About this listing
Our country cottage is nestled in the beautiful Kilkenny countryside yet only 10 minutes from Kilkenny city. Comfortably sleeps 5 with 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed. Ideal quiet country retreat or family break away.
Marsha our hostess went out of her way to make us feel welcome.
She baked fresh soda bread for our arrival and bought freshly made soup on the evening we arrived and warmly welcomed us to the area. The house was well supplied with those very necessary consumables so that we did not immediately need to run out of the house to make a coffee or have a quick snack after travelling for so long. The cottage has a very cosy feel and a good layout. Linen was well supplied. The location very secluded with great views of the Irish countryside from many window. Our stay was very refreshing. There are wonderful opportunities for leisurely walks in the countryside with a range of farm animals nearby. Kilkenny is a beautiful old town located close by. With its wonderful castle, restaurants and shops it is worth visiting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This is a beautiful cottage on a farm. Very private, helpful host, perfect to get away from it all.
Marsha was very sweet and welcoming. The cottage was very clean, warm and comfortable. Marsha went to the trouble of baking bread for us which was a really lovely touch! She made hummus and soup - both of which were waiting in the fridge for us when we arrived. A really impressive touch. All in all, it was a very positive experience. Kilkenny city is about 15 minutes away by car so having a car to get in and out of the city would be must. The donkeys and horses in the next door fields made the experience even more enjoyable! I would wholeheartedly recommend Carrigeen Cottage as a place to stay!
A wistful and quaint getaway that was both lovely and peaceful. The cottage exceeded all our expectations! Clean and furnished perfectly for our family of five. Comfortable beds, warm linens and a charming wood stove. Books and DVDs in the living room but the windows overlooking the grounds were our favorite thing to watch :) Marsha was lovely to talk to and greeted us with the most wonderful soup and bread. We toured locally but mostly enjoyed walking the farm and playing with the neighbor donkeys.
The house was exactly as advertised, and if anything, slightly undersold on how charming it is, and how well finished it is inside. It's clean, cosy, comfortable and has some lovely features. It's perfectly suited for a small/medium family. My two kids loved feeding the donkeys and running around the yard.
Marsha made us feel very welcome, despite having another serious priority to deal with. Logs for the fire, milk and bread for us and a handy guide to what to do nearby.
The house's setting is very picturesque, situated in rolling farmland. It can be hard to find, so make sure you keep your map, but that adds to the charm in my opinion.
In terms of proximity to Kilkenny, it's quite close. 10 minutes drive to one of Ireland's loveliest cities.
All-in-all, great stay, good house, wonderful host and we will return again when we want to go back to Kilkenny.
