About this listing
Our guest house is a two bedroom, roomy fully air conditioned home and sits in the heart of the historic Sam Hughes Neighborhood just 1 block from the U of A. Our guest house has high vaulted ceilings, unique and comfortable furnishings and is able to accommodate 4 adults or a family quite nicely. I can place a small pak & play in a bedroom for a fifth person, but 5 normal size people doesn't work unless you really want to be close. We have a secured gated courtyard for bike storage, two parking spaces, full size kitchen with all needed appliances including microwave, plate settings, pots/pans and coffee maker. The living space has bar seating, a flat screen TV, Direct TV, WiFi , ceiling fans and a love seat and two chairs. We have provided a washer,dryer,iron/board & blow dryer for your convenience and the courtyard features a patio grill for sunset BBQ's. One bedroom is furnished with two comfy twin beds, luxury sheets and plenty of closet space. The tastefully decorated second bedroom has a brand new beauty rest king bed with luxury bedding and a large closet. The full size bathroom has both a shower and tub for your convenience along with luxurious towels and hand-made soaps to make your stay extra special! The U of A is just one block away, with the University Medical Center across the street. A Whole foods Market and a Safeway are within a mile, along with Reid Park (Tucson's largest park with two 18-hole public golf courses, Reid Park Zoo, Randolph Tennis Complex, Aquatic Center, and a 6 mile tree lined bike/walking path). We sit 3 blocks from the lush and very active Himmel Park and just a short walk to our favorite local Rincon Market/Deli and Bob Dobb's Pub on game days. The street car "link" route is 1 block from our door at Speedway and Campbell and an easy route to the vintage and unique shops of Fourth Ave., University Ave., museums, wonderful eateries, theaters and more. I can assist you with any directions and reservations if needed. Please understand that weekly and monthly pricing is for all months except the Gem Show Jan. 19 thru Feb. 18. This rate is $850 for a week and $3000 for the 31 days, which is about $95 a night for a two bedroom house/peak time. The nightly rate is $150 during Gem Show. I look forward to hosting you.

Interaction with Guests
I or my assistant, Terry like to check in our guest and give them a quick tour & layout of the house. Answer any questions about restaurants , markets & neighborhood. I'll touch base by txt within a day or two, mostly make myself available if questions, but guest privacy is very important to me. I want my guest to feel at home in my home.
This is a historical neighborhood that most homes were built in the 1920s. Very bike friendly, walking tree lined streets & across the street from the U of A. I provide two private parking spaces in the alley. Street parking requires a pass.
House sits one block from city bus line. Also, we are excited to be located 1 block from the "Link" , which is our new street car that takes guest downtown for $4 a day or $1.50 each way.
Other Things to Note
The Desert Poppy guesthouse is smoke free inside. The patio is available with the doors shut and proper disposal of the materials. No drugs on property.
We are so glad you have chosen the Desert Poppy Inn/Guest House. We loved raising our children in Sam Hughes and know you will get to appreciate the local hot spots, markets, U of A events, and ultimate charm of our sweet neighborhood. We ask that you make yourself at home, enjoy cooking a meal for your family and treat our little get-away as "your" vacation home in the desert. I do have two bikes available for you to cruz the neighborhood, along with a Pack N Play if you bring your little one. We do consider children people, so kids over the age of one years old are guest. There are beds for four individuals, so if there are more than four in your party, a $25 fee per night will be added. A couple with a small child is considered 3 guest. Sorry that we can not accommodate pets, and it is a smoke free/ E smoke free home. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need reservations to a restaurant or directions to a local hidden trail.
Love the place. Nancy and Terry were great. We were back to Tucson for a Wildcat game and wanted to be close to the campus. Desert Poppy was perfect -- such a beautiful space. Thanks for the coffee cake, the soaps and the bikes! And, Nancy, thanks for your service as a firefighter (my dad is LAFD, retired).
This was my second time staying at Desert Poppy Guest House. It couldn't be any sweeter. I highly recommend it for anyone coming to Tucson to visit kids at UofA. Perfect location. It's private, serene and has super amenities - kitchen for cooking, gas grill, bikes, washer/dryer, handmade soaps, honor wine bar, Keurig coffee, beautiful patio. There is a reason this place is always booked.
My stay at Nancy's home was so much better then expected, and I expected it to be good from the reviews and pictures. This home feels like "home". I have nothing negative to say. We will definitely be back!
Nancy is a great hostess and The Desert Poppy is everything a family of four could ask for. It was the perfect place for my family. I just wished we could have stayed a few more nights. Clean, comfortable, artful decor, and many special and personal touches like banana nut bread, Arizona green tea in fridge, hand made soaps. Nancy also gave us great info on local favorites like the RoadHouse Theater and Bobo's for a home-cooked breakfast with larger than life (plate) banana pancakes. Most gracious hostess and fell in love with The Desert Poppy. Hope to be able to visit again!
Nancy's assistant, Terry, welcomed us into the unit and was extremely sweet and made us feel right at home! The unit is just as advertised and had some beautiful fixtures and decor. Would stay here again!
Nancy greeted us with a warm smile we immediately felt so welcomed. Our stay was perfect, we were all so comfortable. Nancy's homemade bread was delicious. We look forward to coming back soon.
About the Host, Nancy
My name is Nancy Avery and I have lived and worked in the old Pueblo for more that twenty years. My husband Chris and I are raising two awesome children, one 21 & one 18, a golden retriever and any starving college student that ends up at the dinner table. We are avid hikers, trail runners and river runners. I just retired after 20 years from the Tucson Fire Department as a first responder captain on Engine 13 and loved the opportunity to serve my community. A life of service has always been my passion and I look forward to meeting you, taking care of you and your family and hope that you will thoroughly enjoy our beautiful Desert Poppy Inn/Guest house. It's a place I would like you to call home while you are exploring, racing, running or hiking through our great city. Email me if you have any questions.
