Your room has a king sized bed, a TV w/ Amazon Prime, Netflix & Hulu. Centrally located to everything here. Downtown Lakewood (10 minute walk); the Metropark (100 miles of bike path!!!). Downtown Cleveland 10 minute drive.
This is a great space with lovely morning light. The room itself is cozy with a king sized bed and has a small walk in closet and a dresser. It is on the 2nd floor and right next to the bathroom. There is a TV, wireless internet and Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. You can comfortably sleep 2 (or 3 if one of them is a little person) here. We have an 9 year old boy so we are family friendly. Our home is an art gallery on one side and we live on the other. Art is everywhere in our home. Its eclectic and unusual but most people love it and want to stay again and again. In addition, I have over 30 years experience cooking in restaurants all over the place and if you want to stay in and have me cook you a special dinner here I love to do that. The price fluctuates according to the menu.
Guests have access to everything except the other bedrooms and my china cabinet.
Interaction with Guests
We will be around the house and in the yard but wont interfere with your privacy unless you want to come outside and sit in the back yard; or on the front or back porch or lay in the hammock. Yes, we are here when our guests are here.
This is one of the best neighborhoods in the US. It is a super safe, walk friendly, bike friendly place. There are a ton of bars and restaurants in our little city and grocery shopping and antiquing are right around the corner. The YMCA is 2 blocks down with an indoor pool if you're a member or you can go to the outdoor Lakewood Pools for a daily rate. There are several play parks in the neighborhood as well as entrances to the Metroparks less than a mile from the house. If you are coming to Cleveland you have to experience the Metroparks. Its over 100 miles of bike path that winds through forests and parks all connected that circle the city and continue south down the Erie Canal. 45 minutes from here is Cedar Point and The Islands with wineries and beaches and boating. We also have boating right here down in the Rocky River Marina or at the Edgewater Yacht club. Visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, take in a sporting event at one of the arenas or visit a comedy club downtown and try your luck at the Horseshoe Casino. Tour the Cleveland Art Museum, or the Natural History Museum or take a tour on Lolly the Trolley. You can enjoy a dinner cruise on Lake Erie and then take in a show at Playhouse Square. There is a ton of fun things to do here!
You can walk, bike or taxi (Westlake Cab - 5$ anywhere in Lakewood). If you want to take the bus, it stops right outside of the store next to our house. Busses and RTA Transit can take you anywhere you want to go in the city and greater metropolitan area.
Other Things to Note
Parking is on street in front of the house but the road widens in front of our home so we've never had any issues with car damage. Plus, this is a really nice street and mostly people go slow around here. We have a dog but she has manners. The little one will bark when she first meets you but won't after that; we groom and bath her often and I vacuum and shampoo the carpets and furniture frequently so there is no "dog" smell in the house and there's not a lot of hair flying around either as I can't stand it.
No loud music or rough-housing; no drugs and no alcoholics (practicing). Smoking is outside only. Please leave common areas in the same shape they were in when you found them. Only our personal bedrooms and my china cabinet are off limits The rest of the house is yours to share. I love to host people and have had roommates my whole life. A lot of the people who have roomed with me are still my very close friends.
Even though I arrived well after midnight, I found Anitra up waiting for me and the door promptly opened when I knocked. We had enough conversation for us to get the measure of one another (she's great; superbly hospitable), and she showed me around, and made sure I got properly settled in before going to sleep herself.
In the morning, though she must have been as tired as I, she made a delicious breakfast, and gave me the low-down on driving conditions in Cleveland in the morning (this was on the tail-end of a nasty storm, so every word was useful).
Dinner was ready when I returned from my event, and she had fascinating stories to tell, and an excellent selection of films, not to mention a host of wonderful paintings.
The next day was as good as the first. This might be only my first experience with AirBnB, but I can't praise my stay here enough.
I'm sorry; I did not stay at Anitra's; my in-laws did. And they were at our home for breakfast and for the rest of the day. So I cannot really give a "fair" review, not being there myself. Anitra herself was extremely friendly with me on the phone and through email when we were setting up the dates and room.
Yikes! Sorry for the issues. I won't rent this particular room anymore. I was worried about the close proximity to the bathroom being an issue if there were anymore guests. It looks like I was right to worry.
