About this listing
My fiancé & I have a 3 bedroom condo and would love to host guests in one of our private rooms. Condo is located on the Hyde Park/Kenwood border and is renovated and near public transportation. We are 2 blocks from President Obama's house.
We live in a castle! No, really, we do!
Come stay in a Historic Landmark building!
Lots of luxurious touches in our condo: freshly-painted crown moulding, 2 bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs; 15-foot high ceilings, stainless steel kitchen appliances; eat in bar; in unit washer and dryer. The bed in the room is a full size.
We also have a wonderful 12 year old dog who is the friendliest dog ever!
The guest will have access to the entire condo except our bedroom and our private bathroom. The kitchen and living room are shared. Guests also share a bathroom with the guests who rent out the other room.
While the bedroom has a full-sized bed and a chaise lounger, we do not allow guests to use the chaise as a bed. So if you have 2 people booking and are looking to sleep separately, our place may not be for you. We appreciate our guests respecting our wishes to not sleep on the chaise. Thanks!
Interaction with Guests
We travel a lot, so we may or may not be around for your stay. We are a very friendly couple and can tell you all about the city and great places to see.
We live in a diverse gated community with a park right across the street! There is plenty of greenery in our area and free street parking.
We are located less than one mile walk to UChicago, CTA Green Line, and Metra.
Very easy to get to and from downtown Chicago.

Everything was perfect and exactly as described! The neighborhood/building was very easy to find and we had no trouble finding parking anytime of the day/night. We were able to get uber/lyft rides to and from with no trouble also! We were greeted upon arrival by Cristina, who was very gracious about my needing to change my arrival time last minute. I could not imagine having to figure out my day to day schedules based on random people that change their plans last minute so I truly appreciated her flexibility! We were also greeted by the sweetest sweetest dog named Thor who was such a love bug! He is quiet, gentle and keeps to himself (even though we would have loved him to come hang out with us anytime :) Their place is clean, organized, and has a very comfortable feeling, and we felt at home right away. We were shown our room, bathroom, and Cristina answered any questions we had and then we were on our way. Everything was perfect and exactly what we were hoping for. What a great place to stay for a Chicago trip!! Thank you again for sharing your home with us Cristina & Corey!
Cristina and Corey welcomed us into their home with open arms! The location was perfect (about 15-20 minutes from the touristy parts of Chicago such as Millennium Park) and there was always parking for us on the street even when we came home late at night. Their dog was adorable and so sweet and friendly and the bed was super comfortable!
5 star spot! Cristina and Corey were both very kind! No surprises here. Their listing says it all. Their old pup Thor was my favorite part of the trip haha. He's a sweet dog and just as kind as his owners. They were very responsive to my texts leading up to my stay and were very knowledged about the area and accommodating. Highly recommended.
We stayed with Cristina & Corey while looking for an apartment of our own in the same area. From the beginning, C & C were great. We needed to make a last-minute scheduling adjustment and they were totally gracious about working with us to modify our visit.
Their property is gorgeous and well located with plenty of street parking. The guest room was clean and comfortable and remarkably well-priced. Guests should be aware that they condo itself is behind the castle; not technically in it, but literally adjacent, part of the same property and very comfortable inside. This was our first time to rent just a room as opposed to a whole apartment, but Cristina & Corey made us feel welcome and secure. For the location & price, it's hard to imagine a better option and we would happily recommend the place to other visitors.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you found a great apartment. Just wanted to clarify that we actually are in the castle. The entrance that you use makes it feel like it is adjacent, but it is actually in fact in the castle. Guests that check out our other room get their own private entrance that takes them through the front part of the castle and into our unit. We wish there was some way all guests could use this entrance so everyone can experience walking into the front of the castle! Anywho, welcome to Chicago!
In a word: wow! What a delightful space in an upscale community, just a few blocks from President Obama's house. Christina and Corey offer a clean and very comfortable room in their condominium, with a welcome packet that details all you need to know to get around Chicago. Don't hesitate to stay here. You can stroll to good restaurants and shops, easily take public transit anywhere in town, or drive -- and we found driving to be remarkably easy in Chicago.
Great experience. Cristina responded on very short notice and she and Corey were very nice and accomodating. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable and made for a good night's sleep. Very nice neighborhood with some quality restaurants and bars a short drive away.
I did not see the hosts until day 2 of my 3 night booking, which was quite disconcerting to me, to be sleeping in someone's apartment who you don't know and have not seen or met. There is a significant 2 story climb up to the apartment (difficult when carrying a suitcase) and while the entry to the building is secure, the 'hallways' are open balconies and so I was a bit apprehensive going back at night to the apartment. The apartment building itself is behind the 'castle'. I was also uncomfortable with the fact that the pillows and bedding smelt stale and the apartment had a doggie odor. There was no bath towel provided and I used my little washcloth to dry. I would not re-use the place, but it will work for young college students. The hosts seemed nice enough, perhaps a trifle reserved. I would also have liked a latch on the inside of the bedroom door.
Hi Usha! I just wanted to clarify a few things for you. Since we both work and are very busy, we can't always be around the house for people. You and I had communicated on several occasions so I wish you would have communicated this earlier and we would have gladly tried to meet you sooner if possible and our schedule opened up. Since you'd get back late, we'd be in bed since we had to work the next day. Us being in and out is stated in our profile and has never been an issue for others. Also, the stairs has never been an issue for anyone else. The climb isn't more significant than any other 2 standard 2 story building. As you know, the hallways are indeed open balconies but the door to get up to the hallways required a door code. Any one that you saw in the balcony was a resident so sorry if they startled you. Chicago is a very diverse city and we appreciate the diversity and are sorry if it made you uncomfortable. The apartment building isn't behind the castle, we are located in the back of it. Had you used our other door you'd have the opportunity to go into the front of the castle's entrance. Our guests that check out the other room use the entrance that goes through the castle and have their own private entrance. Since we have a dog who lives here, there is of course going to be some type of smell of his. Our house is just as much his as it is ours. As far as the bedding and towel, I'm sorry that was your experience -- I could have easily switched them out had you just mentioned it to me or sent me a text.
I am very surprised to hear about all of your concerns, as none of our other guests have had these concerns (and we've had lots of guests!!). I recall you wanting to check out sooner than your booked date and were unhappy with the fact that we have a moderate policy that didn't allow you to get a full refund for that day. I am thinking you being upset about not being able to cancel that last day may have contributed to your dissatisfaction with your stay with us prior to you staying. We're sorry to hear about your experience, but please know your experience is reflective of the experience that our other guests have had.

About the Host, Cristina & Corey
I am a laid back, outgoing and adventurous graduate student with a severe case of wanderlust. He is a sweet, considerate, and super fun loving guy with a great sense of humor. We are both from the United States, but have traveled together to Brazil and Jamaica. On my own I have been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Peru, Argentina, and lived in Brazil for a while. On his own he's been to Barbados, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and a ton of places in Canada. Needless to say, we absolutely love to travel and really enjoy meeting other people in our home and on the road! =)
