A land rich in nature. A cozy hot spring on site. A homely welcoming environment.
Our Japanese inn boasts one of the country’s top three revitalising hot springs. Cleanse and moisturise your body and soul in the mind-blowing pure water. Get introduced to a traditional communal open hearth (Irori). It’s perfect for connecting with other people and experiencing the harmonious lifestyle of the residents. The 2 unique meals that are included in your stay express the quality, fresh local fare.

The space
Minshuku Tanabe is a traditional Japanese-inn located in Okuizumo town, Shimane.
The area has been listed as a Japanese heritage location for its long history of producing tamahagane (iron). Local people continue the traditions of the past and attempt to coexist their endeavors with nature.
The accommodation is surrounded by Hinoue Onsen, a glorious natural mountain river, Mt. Sentsu and a natural warm shallow pool. For nature lovers it’s a perfect place to explore.

From the outside you’ll feel like it’s a big mountain lodge but the first thing that strikes you when you enter is the spacious open hall and a large traditional Japanese hearth (Irori).
The open hall with hearth is a common area for all the guests. Come meet other visitors and connect with friends you haven’t met.
The bath and toilets are also shared.
The bedrooms are all Japanese-style with tatami mats. Each room can have 1 to 3 people.

Hinoue Onsen is one of Japan’s top three rejuvenating hot springs. We have both an inner bath and a scenic open-air bath with water that flows directly from Hinoue Onsen. Feel the pure, pristine water moisturise and cleanse your skin. Spend time relaxing in the open air bath or inside and let the warmth of the place infuse your soul.

Right at the doorstep is access to Mt. Sentsu (1143m), a perfect place for a short hike. From the top of Mt. Sentsu, you can enjoy spectacular views of other peaks in the region. In spring, dogtooth violet and in autumn marsh grass of Parnassus will be in bloom.

Your stay includes half board per night. Enjoy our dishes made from local seasonal ingredients, such as wild plants and river fish.

Wild boar hot pot is a delicacy in the region and Okuizumo Wagyu beef are optional choices for your meals. We will prepare a light Japanese set meal for breakfast. Come gather round the hearth and partake in these mouth watering dishes. The culture of Okuizumo is on full display.

Activities highlighting Japanese history, life culture, nature, food are waiting for you, so spend some time and really enjoy yourself.
