The photo is from a different room than the one I stayed in, which was on the ground floor. This room looks bigger. I originally asked to book a room in their other house, but it was unavailable, so I took the one they offered. This is evidently one of the upstairs rooms. So my review is actually for the other room.
The best thing about this place is definitely the location. It's right by the Skytrain, and the pier is less than a 5 minute walk.
I was met by Noi's sister, who doesn't speak English, but it really wasn't a problem. She was very helpful. I didn't get to meet Mac and Noi, though I spoke with them on the phone.
The room was pretty clean. And it was quiet most of the time. It's located in a rather unappealing alley away from the main road.
The kitchen wasn't as clean as it might have been, though the bathroom was pretty good.
The room is all of, maybe, 65sf, which is really tiny, especially considering how much furniture it has (bed, two nightstands, desk, chair, fridge and a drying rack). It doesn't have any outside windows, though there are some covered windows (not openable) that face the reception. They aren't well enough covered to keep the light out, so if you like it really dark to sleep, you have to go out at some point and turn the lights off, hoping that everyone is in. I did that but left the kitchen light on so it wasn't completely dark for other guests coming in later.
The lights in the room are inconveniently located at the far end from the door and are pretty dim.
Being next to the entrance, one hears everyone going in and out. There's a noisy iron gate that has to be locked and unlocked whenever anyone comes or goes. Most of the time it was quiet, with little noise from outside. Apart from the gate, my upstairs neighbor was a heavy walker and tended to crash around a bit.
It was quite hot when I was there and the air-conditioning really wasn't up to keeping it cool enough. Leaving it on all night together with the fan, I finally felt comfortable by about 4 or 5am. Mac said he would check it, and I expect he has by now. The fact that there is no air-con in the common areas certainly doesn't help.
The bed is the standard hard Thai mattress, but I was OK with that. WiFi worked very well.
I was only there two nights. I didn't see any of their other rooms, but I suspect that the one I had is the least desirable.
I wanted to leave a day early because of my friend being in the hospital on the other side of town, and also because I was quite uncomfortable in the room, but he wouldn't budge on his strict policy so I stayed an extra night.
This is our sixth year hosting guests on Airbnb. We're a guesthouse not a hotel.I can only comment on what we are doing. I really enjoyed staying with Noi & Mac. It had everything what I needed: good bed, shower, power outlet. It is a old house in very typical Thai style and has a good atmosphere and its in a perfect location close to the boat harbor giving access to Kings Palace, Wat Poh, Flower Market and close to the bts station which brings u everywhere u wish to go.
So great to have a chance to meet you Man! Thanks for taking your time to write us a review of your stay too! Staying with Mac & Noi was one of our favorite experiences during our trip to Thailand. Their warm hospitality provided a nice interlude from the rapid pace in Bangkok. Their home was always welcoming whether upon first arrival, or after a long day of sightseeing. They are a great resource for what to see and do, as well as what to avoid, much appreciated by anyone newly arriving in Bangkok. Another delightful aspect of their home was meeting others, and we especially enjoyed talking with a couple from Barcelona. Experiences such as this are why we so enjoy staying with AirBNB hosts. Mac has many projects, which will further enhance the ambiance of their home, and we look forward to returning in the future.
This place offers the perfect gateway to a vast array of attractions and to witnessed and experienced the real day to day life of this very historic part on the city of Bangkok. A stone throw away from here is the train station and a short walk is the pier for you to explore the great Choa Phraya river.
Mac and Noi were a great host and ever so helpful and accomodating for my wonderful stay at their place.Being a short boat ride to the famous fabric market of little India and China world
will delight for those who are hunting for fabrics at great bargains.
There were so many places to go and so easily accessible by the train from this place. As the name indicates, this place is a guesthouse for those who are really looking out for a real adventure. But if fancy n spoilt is what ur looking for then the Shangri-La is just right next door by walking.
Really cant wait for my next trip and hope to see you guys again!
Our room was large, with two comfortable queen beds, great A/C and large fridge. Complete with bottled water, BIG towels and TOILET PAPER, which we have not always found in our travels. GREAT location! Mac and Noi gave very helpful touring info.
We had a great time - we hung (email hidden) alot and they were super helpful in guiding us around. One quick note - it can be difficult to get around Bangkok, and I would say the best way to get to the Guesthouse from the Airport (or back) is to take the Airport Train to Phaya Thai (the last stop) and then just grab a cab - its cheaper and faster than any other route that we could find...
Other than that - it was nice to have hot water and A/C - and our room even had a dvd player with a usb slot so we used that to charge our iphones.
