Interaction with Guests
We are artists and work from home. We give guests their privacy and you choose how much interaction you want with us.
The Art Studio: We have a working pottery studio on site and instruction is available if you would like. Maureen is an excellent teacher and our home is filled with her art. She does pottery, painting, and charcoal drawings.
Our house is located on a private, dead end street.
Our location is in Olympia but feels very secluded. We are on the ocean bay and you will see hawks, eagles, herons, ducks, geese, and many song birds. We are surrounded by artists and trees. Please note: We do live in Olympia, a city and close to Highway 101.
The bus to downtown Olympia is within a mile from our home and we are happy to give you a ride to it when we are here. You can also use our bikes to get around. We are within an 8 minute car drive to downtown Olympia and 3-4 minute drive to Starbucks, pharmacy, grocery, movies, mall, and the gas station. Most people bring their car when coming to Olympia but we can accommodate your situation. Just message us.
We do not have shore line as our house sits 10 feet above the bay. Beach access is 3 minutes away by bike. Evergreen College has miles and miles of trails and biking. We are minutes from Tumwater falls (by car) and the west side of Olympia is the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Rita & Maureen's lovely B&B. Maureen was a gracious host. She made us feel very comfortable and welcome. The site is a waterside side surrounded by a deep woods. A very hobbit-like experience!! Plan to return some day. Visiting Maureen's ceramic studio was an enjoyable plus! Also enjoyed playing with the 3 little dogs and 1 gentle old cat. Thanks Maureen! See you again!
We had a wonderful stay before heading to the Olympic peninsula. Great pottery studio, comfortable room, cute pugs, and tasty breakfast in the morning. What more could you ask for? Also a pretty view on the sound.
Maureen was an exceptional host! The room and accommodations were exactly as described. The bed was insanely comfortable! She made us delicious fresh breakfast, shared stories as well as advice on the area, and even gave us a tour of her amazing pottery studio. We especially adored each of their pets: Finnbar, Francis, Seamus, and sweet Bones. What exceptionally well-behaved (and healthy!) animals! The home was very tidy with so much character. It was adorned with much of Maureen's sculptures and other works of art (truly a master at her skill); We had fun exploring and finding her creations throughout the home. The landscape was phenomenal, gardens and lush vegetation abound. Seeing the tide gradually rise and fall each day really makes you acknowledge the present moment and appreciate each and every day. We couldn't of asked for a better location, with just a short car ride to Downtown Olympia. I would gladly recommend this bnb to anyone looking for a charming and relaxing home away from home. We feel a bit spoiled that our first Airbnb experience was this great. It will certainly be tough to match. The only thing we regret (because of our limited schedule) was not taking a pottery class from Maureen. Also, we would of loved to meet Rita, she sounded wonderful! Next time :) Thanks for the great conversations, French Press coffee, and making our stay as welcoming & enjoyable as you did. ~ Christina & Matt
Great place with Maureen our awesome host. Nice view of an inlet and the dogs were real charmers. It has a homey family feel.
What a wonderful spot! Maureen, her very warm mother-in-law Lilly and their adorable pets made us feel very at home. (We missed Rita due to her being out of town.) This is a great spot just about 10 minutes from downtown Oly-but you'd never know it because it's so serene and quiet. The bed was cozy, the house was warm and artfully decorated, and the breakfasts were yummy. We even got a special peek at Maureen's pottery studio and oven-a real treat for us! We definitely hope to stay here again next time we're in town!
We stayed at this delightful B&B perfectly located so close to our Olympia family and to the beauty of the the Bay for five nights. The hosts, Rita and Maureen, and their family of pups and one cat (with one leg- don't feel sorry Mr. "Bones" is fully in charge of matters) quickly became new friends and ones we will look forward to visiting again.
The house is a charmer. It is located at the end of a wooded lane and is a favorite place for birds of all sorts. The tides change the view at the front which faces the water. The gardens (even in February!) were flowering and were lovely. Inside is tastefully and very comfortably decorated by these two artists and it was made clear at the start that this was our space to share. We were given a key and the lights were "left on" for us each evening. We enjoyed greatly our delicious and hearty breakfasts in the company of our hosts. Our bedroom and bath were spotless and comfortable facing the back of the home but with a great peek of the Bay out of a side window. We slept very well each night in our cozy bed and enjoyed our quiet environment.
An experience not to miss is a pottery class with Maureen. We signed our teenaged grand kids up for a two hour class which was an outstanding experience. One thing to consider with pottery (Maureen also does work with charcoal and design) is that a followup class after initial work is dried is needed.
We have stayed in B&Bs around the world and this home compares with the very best of them. Not only is it lovely but the hosts are extraordinary human beings and it was a privilege to get to know them over our stay.
We try to stay via Airbnb whenever we travel. Maureen and I are crafters and work from home. I am a canine herbalist and Maureen is a potter. We love meeting new people and just enjoying life. We have a peaceful home and look forward to sharing it.
Maureen and I travel to Ireland whenever we can, are avid readers, love Tolkien, adore the birds here on the property and love living on the ocean. Olympia is a perfect city as far as we are concerned and we will probably live here the rest of our lives. I love to cook and bake and making things in general is where we find peace.
My favorite place in the house is the corner desk in front of the double patio doors. Maureen's is her pottery studio.
We have three dogs - two sweet pugs and a mix. Bones is our 3-legged cat and he is magnificent.