The breakfast issue was my fault. I love to cook and am usually totally into it; however, I pinched a nerve in my back trying to get my father down the stairs and over to the VA for rehab the very day your parents arrived. I ended up being incapacitated (80%) bedridden and heavily medicated and in a lot of pain. I tried not to show it but I guess it affected my ability to manage the place way more than I thought. My full time helper called off for the entire week and my family came in from out of town some of whom I hadn't seen for 15 years! I guess I'm glad for the rating you gave me! I did manage to make breakfast for them once. The omelettes were diced fresh garlic, onions and american cheese with sausage links and my favorite multigrain crusty bread with rasberry pomegranate jam. And, my yummy coffee. They seemed to love it. They seemed to enjoy the entire stay right up until my relatives showed up. It actually could have been my aunt who disrupted your Mom in the bathroom but she never said anything about it and neither did your mom. Latch on Bathroom Now.
My son got "flashed" and I had the same sort of incident when I came up to let them know that coffee was ready. This was in no way an issue for our family as we are all artists and non judgmental about lifestyle issues as long as they aren't too crazy. I informed him that some other countries are more relaxed about nudity than the US and in fact we would be considered conservative by many standards. We have paintings of semi nude women hanging around the house so not a big deal. The only reason I mentioned it was because door closing was a bit optional...
My Mom never said anything about walking in on anyone. She was only there for one night so not sure what happened there. Adam and I used the bathroom other bathroom so I know it wasn't us. But, I will put a latch on the bathroom door so that can't happen again! I want my guests to feel secure in their privacy.
Your Dad getting locked out of the house was bad. I didn't even know that could happen. I am taking steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again to anyone else. I am putting in an intercom so that someone who is outside can contact someone inside in any of the rooms...and one specifically to my room. I would like to offer you their next stay for free up to 5 days WITH BREAKFAST. I realize they may not return for awhile but the offer is still good. Please accept my apology. We thought they were pretty great.
Anitra was the perfect host. Generous to a fault, great to talk to, and a kindred spirit. My room was clean and comfy and I loved the race horse paintings. Thanks for making me feel at home!
Anitra was a terrific host and a great artist. She is very open and welcoming, and we really felt at home. She did show us some of her art, and there is a lot of talent there; we will be able to say we knew her when! The room was just as advertised, and the bathroom only a couple steps away. We are just sorry we didn't spend more time.
Anitra was a great host. I came to Cleveland for the Gay Games with my dog Gaston and she made sure he was comfortable at all times. Anitra and Rodney were extremely kind and helpful: All day coffee, nice treats and great conversations made me feel home. They made their bicycles available to me to move around, drove me to the ice rink a couple of times and gave me a tour of the Rocky River Reservation, both just a few blocks from their home.
The home is gorgeous with very interesting art. The neighborhood is pretty and safe. It is walking distance to Downtown Lakewood with lots of good food options.
The room I stayed in was just recently open to guests and needed some improvements but they were quick to solve them. I felt very safe and fully experienced the midwestern hospitality at its best.
We absolutely loved our stay with Anitra! Driving through the neighborhood, we were charmed by the turn of the century craftsman homes and family-friendly vibe. Anitra's house and gallery are gorgeous and welcoming. Anitra and her husband provided such a kind welcome. We had been on the road for eight hours and we were starving. Anitra immediately offered to care for our dog (who enjoyed the company of Anitra's own pets). She urged us to go relax at a restaurant just down the street where we were able to have a delicious vegan dinner. Upon returning from dinner, we had a great talk with our hosts, then sunk into the most comfortable bed for an excellent night's sleep. In the morning the dogs plaued in the garden while we chatted with other guests and Anitra's family. This felt like home - don't miss out! Also, be sure to take Anitra up on her tour of the gallery and studio; that was a real highlight!

Hi my name is Anitra Handley-Boyt and my husband Rodney and I live in this great side by side home. We are both artists, as is my mother and our son, Adam. I have a political science degree from Northern Illinois University and a Law degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law. I am currently running the gallery and our home. I worked for 30 years in the restaurant business and am a pretty decent cook as well.
