Interaction with Guests

Someone is typically always home. Our guests vary, but most are business travelers, transplants, and vacationers. Many are repeat guests, and are respectful, responsible, and friendly. We also have two very well-behaved kids living here, so please be kid-friendly.

The Neighborhood

Our house is located in a residential neighborhood of Honolulu (Palolo Valley). We are just outside the craziness of Waikiki but it's a hop, skip and jump away if you want to go there. We are conveniently located about a mile away from the H1 on-ramps and off-ramps. Our street crosses Waialae Avenue, which is home to many great eateries to satisfy any palate-- Town Restaurant, Big City Diner, Zippy's, Aloha Crepes, Azteca. Follow Waialae Ave. east for a few minutes and you'll be at Kahala Mall-- more eateries: The Counter, CPK, Chili's, Whole Foods, Starbucks/Jamba, etc. 3 supermarkets are also close.

Getting around

Renting a car or moped while here is highly recommended, as the house is tucked away in the back of a valley. If you have a moped/motorcycle/bicycle, there is safe and private off-street parking. If you have a car, there's street parking. (You'll need to walk up a steep driveway to the house, so be comfortable with doing that.) However if you do plan on using the bus as your main mode of transportation, there is a covered bus stop for "TheBus #9S" right across the street from the house.
Note: If you plan on staying longer than 30 days and would like affordable vehicle options, just ask.

  • Stephanie and Brendan were our family away from home this week. It was so nice to chill out and watch movies with them and the kids, to eat meals together, and to be able to use them as a resource for things to do around the island. The atmosphere in the home is so laid back and relaxed. I never felt like we had to hang out in our room if there were people around, like sometimes is the case in open homes.

The house is exactly as it looks in the pictures, and is very clean. Everyone was really respectful, and the house was pretty much quiet by 11:30 every night. We slept like babies.

I would definitely recommend anyone I knew heading to Oahu to stay with Stephanie and Brendan.

  • Stephanie and Brendan were awesome hosts. We had a great time in their well kept and clean house. Great place to interact with other guests, whereas your privacy is not under scrutiny.
They were awesome in giving us directions, assistance and great advice. At the same time, if u are in need of a surf, scuba gear or gps, they will share with you.
Our 2 year old son loved the place as well, as he had super companions in Gaby and Sal. Amazingly well behaved and friendly kids.
The location couldn't be better, as you are close to Waikiki, Whole Foods and other great shops. The hwy is 5 minutes away, so you can reach any corner of Oahu in less than 1 h.

We already miss the place !

  • Brandon was there waiting when I arrived and was very accommodating. The room was everything I could have asked for. They went out of their way to give me ideas to do on my short stay on the island. Brandon even made reservations for a set up at the beach for me. This will definitely be a place I want to stay when I come back.

  • A++ Steph and Brendan really make you feel at home in their beautiful house. The bedroom is spacious and super comfortable, and you have access to the kitchen (which is great), so you can cook at home. You really feel at home when staying here.
They were warm and welcoming, inviting us to join in with their Thanksgiving celebrations on Waikiki beach, and letting us ride to the Christmas parade with them on their electric scooters. Be sure to chat to them about your plans, being locals, they have heaps of helpful tips. Their kids are cute as buttons and really polite.
We miss our Hawai'ian Ohana already! Aloha

About
Aloha! We are Brendan and Stephanie, and we enjoy sharing our home, 'Ohana Nui with you, respectful travelers from around the world. Brendan works in construction and loves to "talk story" and surf. Stephanie works for the C&C of Honolulu, and loves to read and lounge on the beach when she's not working. We've lived in Honolulu for almost 10 years and have been hosting guests most of that time (we're originally from the Bay Area, CA). We keep our home smoke-free, drug-free, and pet free (except for a few goldfish). We also keep thing clean and tidy. We do not have a party house by any means, just a nice place to relax and make new friends. Additionally, we have two well-behaved, respectful kids (ages 6 and 7) who love meeting all the "uncles and aunties" in the house. The name of our home, 'Ohana Nui, means Big Family, which is what we aspire to be to our guests. We have enjoyed hosting many guests over the years at our beautiful 3 story home in the heart of Palolo Valley. We strive to provide all the comforts of home with quality and affordability and to provide a great experience with a local feel, just outside of Waikiki. Aloha!
