You've heard the lyrics to America the Beautiful. Now live those "purple mountain majesties!" This is a double-deck, fully-furnished mountainside cabin built in 2013. Just a stone's throw from D.C. and Richmond, it's the perfect scenic getaway!
This is a modern, fully-furnished cabin that epitomizes comfort and relaxation. It features a king bed on the top floor and a queen bed and sleeper queen on the bottom floor. Both floors have their own decks and bathrooms and are separated by a closing door if privacy is desired. The top floor has an open plan without walls separating the bed, kitchen, and entertainment area. The bottom floor is also open, with the bed and living areas separated by a privacy screen.
The kitchen is fully-equipped and boasts a Starbucks coffee machine among other amenities. The cabin has WiFi (wireless) access and a TV with DVDs or Roku.
Guests will have access to the entire cabin, all amenities, and all entertainment options (including wireless internet). The cabin has a fireplace, but it can only be used between October 15 and April 1.
The cabin is only 15 minutes away from shopping and quaint downtown Stanardsville (the Lafayette Inn is a great place for Sunday brunch). The cabin is 15 minutes from the entrance to Shenandoah National Park (Blue Ridge Parkway/scenic drives and hikes). It is also smack dab in the middle of Virginia wine country, with the following wineries within a 15-30 minute drive: Kilaurwen, Stone Mountain, Moss, Autumn Hill, Early Mountain, and Barboursville.
Other Things to Note

Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis, and we ask that guests take utmost care with pets in and around the cabin.

The listing and the pictures do not do this place justice. It is absolutely beautifully decorated with a gorgeous view. Clean and well kept. David's instructions were easy to follow and he had a very prompt response time. The layout of this place is very open with no separation between bedroom and kitchen on top floor so just be aware if you are going with another couple, etc. But perfect if going with friends and wanting to be in constant company! Can always escape to bottom floor if needed! Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful stay in David's cabin! It was exactly as described and the instructions and information left by our host made it very easy for us to get immediately comfortable. And when we got snowed in, David helped arrange for us to get out! Beautiful cabin with great scenery. We would definitely go again. Thanks!
The cabin is more beautiful than the pictures let on, and the view is spectacular. Really wonderful stay. If you're heading up there when the weather is snowy/icy, I'd recommend a car with 4-wheel drive.
Lovely cabin in the mountains! The views were amazing, the beds were comfortable, and the overall space was well planned. The kitchen had a large table that accommodated all of us, and was the heart of the home. David made it extremely easy to check in, and allowed us the full use of everything in the house! We do wish the Starbucks pods were available as stated, as we didn't bring coffee (but did use some that was left over!); however, that was the only hiccup! David left a list of wineries to visit, antique shops to go to, etc. and made our girls weekend easy to just unpack and relax. Although we can't wait to go back I do think it's important to know that the "bedrooms" are really just very beautiful, and comfy beds in a room....not in their own room! It worked out well for us, but for two couples may be a shocker. All in all, we sing David's praises and can't wait to go back!! Thank you for hosting us, opening up your home, and providing all necessities needed for a great weekend.
Can't say enough good things about this cabin. Beautiful, well-appointed space in a truly amazing location. We had the best weekend getaway and will book again in the future. David was great at communicating before we checked-in and the place came with perfect instructions. Fantastic experience.
We chose this cabin for a small reunion with college friends and it was absolutely perfect. While we initially thought that not having walls on the bed areas could be a con, the cabin ended up being cozy, warm, and had large spaces for us all to be together. I would say that if you travel to this home with non-family members, just make sure they're folks you are comfortable with.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat and David had provided all necessary items - towels, linens, kitchen utensils, etc. - to make the stay hassle free.
Thank you again!
Our host, David, was very accommodating and extremely prompt in replies to our questions - as second timers, we still ask a few more than others might. He was very flexible with our check-in and provided a well-stocked folder with both activities and household information.
As far as the home, it has beautiful views of the valley and lake as shown in the listing. The house clearly takes advantage of the views - from both the windows and the dual decks. Serene is the word I would choose to describe the overall experience; sitting on the deck, drinking coffee in the mornings looking down hillside will do wonders for anyone frazzled by the day-to-day grind of the DC metro area. We continued relaxing in the evenings by sitting near the fire in the living/sitting area while watching Netflix on the Roku or a DVD.
We were looking forward to driving on Skyline Drive - the Rocky Gap entrance is just about 7 minutes from the home, but due to snow on Skyline Drive it was closed.
Overall this was a great experience - both the host and the home.
