The location of Manlio's apartment is perfect - Trastevere is an absolute dream of a neighbourhood. The apartment is clean and nice, but not quite as bright and lovely as pictured. Communication with Manlio could have been better - we didn't hear anything from him as the check in date approached, and it took longer than expected to get replies once we reached out. We were a bit disappointed not to receive the pizza everyone else mentioned! However, our short stay here was enjoyable.
He is make a warm welcome with pizza and a bottle of cold water. And then he came with us inside the appartment and he try to explain all the nearest locations and to be really honest the appartment is also perfect for couple.
Manlio was an excellent host. He welcomed us with pizza and a beer (both excellent!). The apartment was very clean and fully equiped. It is located in an excellent location in Trastevere with great restaurants nearby. It's my favourite area in Rome as it is much less touristy but only a short walk to all the major sights.
We were visiting Italy from the U.S. and this was our first AirBnB experience. My wife, I and two of our young kids stayed between July 18 and 20, 2015. I must confess that it did not start well in the sense that we had to wait about half an hour for Manlio to come and give us the keys to the apartment. We found someone near the apartment who offered to help us and indeed called Manlio from his own phone.
However, once Manlio was there, he was very welcoming and in fact helped us carry our luggage up to the apartment. He also invited us to his pizzeria in the evening, which we did.
Overall, the apartment was very good and well-maintained except the bath. The shower was very congested and leaky. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the apartment as it was close to all the fun and at the same time we did not hear any of the noise as the nightlife in Trastevere is known for.
Overall, we really enjoyed the stay. Manlio was great in giving us the directions of the places that we wanted to visit. Most importantly, he helped us get the taxi (it was a big deal for us as neither of us speak Italian) to the train station.
We absolutely loved staying at Manlio's apartment. It was exactly the type of intimate space we were hoping for to gain an authentic experience during our trip to Rome. Manlio was a very welcoming and gracious host. Our plane didn't arrive until very late, yet he made sure to greet us outside his front door (with a few delicious pastries) and, after talking us through all the features of the apartment, even took the time to take out a map and scribbled down detailed directions to the various sights and eateries around town, as well as pinpointed the public transportation routes we'd need to take to get there. He even offered to print out any online tickets we purchased -- if we forwarded our email confirmations to him -- since there wasn't a printer in the apartment. Very helpful indeed. Beyond that, he left us to enjoy the apartment and the city, and made sure he was available via cellphone should we need any help with anything.
Once, there was a blackout throughout Trastevere yet when the power returned, we noticed the next day that a few of the plugs in the bathroom weren't working (probably due to a fuse being tripped). We texted Manlio while we were out sightseeing about it and by the time we returned to the apartment, he'd stopped by to fix everything.
As for the neighborhood, it was absolutely a joy to experience. Trastevere is full of life and art and music and food. Around every corner, something new seems to pop up. Although festivities often spilled over into the wee hours of the morning, we never really experience that much noise inside the apartment unless we left the windows open. There are multiple restaurants and bars within walking distance of the apartment and, if walking isn't your preferred way to sightsee, there's a scooter and bike rental shop a few streets away.
We found the location of the apartment to be well placed. It's centrally-located, so it's quite easy to reach many of the most popular Roman sites. In fact, the only time we felt the need to hop on public transportation was to ride up to the Vatican City. For everything else, we either walked or biked.
I highly recommend staying in Trastevere during your visit to Rome and particularly recommend booking Manlio's apartment. It was one of the most enjoyable parts of our vacation.
Manlios apartment was great! Had lots of character and was in a great neighborhood. We would definitely recommend and stay there again.
Manlio was extremely welcoming , showing up with beer and pizza and walking us through the apartment and the local area. The apartment was as advertised and the photos with the apartment well located and comfortable
