Beautiful European Forest Home

House - Private room · Thornbill Glen, Nambucca Heads, NSW 2448, Australia

We have a spacious 5 bedroom solar powered home nestled against the enchanting Australian forest. Relax on our expansive deck and see the king parrots, scaly breasted lorikeets, rosellas and even the occasional wallaby!

The Space

Here you can enjoy breakfast or simply a quiet cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening while you listen to the frog chorus.

The home is Scandinavian themed and adorned in over 30 of our Finnish mother's tapestries. We are surrounded by a melody of parrots, kookaburras, cicadas, black cockatoos, rainbow lorrikeets and green tree frogs. We are always available to answer any questions you may have or to give directions. We are happy for you to use the kitchen if you want to cook your own meals. The supermarket is only a few minutes drive away.

We don't have a TV so you need to be able to happily enjoy your own company. Most guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity and just chilling out on the veranda or going to the beach.

We are 15 minutes walk to some of Australia's most beautiful beaches that are matched only by the magical sunsets that you get in this part of the world. There is a wonderful shaded forest walk to the beach. We see dolphins at nearby Shelly beach in the early mornings and whales during the whale season.

The house is 10 minutes walk from the local Nambucca Heads shops and 2 minutes drive to the beach. We are 30 minutes drive from the very stylish Bellingen and enjoy going there regularly for a bit of cafe-life. Nambucca is close to the freeway so it's a small detour if you are commuting and need a place to stay for the evening. We have a sub tropical climate and really great weather for most of the year.

We provide fresh fruit, bread and eggs for all of the guests as well as tea and coffee. This room has a private bathroom, a large walk in wardrobe and a sliding glass door out onto the balcony overlooking the garden. There is plenty of off street parking for at least 4 cars.

Our neighbour's cute little dog Gypsy likes to visit most days!

My son Jesse and his partner Katie did AirBnb from our house a little over a year ago from which they got their own great reviews. Now Michelle is your host as due to my mother's illness in Finland I have gone back there for an indefinite period.

Guest Access

Michelle is your super friendly host. She is a qualified massage therapist and nail artist as well as Social Skills teacher. Michelle lives here with her 10 year old daughter Mahalia and her 2 cute dogs. Michelle is happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.

The Neighborhood

Neighbours here are very quiet and we are surrounded by natural bush reserve and state forest. We are in a very tranquil and private setting. You will find your stay here relaxing and peaceful.

Getting around

We have plenty of parking in front of the double garage for about 6 cars. You need to make your own way from Coffs Harbour airport to here but if you need picking up from Nambucca Heads train station that can be arranged if you let Michelle know when you book.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Michelle & Iris' home is absolutely beautiful. I stayed in an en suite room with direct access to a huge balcony that opens out on to the gardens - the location really is breathtaking. The house has a well equipped kitchen and breakfast supplies, and I loved all of the interesting artwork on the walls.

Michelle was a fantastic host, she did everything she could to accommodate me and my dog Ollie, and I very much enjoyed chatting with her and her daughter. My only regret was that I only stayed one night!

  • The house is amazing, as are the hosts (though we just had a short but nice chat with Iris via (website hidden))! Michelle took care of anything and made us feel like home! Special thanks for the delicious cake and the experience of a original English teatime!
Thumbs up for this accommodation and the hosts!

  • Katie and Jesse were wonderful hosts - gracious and welcoming and even gave me great tips on places to eat and see around the area. They (and their awesome dogs) made me feel like I'd come home rather than just stopped by.
The house was beautiful and the room was spotless and cosy-- just as pictured.

  • We had a very relaxing time at Katie and Jesse's place. Their place was tidy, quiet (and warm in winter!) and very well located (surrounded with beautiful trees, lots of singing birds). Kate especially friendly with my daughter.
Kate and Jesse happily shared their kitchen with us and offered their time and tips for things to do around.

    July 2012
  • Warm welcome, beautiful location with the deck overlooking the forest. Great coffee in the morning and the freedom to use the kitchen with eggs and bread, milk, tea and coffee supplied. Jesse and Katie are friendly, helpful and thoughtful hosts. Nambucc Head is surrounded by river view parks, beaches and a small town. Highly recommended!

  • An amazing location and lovely tranquil space, the perfect resting place for us as travellers en route between Sydney & Ballina. Thank you.

    May 2012
  • Katie and Jesse are very nice and helpful. Their house is at the edge of the rain forest and has a beautiful terrace. We also liked the room, it was very clean and Katie also put us fresh flowers!

    April 2012
  • Beautiful home. We saw a Tawny Frogmouth while we were staying there.

    March 2012
  • We had a lovely relaxed time at Katie and Jesse's place. The dogs were adorable. The room was exactly as shown in the pictures. Bellingen was a lovely place to visit, just a shame that we choose to visit when there was torrential rain.

    January 2012
  • Katie and Jesse’s place is a dream, the house is private and spacious. Flowers and fruit in the rooms added a special touch.

The kitchen was a great place to share ideas and stories and the dogs where great company.
