The king fisher hut is a simple but cozy little cottage in our peaceful garden. It is an old Javanese farmer house from wood which we adapted for our guests.
It can host one, not too tall, person and has all you need for a simple retreat.
Balila guesthouse has 5 rooms in different locations.
All 5 rooms are lovely furnished, have hot water, fan and a private terrace looking into a green garden.
We provide also free drinking water in each room from our filtered water and you can refill your drinking bottle 24hrs.
Our king fisher cottage stands in the quiet back garden of our family house, where we live all the year.
It is an old Javanese farmer house out of wood which we adapted for our guests.
The hut has its own bathroom and a little terrace with a hammock looking out to the garden.
The room has a single bed (120cm/200cm), fan and hot water shower in a semi open bathroom.
It is a very cozy place in a peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy your own little space.
The wooden cottage is only for single person due to its small size and also more appropriate for smaller persons because of the height of the door and a beam inside.
Please be aware that we live with the nature here and that it can happen that a gecko or frog visits you!
The name comes from the bird kingfisher which you can see sometimes in our garden. Its feathers have a beautiful blue color, the same like we used in the cottage.
This listing is for king fisher hut only!
Please look and book separate for our 4 other rooms:
In the back garden, close to the wooden cottage, are 2 rooms (purple and orange) next to each other in a little house that is surrounded from a tropical garden. Both rooms have their own semi open bathrooms with hot showers.
'Hanuman Bungalow' is a little separated bungalow, with a little kitchen and a daybed on its terrace.
Moon room is attached to our family house but has also its own bathroom and terrace and the best wifi connection.
We serve healthy breakfast and try to be environment friendly as much as possible.
The next and biggest yoga center(the yoga barn) is only 7 min. walking distance away.
In our street are many international restaurants, galleries, mini markets, ATM s and art shops.
The famous 'ARMA Museum' is our direct neighbor and you can hear their daily dance performances from the garden. It can be quite loud but its only 1 hour and should not be missed in a Bali trip!
Our location is very close to the center but we are still surrounded from a tropical jungle with lots of birds, butterflies and frogs.
My husband is also a driver and tour guide and he can bring you around all Bali.
With our knowledge about this island we can help you to find the best places!
The family consist of the parents (from Austria and Bali), a little girl, 1 dog and 1 cat.
Please come and have look!

In front of our house is a parking space for motorbikes or a car

Made, the hosts husband is also a driver and tour guide and brings around our guests wherever they want.
We are located next to the ARMA museum and so you can listen every night to their dance performance for free! This is a cultural Must for Bali visitors. But don't worry, it last only about 1 hour and ends around 8.30pm.
we can provide you transports and tours and also airport pick ups.
smoking is allowed only on the terraces.
please refill your drinking bottles with our provided water so we all can reduce the plastic bottles on this island.
If you leave the room, please turn off the fan.
I will definitely miss staying in the kingfisher hut at Balila. The past month has been a wonderful experience! There are a few things you need to know about it. There is no soundproofing which means that you will hear all sounds of nature, of which there are many. For me this was a huge benefit. I found it very soothing. Another great thing is that it has excellent air flow. I never felt stuffy or too hot. The attached bathroom is spacious, and it has everything you need.
The hosts Made and Birgit made me feel very welcome. I definitley didn't feel like I was just another guest. The other great thing about staying at Balila (especially if you stay for more than a few weeks) is that you will meet many other interesting guests from around the world. For me this was a big plus.
I came to Ubud in order to spend (email hidden)-working space Hubud, which is very close. About 10 mins walking, or 3 mins by scooter. Yoga barn and other Ubud attractions are near as well.
I highly recommend this place! Happy travels :)
I absolutely adored my little home away from home. The Kingfisher hut surrounded by the little jungle was perfect for my escape and me time. It was tidied and clean almost everyday by Wayan, snug and cosy and pretty quiet (except for my natural morning alarm! The birds sing bright and early!) I loved the bathroom, always hot showers. And the internet worked awesomely!
Wayan made breakfast everyday - fresh fruit smoothie and toast with Birgit's own homemade jam!
The Yoga Barn and many great quality and affordable restaurants are just walking distance. And for the souls like me who are there for more of a quiet retreat, this place is far from the touristy area which is fantastic! However even if you need a little more action, it's only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the tourist attraction and shops.
I bumped in Made and Birgit almost everyday I was there :) I recommend a sit and chat whenever you get the chance. They really are a lovely, friendly and helpful family.
Wow! I have absolutely nothing else negative to say! The only thing that you will need to prepare is mosquito repellent but hey, that's the tropics for you! ;)
Yes greeted by lovely smiles of Wayan's - the 'real' boss.
Room is as advertised.
I stayed for a week and was suffering after 4 days from heat and too many mosquitoe bites which left ugly scars, sadly.
Clean bedroom and lovely open air bathroom. Made is a warm host, the free breakfast is great and the Balinese coffee is a treat. Be aware: though this a great place and the hosts will make you feel very welcome, the property is nestled in a very green, natural area so consider the gecko sounds and occasional creepy crawlies. Some may find this frustrating but it wasn't really a huge issue for me.
Thank you so much for your hospitality, Made.
Stay amongst nature just near the center of Ubud! Clean, cheap and very cooly designed bungalow by hosts. Mada and Birgit are great hosts that can offer tips and help
organize anything you might want to do. Enjoyed chatting with Mada to get some local perspective. Would definitely recommend to friends.
The place was quite nice, the room looks exactly like what is shown on the pictures and I love the overall interior. The staffs were also friendly and helpful. They serve delicious homemade jam for breakfast, and Mbok Ayu can give you nice massage for a reasonable price. The only downside is that it is a bit far from Central Ubud.
Cute, charming and clean. Some days they are cultural dances with loud music next door. It can be a good or a bad thing. For me it was ok.

we are a mixed family with Birgit, originally from Austria, Made her husband from Bali and Lila our beautiful daughter.
Birgit lives and loves in Bali already 11 years and enjoys every minute.
At the moment we have 1 dog, 1 cat and 4 chickens, but that can change all the time.
We are renting 5 rooms in and around our family house, which is surounded by a tropical jungle in the middle of Ubud.
Made is also offering transports and tours around Bali and will offer his big knowledge about Bali and its culture.
Wayan is our helper and the the 'real' boss in the house, because she prepares the breakfast, cleans the rooms and helps out wherever she can
Whatever you want to know about Bali ,we will try to give you the right answer.
Hope to see you soon in our little family compound!!!
