The space

Balila guesthouse has 5 rooms in different locations.
All 5 rooms are lovely furnished, have hot water, fan and a private terrace looking into a green garden.
We provide also free drinking water in each room from our filtered water and you can refill your drinking bottle 24hrs.
Our king fisher cottage stands in the quiet back garden of our family house, where we live all the year.
It is an old Javanese farmer house out of wood which we adapted for our guests.
The hut has its own bathroom and a little terrace with a hammock looking out to the garden.
The room has a single bed (120cm/200cm), fan and hot water shower in a semi open bathroom.
It is a very cozy place in a peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy your own little space.
The wooden cottage is only for single person due to its small size and also more appropriate for smaller persons because of the height of the door and a beam inside.
Please be aware that we live with the nature here and that it can happen that a gecko or frog visits you!
The name comes from the bird kingfisher which you can see sometimes in our garden. Its feathers have a beautiful blue color, the same like we used in the cottage.

This listing is for king fisher hut only!

Please look and book separate for our 4 other rooms:

In the back garden, close to the wooden cottage, are 2 rooms (purple and orange) next to each other in a little house that is surrounded from a tropical garden. Both rooms have their own semi open bathrooms with hot showers.
'Hanuman Bungalow' is a little separated bungalow, with a little kitchen and a daybed on its terrace.
Moon room is attached to our family house but has also its own bathroom and terrace and the best wifi connection.
We serve healthy breakfast and try to be environment friendly as much as possible.
The next and biggest yoga center(the yoga barn) is only 7 min. walking distance away.
In our street are many international restaurants, galleries, mini markets, ATM s and art shops.
The famous 'ARMA Museum' is our direct neighbor and you can hear their daily dance performances from the garden. It can be quite loud but its only 1 hour and should not be missed in a Bali trip!
Our location is very close to the center but we are still surrounded from a tropical jungle with lots of birds, butterflies and frogs.

My husband is also a driver and tour guide and he can bring you around all Bali.
With our knowledge about this island we can help you to find the best places!
The family consist of the parents (from Austria and Bali), a little girl, 1 dog and 1 cat.
Please come and have look!

Couldn't ask for a better stay. Such a tranquil cottage with an amazing garden view and bathroom. There were surprisingly no issues with bugs and I didn't get to meet the hosts but Wayan was absolutely amazing. Already looking forward to returning !

The Kingfisher hut is such a fun surprise in the middle of Ubud. The hut itself is charming and quaint - perfect for a few nights. There were times when the noise of the critters outside and bugs (mosquitoes mainly) inside kept me awake but the experience was well worth it. Birgit, her husband Made, and their housekeeper Wayan are incredibly sweet and lovely hosts. Wayan is a wonder woman - absolutely any request I had she was able to help me with. I miss her already! Staying in the Kingfisher hut made my trip to Ubud unforgettable.

I had originally booked to stay in the Kingfisher hut which looked charming. On the second night, however, a couple of rats were running around and making a fair amount of noise whilst I was trying to sleep. It may be because of the rainy season that they need a dry place to stay. Luckily, the Purple Room was available for me to stay in which was great. The room was clean and both Wayan and Birgit are friendly. The garden is stunning and you can lie in the hammock gazing out at the many wildlife buzzing around the place. The light breakfast was pleasant and served with a smile. Unfortunately there is a kitchen behind the garden where the workers start (rather chattily and loudly) at 7am each morning. Also, in front of the house there is a new construction being built which was noisy at times, as was the traffic from the road. The location is near many shops and restaurants which make staying there convenient. All in all it was a great stay!

My stay in the little cottage was lovely. A nice atmosphere, surrounded by nature. But if you're not a fan of that the loud frog noises at night and the gekos roaming around your bed could disturb you. All in all a nice little place if you're looking out to be out and about most of the time anyways. Birgit was very friendly and Wayan was very lovely as well and made delicious breakfast in the morning!

What a beautiful place to stay. So cute, so affordable, perfect location and even a hot shower. As other reviewers have mentioned you do get quite a few visits from different creatures. As long as you are okay with this you will love the kingfisher hut. Bring repellant! Mozzies are intense.

The hut is situated in a gorgeous garden area. The staff that are there to help with breakfast were wonderful! Big smiles and always eager and quick to help :) the breakfast was always fresh and yummy and hanging out in the hammock was mostly blissful ! The area is walking distance to plenty of delicious restaurants as well as shops , spas and laundry places. Unfortunately there was a lot of noise going on around the hut from around 7am in the morning. The mosquitoes and animals living in the walls and roof were also hard to handle. The host does provides mosquito repellent and a mosquito net. The sound of birds nesting in the roof made me feel at one with nature! However I would say that the price of the hut was perhaps a little high for the amount of nature I had the pleasure of being amongst ! The hut is open for animals to enter and one night my delicious coco butter soap bar was nibbled and clawed at! Over all the hut was fine, especially if it wasn't rainy season (which for me it was) in the end I asked to extend my stay a couple of night , after weighing up the option of sticking with it or lugging my suitcase some place else - it turned out they didn't have space , which was fine - however having said that, I probably wouldn't book again, unfortunately, mainly because of the hut being ever so slightly on the 'camping' side for me.

hi friends,
we are a mixed family with Birgit, originally from Austria, Made her husband from Bali and Lila our beautiful daughter.
Birgit lives and loves in Bali already 12 years and enjoys every minute.
At the moment we have 1 dog and 1 cat, but that can change all the time.
We are renting 5 rooms in and around our family house, which is surrounded by a tropical jungle in the middle of Ubud.
Made is also offering transports and tours around Bali and will offer his big knowledge about Bali and its culture.
Wayan is our helper and the the 'real' boss in the house, because she prepares the breakfast, cleans the rooms and helps out wherever she can
Whatever you want to know about Bali ,we will try to give you the right answer.
