Where you’ll be

Óbidos, Obidos, Portugal

The region is called the Silver Coast – Costa de Prata. The village of Sobral da Lagoa is part of the municipality of Obidos which is 50 minutes from Lisbon airport. In terms of activities, golf lovers will not be disappointed, a large number of golf courses make this region a golf paradise! The countryside around the village is ideal for long walks or bike rides on the surrounding hills, towards the sea and beaches.
The coasts are suitable for scuba diving, surfing and rowing.
More on the official Obidos website...

The village of Sobral da Lagoa is perched on the nearby mountain of the medieval city of Òbidos. It is a traditional, agricultural, quiet and not very touristy village. Originally, Sobral da Lagoa was a refuge for the spiritual communities of Òbidos. Its name means above the lagoon.
To the west the village overlooks the ocean and a nature reserve formed by two rivers, an ancient countryside of groves and woods and the vast body of water of the Lagoa de Óbidos. This campaign was named The Gardens of the Queen because it was part of the domain of the Royal City of Obidos.
The protected nature reserve is little known, not very accessible and not very busy. The lagoon and its unique vegetation offer a refuge for migratory birds. The fertile land of the valleys of the two rivers has favored quality market gardening since the Middle Ages. One hundred meters from the house is the only coffee shop in the village. Markets and quality supermarkets are minutes away... A complete guide to the house and the area will be sent to you upon booking.

Artists both, my wife and I live, work and travel a lot between Belgium, France and Portugal in particular. In summer we stay mainly in a hamlet of Mérigny, a village in the Anglin Valley located in the Parc Régional Naturel de La Brenne. The house, where we have our summer workshops, is an 18th century longhouse surrounded by a large walled, wooded and flowered garden. In 2018, we renovated a garden house that once housed the seasonal workers who harvested the vines around the property. We now host friends, artists, writers, but also transient travelers who yearn for a simple and beautiful life like ours in the Douce France that Charles Trenet sang and filmed Jacques Tati. Likewise for our house in Sobral da Lagoa which is located in the nature reserve of the Lagoa de Obidos in Portugal, and where we work a few months a year and which we share a few months a year with our friends.
