My fiance and I were searching for the perfect backdrop for our outdoor wedding when we found this place. It had the hills, the boulders, and a great cabin for us to enjoy on our wedding weekend.
We spent months thinking about the set up and atmosphere for our big day. When that day finally came, it brought 60 mph winds and freezing temperatures with it.
Fortunately, our hosts were very understanding and accommodating. They allowed us to move our outdoor wedding into that cabin. It was standing room only, but our guests were happy and impressed with the venue we had chosen.
This place was described as one of three ways by almost every guest:
3. Perfect for you two
It really turned out to be the best hastily thrown together indoor wedding that we could have hoped for. The scenery, the cabin, and our exceedingly caring and attentive hosts left us feeling like we would have to return someday.
If you're looking for a rustic, quiet stay near Joshua Tree or just a nice weekend away from a busy life, then we couldn't recommend this place enough.
Had an incredible experience at the Rockhouse! Cheryl and Nick were extremely nice and welcoming, and had a lot to do with our enjoyable stay. The home is spacious and refreshing, with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating space. Despite sharing a lot with the host we did not feel that our stay was any less private. Just note that inside the home is very communal, so don't expect much personal privacy with large groups! We slept 7 very easily, and could have comfortably fit more. Would recommend this listing to anyone looking for a fun comforting desert retreat. Thanks again!!
I cannot say enough great things about this place and the hosts. I have stayed here 3 times now and we're already planning our next trip back. The house is wonderful, fully stocked with everything you need on a beautiful property, and of course the gorgeous rock tub in the star of the show. Can't wait to go back!
We had a very fun Easter weekend at the Rock House! Cheryl and Nick were great hosts! The house is cute, cozy, and just as described. You will have fun on the property itself, and you'll be close to lots of outdoor fun, too. Enjoy!
We spent a lovely 4 days at the Rock House. The house was clean, well laid out, and comfortable. The separate game room was great with our kids, and the hot tub was beautiful.
Thanks for a great stay!
Staying at Rockhouse was one of our favorite experiences in the CA desert! My family fell in love with the house and grounds and Cheryl was a terrific hostess. She gave us our privacy while making friendly welcoming conversation when we did see one another. She has great stories to tell! We have been to Palm Springs many times as well as camping in Joshua Tree and our stay at Rockhouse tops our list for fun and relaxation for a family of 4 with older kids. The house is beautiful - rustic yet modern - and has more appeal than even the pictures suggest. It's magical up in the lofts! Our 5 month old puppy Emmett was also welcomed and had a great time romping the extensive grounds with my daughter. My daughters had lots of fun in the game room and tossing horseshoes. We are also big hottubbers and asked to use it at many different times and were always accommodated.
The neighborhood is also fun to explore and Pioneertown is close by for dinner at Pappy and Harriets - just make sure you reserve over a week in advance! Another great family restaurant is Las Palmas which is a short drive into town. We will definitely return again in the future. If you want a single or multiple family getaway in the Yucca Valley, look no farther than Rockhouse!
Fantastic vacation retreat! From the minute we arrived, we felt welcomed by Sheryl (Rebecca's mom) and her son Nick. They both went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful experience. This place is even BETTER than the pictures show and it definitely exceeded all expectations. The location is also perfect... private, peaceful and serene.
The house is stocked with everything you could possibly need (we had a contest to try and find something they were missing, but had to admit they had it all).
We fell in love with this place and will definitely be returning for another stay. As soon as you walk in the door, you feel relaxed and at home. I give this place, (along with our hosts, Sheryl and Nick), my highest recommendation. Unfortunately, we never got to meet Rebecca, the host who is listed for this property, but she must be a wonderful person, just judging by her other family members.
Stay here - You'll love it.

Welcome! It's me, Rebecca B and I LOVE the desert and the tropics. Go figure.
We have 2 homes available for rent on AirBnB. Our year-round rental is RockHouse Retreat and has become quite the popular desert pad. Here's a little history. So, I found this stunning "compound" for sale near Joshua Tree at the end of 2009 and was able to use my amazing powers of persuasion to convince my mother and brother to purchase it sight unseen and leave New York to relocate to the wonderland of the high desert.
OK...so, MAYBE my powers of persuasion had NOTHING AT ALL to do with it. My mother has always been obsessed with the desert and was truly the one who nurtured my connection and passion for this land. You see, she's a rock hound and has a crazy cool connection and fascination with the history of the West. My brother can't get enough of the endless off-roading and hiking adventures.
Originially RockHouse was intended as a desert escape for the family, but at the very end of 2011 we decided to share the joys of the property and land and made it available through AirBnB. And so glad we did!!! We've met some really cool folks (and their pets!) who share a love for adventure and the outdoors.
So I present to you my mother and brother, Cheryl and Nick, who are now the fantastically chill hosts for your stay at RockHouse. They live in a completely separate home on the same 2.5+ acre property and keep out of your hair, unless you need them.
Our other AirBnB rental in San Diego, is our primary residence and is only available for one month of the summer and one week after Christmas. It's 5 blocks to the beach in the groovy and laid back community of Point Loma / Ocean Beach. Super central and close to all the great attractions San Diego has to offer.
A little about me. I live in San Diego, but spend A LOT of time up at RockHouse to decompress, recharge and connect with my little family and friends. I am a social entrepreneur, digital creator, student of life, adventurous, kind 'n quirky mama, wife & friend. Traveling renews and energizes me. A BIG fan of the desert (surprise!) and the tropics - go figure. We spend a month every year on the north shore of Kauai....so hit me up if you have any recommendations, connections, etc.
I'm a lover of Fair Trade and FIRST Robotics. Meditation, yoga and running nurtures my body and soul and calms the monkeys in my mind. Exploring and learning about photography is my guilty pleasure.
