Horses and really - all animals and the wild outdoors - have been my passion for as long as I can remember. Add to that a family heritage of farming, gardening and horses, it is only natural that over the years my small garden turned to a homestead, to a small farm, to wanting to share that with others. Living here at Barakah Heritage Farm, continuing to develop the Oak Hill goat herd and the East West Equestrian Arts horse program, surrounded by amazing horses, cute goats, bunnies, birds and 2 fluffy dogs feels like a dream come true.
I'm an author, with The Energetic Goat and The Healing of Horses both published by Acres USA.
I've spent 45+ years with horses, including riding at the last Junior Cavalry in America and competing (not especially successfully but it was a lot of fun) in hunter and jumper events, and later studying conscious horsemanship.
I spent almost 20 years in the information technology field, working on government environmental projects while pursuing my love of animals and the outdoors on the side. That experience serves well now, as we bring the farm into the cutting-edge modern age of websites and video production and social media.
I spent 14 years developing the Oak Hill herd of Fainting Goats known for their hardiness and ability to thrive without chemicals, living off the land and helping to keep the farm plant ecosystem healthy and balanced.
In my spare time, I read and study, especially anything related to farms or hospitality (I'm a huge fan of Hotel Impossible). I love to build and tinker and design. I especially love to simply sit outdoors with the horses and dogs and soak up the peace of the farm.
My husband and the team also all have unique and interesting backgrounds that add to the strengths of Barakah Heritage Farm. (ask goat wrangler and tour guide Mickey about Musk Ox...)
As hosts, my husband and I and the farm team are thrilled to share this dream and experience with you. We love introducing people to the land and animals, sharing the projects and challenges and triumphs. You can ask questions, join one of our tours, stay and relax and unplug.
We hope to see you at the farm!
