This custom built all wood (inside and out) log house (sleeps 4) sits on the original spring house foundation from the early 1800's. It has a large central stone fireplace, with a fuel burning fireplace insert. The open loft bedrooms have built in beds and are connected by a catwalk. The upstairs is open and leaves the cabin with a large spacious feeling. $25/pet/stay fee

The space
The upstairs is connected by a catwalk and is open to the downstairs. The beds are not private from the rest of the cabin.

There’s a deck off the back, overlooking the main house’s back yard and the neighboring horse fields. The yard, which belongs to the tenants of the main house, has a pig, geese and ducks, and dogs in it. The back deck in the mornings can’t be beat for sipping coffee and watching the horses as the dew burns off the fields.

Besides the bedrooms upstairs, the living room has a single twin sized sleeper chair. Separate linens are not provided for the sleeper chair so please bring your own.

Please note the cabin has steep stairs to the upstairs loft, which is open to below.

We have recently installed a ductless heat and AC unit. Due to several recent and serious fire related incidents we no longer permit wood fires in the fireplace. We have placed a fireplace insert that burns fuel cans that sound and smell like real fire (with real flames.). We will provide up to 3 cans for your stay and additional cans can be purchase *in advance* by letting us know early you'd like more. (We don't have staff on site and can't bring them to you mid-stay.). There is a fire pit in front of the cabin. We provide wood and a splitter but we do not provide fire starting material. You will need to bring your own paper, fat wood, kindling, matches etc. *Guests are explicitly prohibited from burning wood in the cabin.*

Guest access
The house is in the foot hills of the Maryland Mountains near world class golf resorts, ski resorts, shopping, antiquing, fantastic hiking, and some of the nation’s most important historic battlefields.

Not only is this the perfect house for a private romantic retreat, it is the perfect launching pad for a small family or group of friends to tour the nearby battlefields, to go for hikes along the AT or through the numerous state and federal parks in the area, or to enjoy some world class golf. The cabin is very near historic battlefields such as Antietam, Monocacy, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry.

Gorgeous historic towns are nearby, such as Boonsboro, Middletown, and Thurmont, and even downtown Frederick. Hiking trails as well as state and federal parks are everywhere. Greenbriar State Park is great for swimming in the lake and picnics with the family. Gambrill State Park, at five minutes away, can’t be beat for walking the dog with great vistas of the valley. There are at least five blazed trails of varying difficulty and length. If you like to ski, you’ll find Whitetail, Liberty, and Round Top within thirty minutes drive! For golf it will be tough to choose between Beaver Creek, Musket Ridge, or Maryland National. There are great spas in nearby Middletown or Boonsboro and you can’t beat the shopping at the Hagerstown Prime Outlets, about 15 minutes away.

Other things to note
Linens and pillows are not provided for the twin sized sleeper chair in the living room.

The stairs to the upstairs loft and sleeping area are quite steep.

The bathroom is on the lower level.

We do provide firewood for the fire pit but guests should bring their own fire starting materials. **No fires in the inside fireplace!*. We provide fuel cell inserts to 'burn' for a romantic night fire. They burn for 3 hours and can be burnt one at a time or all three at once. Guests who want more or longer 'fires' can buy extra cans from us in advance. Please notify us early so we can have them there for your arrival. We will not come to the cabin midstay to provide more.

The driveway is steep and we have no access to snow plowers (too remote) to clear it. In bad winter weather plan on parking at the top of the hill.

There is no wifi available in this area (except mobile hotspots and cell phones) but there is wifi at nearby locations such as The Main Cup in Middletown.

The fenced back yard is shared with other guests on the property, so you are welcome to use it although we ask that you clean up after your pets.

There is a $25/pet/stay fee. We will collect this separately. Please notify us if bringing your dogs. (We prefer not cats due to other guests potential cat allergies). If you bring pets and they typically get up on furniture and beds, please bring your own linens to cover and protect our furniture.

This is a rural area outside Frederick between Frederick and Boonsboro. Its near wonderful hiking and state parks as well as battlefields and skiing. There's great shopping at the Hagerstown outlets and fine dining in Frederick. (Try VOLT, chef owner Bryan Voltaggio was runner up on Bravo TV's Top Chef!)
