the fridge. If you don't want to spend time inside, there are a number of nice restaurants within just outside the door .
We had tickets for the subway... but "everything" is within Scandinavian walking distance, so that was a waste of money.
There is a dutch-bike rental on 'Carrer dels Corders' less then 5 minutes walk (When on day trip to Sagrada Familia).
This apartment was perfect for us, thanks to our host for a wonderful stay and experience.
Charming apartment! Clean, convenient, well equipped – and not least, very well located. I can honestly say we felt at home right from the start, very much due to Helena being a great host – so helpful all the time, serving us with quick answers and all kinds of useful information during our stay.
Helena has been a very nice host. Everything was as described or better. The apartment is very clean, very functional and very comfortable.
We had originally booked another place (different host, of course) which ended up being a scam, and Helena was responsive enough to make us be able to move in on the next day.
The neighborhood is central and you will find plenty of great food (Cal Pep!!!) and great walks (Ciutadella, Barceloneta, El Born and Gotic) at your doorstep.
We were a family of 4 staying in Helena's apartment and found it to be very comfortable with ample space. It had everything we needed and is in a fantastic location, perfect for exploring Barcelona. Helena was welcoming and easy to communicate with. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Helena has been wonderful in arranging for her help to meet us on the morning of our arrival. Her apartment was in the midst of all that is happening in Barcelona which was a great perk.
