We really loved staying at this place where we received an extremely warm welcome by Manono, and lovely fruit plate all from the gardens. Although this place is a little more remote and not truly in the heart of Captain Cook, we found it an excellent spot to do day trips out of, being able to drive all the way to Volcano, Hilo and Akaka Falls and back in the day. Also recommend going to South Point where I saw the most breathtaking sunset, whales included, and making the trek to the Green Sand Beach. The ambiance of the farm itself is lovely with beautiful, happy chickens, ducks, dogs and geese, the wonderful and energetically powerful labyrinth. The place also has an extremely comfortable and lovely bed which was a welcome relief after some of the other places I stayed and I feel was much nice and larger in real life than the photos do justice to.
We loved it and would certainly come back for another visit.
Aloha, Nani and Manono. Staying with them was a highlight of our trip and the first place we'd return to if we're able to get back to Hawaii.
Their place was very comfortable, decorated with fresh flowers from the garden and beautiful Hawaiian quilts. We enjoyed being on the farm and learning about their agriculture efforts. But best of all were Nani and Manono themselves. We'd heard and read about the aloha spirit, but with them we truly experienced it. They were gracious and thoughtful.
All the previous reviews praising the warmth, hospitality, peacefulness and beauty of this special place are true. My boyfriend and I had the privilege of staying at Ho'oli farm for 1 month. We were welcomed with hugs and left feeling that we were departing from a true home away from home. The location is great because it's close to some of the best snorkeling in all the islands and not a far drive from cute captain cook area. Grocery stores are a short drive away. The property is spacious, comfortable and private. Nani, Manono, and Michele were such kind and giving hosts. They were quick to respond to any need or request and made us feel like part of the family. I would go back in a heart beat, I miss them as if I've known them for years, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful, fun, beautiful, and truly hawaiian abode.
We had a great time! Such warm, welcoming and generous hosts! The apartment was very clean and had everything one might need for a few nights stay. Cute dogs, nice neighbors, great outdoor shower (there's an indoor one too) and fabulous coffee, mac nuts and fruit. A note to guests: it can get a bit chilly and damp in the evening- bring a comfy sweatshirt!
Nani and Manono were wonderful hosts. This was our first time visiting Hawaii and we couldn't have been luckier to stay at Ho'oli farm. The helpfulness and kindness of our hosts and the beauty of their land exceeded our expectations. The studio was just what we were looking for, with a stove, grill and large fridge we cooked at home almost every day and often ate our breakfasts on the screened in porch, drinking delicious 100% Kona coffee that grows all around the land. The outdoor shower was our favorite part and we loved that they used rainwater catchment! We really hope to stay here the next time we visit the Big Island!
You may have read about the "Spirit of Aloha". Roxanne and Manono live and share that beautiful spirit. They are thoughtful, welcoming, generous, and kind.
We came from the east side of the big island, and Manono made sure to email us more specific directions from there. They also thoughtfully arranged fresh flowers and ferns in each room. Earlier guests have been very specific in their reviews and it matches with our experience as well. The farm is not close to Kona, but not too far away. The apartment is exactly as pictured and described, with the addition of well thought out kitchen equipment (the better to enjoy the organic bounty of the farm). We loved cooking dinner here in the cool, quiet evenings after sunset. It is so relaxing on the farm. We are certainly happy and very blessed to have spent time there with our hosts: Roxanne, Manono, Makana, and Kila.
We stayed a month with our gracious, wonderful hosts Nani and Manono, and their two dogs: Makana, their lab/sharpei mix is the grand dame of the farm, and newest addition to the family, the puppy (Prince) Kila (lab/something mix). They invited us to celebrate New Year's eve Hawaiian style, and to share many a pupus (Hawaiian appetizers) around the fire ring. It was a delight to meet their friends and family members, and to listen as they talked story.
Manono and Nani are most willing to impart the knowledge of sustainable living they have acquired throughout the years at Hooli Hale, and to share in its bounty. We were truly blessed to share the bananas, papayas, guavas, mac nuts, avocados, tamarillos, eggs (duck, chicken and geese), lilokoi (passion fruit), kona coffee, and numerous other vegetables and herbs grown on the farm!
The apartment is spacious and light-filled, with all the amenities one needs for a comfortable stay. The view from the lanai of the ocean is grand, frequently leading to dramatic sunsets (and moonsets in the early morning)! The sky is often clear at night and the stars shine with a brilliance that can only be seen outside the city. The quiet and peaceful setting is a joy and a century in time away from the hustle and bustle of Kona or Hilo.
Big, big Mahalo Nui Loa to Nani and Manono!!!!
What a wonderful, relaxing place. It's a little slice of paradise set in a fantastic garden and looked after by two lovely and kind people, Nani and Manono, as well as their lovable dog, Makana.
We loved our time there and enjoyed, especially, the farm tour and the conversations with our hosts.
If you have time while there, you should check out Pu`uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park and if you have time, go up to Pineapple Park in Captain Cook and rent some snorkel gear to swim in the waters next to the park. It's the best place we found in all our travels on Maui and Hawaii combined.
We loved our stay on the Hooli Ohana organic farm with wonderful hosts Roxanne and Manono and their lucky dog. The setting is beautiful with native Hawaiian plants, farming and animals, and fresh eggs, mac nuts, and coffee grown right on site. The best part of all was spending time with the sweet and knowledgeable hosts. This is a great place to stay.
Roxanne and Manono were wonderful hosts and the place is exquisite! Such a wonderful experience in a relaxing environment! The apartment is 10x what we expected to have for the price. To get up in the morning and being able to hand pick your fruits was simply amazing. They welcomed us into their home with arms wide open. We enjoyed a great ''pupu'' night together, being able to learn about each other. Although the place is a bit remote from Kona, it's ideal for an authentic and relaxing experience!
