About this listing
If Proust lived in Brooklyn....A sunny and quiet, classically styled apartment. Access to bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. This warm, family-oriented neighborhood is a bit rough on the eyes at first, but filled with hidden gems. Beautiful park nearby!
Hi there! Come stay in a spacious, sunny, warm one bedroom apartment. You will have a private room. There is also a huge closet in the hallway, in case you have a lot of stuff. Full-length tub, eat-in kitchen, huge living room, roof access, original hardwood floors, great sky views, wi-fi along with sheets and towels are all included.
Please note that the stove doesn't work, but that there is an electric skillet that you can make just about anything with. You might have to see it to imagine it, but it works very well.
Located off the Winthrop stop on the 2 or 5 trains which are 1 block away. Or you can walk a few more blocks to the Q train at the Parkside stop. The B44 stops just outside the building. Super close to the amazing Prospect Park and Botanical Gardens.
There's a shiny new laundromat right across the street as well as a Key Food 2 blocks to your left and a C-Town 1 block to your right. There's also a huge 99cent store where you can get just about anything under the sun right next door. Also nearby is the awesome Jamaican buffet "New Soldiers", which has the best Jamaican food I've ever had in NYC. It is a mostly West Indian neighborhood, and has tons of little shops with great food.
A few stops north on the 2 or 5 trains will take you to the lively Franklin Ave neighborhood. With places like the Franklin Park Beer Garden, Dutch Boy Burgers, Breuklyn Coffeehouse, and Chavella's, there are tons of food and drink options. Also, the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Library are nearby. One stop north on the Q will bring you to the adorable Lincoln Rd neighborhood with the Blue Roost Coffeeshop as well as Cafe Enduro.
If I am home, you will be staying with me: a world-travelling actress/ yoga instructor. I've been to every continent, play a bit of piano, love Shakespeare, spreche etwas Deutsch, and am originally from South Carolina. I am a great host (Southern hospitality) and love helping people with their travel plans, if need be.
Looking forward to meeting you!
You will have a private bedroom with a door to yourself. Shared bathroom and eat-in kitchen. Day access to a comfy living room with plenty of books, desk, plants, and record player.
Interaction with Guests
It's pretty capricious. I do work a lot, so sometimes I'm barely home. Other times, I have more time to hang out and get a drink or something. It depends on my schedule.
Sometimes I am out of town, and not at the apartment at all.
I love the West Indian food and vibe in this neighborhood. Very laid-back. Also, just a ten minute walk to Prospect Park! You come out near the lake and they just opened up an ice-skating rink there.
The subway is just a couple of blocks away!
Other Things to Note
It would be great if anyone interested in staying has a profile picture, and info about themselves. This is my home, after all. I would love to know who is coming to stay!
I'm pretty easy-going... No smoking, no shoes, no guests, no crazy amounts of noise or dirtiness.
Just be a normal, respectful person. :)
We had a great time staying at Michelle's! Our room was super clean, homey and aesthetically pleasing. Location was perfect, right by multiple subway lines and short walking distance to prospect park. Highly recommend, Michelle was a great host!
This beautiful place was hosted by Michelle, a young actress living in Brooklyn. I really enjoyed our room and Michelle was super easy to contact. We booked the room for the same day, and even though Michelle was at work at the time, she was more than accommodating. The room was clean, and was exactly as the picture and the description stated. Everything in the bathroom and kitchen was clean and had labels. The bedding is extremely comfortable and the light in the morning through the curtains is very pleasant and not too bright. The only drawback was the shower got really hot unexpectedly while taking a shower, and the handle was too hot to adjust. While the first two days I didn't see much of Michelle because she worked, her furry friend (the cutest cat) kept us company. On the last day, she was able to give us directions, hummus and bread, and directed us to the best spots in New York. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Michelle, and I would definitely stay here again.
Michelle's Place was perfect for my visit to SUNY Downstate. She wrote up a very comprehensive summary of how to get to the apartment, and what to do once you get there. It was clean, secure, and my bed was so comfortable I really didn't want to get out of it when I woke up. Michelle was an amazing host.
I'd heard about Airbnb some time ago from friends some time ago. Being a rather boring, conventional man, I dismissed the idea of using it as 'too weird.' However, being an equally frugal man, I decided that avoiding paying for a NYC hotel room was worth risking some awkwardness.
My fears quickly evaporated when Michelle left me an incredibly well-thought-out email listing nearby cuisine, places of interest and directions to her place.
I arrived at 12 A.M. on a weekday-- much later than I had anticipated-- and she stayed up and we chatted for quite some time. She was even nice enough to provide some much-needed nourishment! The next day she showed me the neighborhood and we took a leisurely stroll through Prospect Park and we chatted some more (she's so well-traveled!)
I can't recommend staying at her place with enough gusto. Aside from being a perfect host and having so much knowledge of the area, she's such a warm, thoughtful and interesting person that I was a bit sad to leave.
Michelle is the nicest host you can wish for. The room was clean and everything as described. We didn't see much of each other, as we and her, too, were out all day. But she gave us tips on how to experience NY ('s food =)) and before we got to NY gave us very detailed information on how to get there and what's near in the area.
The reservation was canceled 4 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
