Colorful guest room in lush and peaceful garden setting with private patio. We are in walking distance from 32 wine tasting rooms & 3 vineyards (many more if you really like walking). This area is known for food, wine, cycling, & hiking. Ken is well-versed in local wines so he can point you in the right direction if you wish. This whole area is incredibly quiet at night, often with a brilliant cover of stars. The house itself is family-style: comfortable, colorful, and clean. The bathroom (rarely shared, but sometimes) is near your room, made of hand-made Mexican tiles. This is a safe area where people are neighborly. Local streets are country lanes with apple orchards open during the season, produce sold road-side, and horses, cows, llamas and mini-ponies make up the local livestock. There's often live music in and around town during weekends. There's a cozy overflow room available for additional family members, by request, for a separate charge. There are 3 good restaurants & a coffee shop in walking distance from the house. Massage and/or bike rentals may be scheduled in advance. Bring walking shoes and warm clothes as evenings tend to be cool. Both the house and the community are easy places to kick back and unplug.
Private patio, secure bike storage, off-street parking, refrigerator space, filtered water.
Interaction with Guests
It's easy to set up arrival times, and socializing varies depending on your situation at the moment and/or ours. Both Ken and I like people and enjoy sharing conversation over a glass of wine or cup of tea, and lots of really nice moments grow out of that. But sometimes it's just a quiet night for any number of reasons, and we all occupy the house doing our own thing, and that is fine too. Just kinda works out.
Clean, uncrowded, safe, nature all around, quiet, and plenty of fabulous wine and food.
Walk to Los Olivos in 7 minutes. Verizon is only reliable cell service in the Valley so you might want to look at the map b4 you come up the mountain.
Other Things to Note
We provide coffee, tea, and light snacks + bathrobes, filtered water, hair dryer, and shampoo.

Diane and Ken both made us feel right at home. They gave us privacy when we sought it and excellent conversation when we were in the mood for it. Our room was spotless, comfortable and very quiet. After spending the day bicycling on country roads, we walked into town for wine tasting and dinner. The room is exactly as depicted and is much quieter than we expected. Unexpectedly, we were treated to tadpoles in their front yard and lots of stars in spite of the full moon. We look forward to the day we can return!
My girlfriend and I had the perfect experience at Diane's home. From the second we pulled in to Diane's driveway, to wine and fresh baked bread with her family, and a wonderful send-off after our two-day stay, and everything in between. We were walking distance to the center of Los Olivos, a great retreat for us from the stress of LA.
The bedroom we stayed in was private, huge comfy bed, and we were invited to brunch and dine with Diane's family if we wanted to. I can't recommend this home enough. The next time I'm in the Los Olivos, St Ynez area I will not hesitate to stay here again!
I'm not sure what was my favorite...the bright bird bedspread or the mini bamboo forest or the front yard pond or the walk down the country road. Oh and then there is the private patio! Quiet, clean, gracious...the home, the ambiance and the hosts, Diane and Ken!
Diane and Ken were very welcoming, gracious and communicative hosts. In addition to providing me with helpful tips on local attractions and wineries to visit, everything in the room was well prepared upon arrival. The private bedroom was clean, secluded and came with thoughtful additions like a coffee maker, refreshments and snacks. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to town, where one can go for a multitude of tasting rooms. Overall, couldn't have asked for a better first AirBnb experience!
Our hosts, Diane and Ken were just great. They made sure we wanted for nothing and had put a lot of effort into making our time there very special. Treats in our room, a lovely very private patio of our own while at the same time making us feel very welcome in their lovely home. Our room was nicely set off by itself with a very comfortable bed, our own bathroom and everything we needed. They also gave us lots of good suggestions about places to eat, drink or shop, our expectations were exceeded!
Ken & Diane's home provided us with a most comfortable atmosphere and lodging, making us feel like friends & family. The location was perfect for walking to wine tastings, dining, and shopping in Los Olivos. We also benefited from their tips on scenic drives, dining, and where to taste wine. Exceeded our expectations as first time Airbnb guests!
Diane made us very comfortable with a warm welcome and nice touches like fresh water in our room. The neighborhood is quiet and quaint - a short walk to some nice tastings and food.

Ken and I have created a home that is a reflection of our shared interest in nature, travel, and the arts. We've lived in LO for many years, raised our now-adult-children here, and currently share our home with a beloved house-mate. We don't subscribe to tv, but we watch The Daily Show and have liked The Tudors, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Downton and anything at all by David Attenborough. We're classic NPR fans...everything from Car Talk to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and all the news and music in between. We both read a lot, and magazines these days are The New Yorker, Nature, Scientific American, National Geographic, The Funny Times, and occasionally The Atlantic Monthly, Vanity Fair, and The Economist. I read People whenever I get my haircut ( but don't tell anyone). We both like T.C. Boyle and I'm a big Dickens fan. I think our home reflects our way of living/travelling; it's relaxed, but runs pretty well...comfortable, but not posh. We love to hang out with friends and family, especially outdoors in the warmer weather, sharing a good meal and bottle of wine. Hiking is our favorite getaway, Mount Gay Rum our vice of choice. Ken's really into frogs and I'm into spoken word performance. Our family motto is "It'll be fine."
