Looking for a comfortable, lovely place to stay in one of the greatest cities in the world? Look no further. We are listing a fantastic garden studio, with two sleeping rooms, full bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. With one queen and one twin bed, it can sleep three comfortably. Attached to the studio is a beautiful, tranquil and blooming garden which is wonderful to enjoy your morning coffee or tea in, or an evening glass of wine. There are fresh herbs to use for cooking and many varieties of roses. There are also beautiful birds (including hummingbirds) who enjoy bathing in the fountain. It is fun to watch! We have recently added a fire pit which makes the foggy SF evenings so much more pleasant :)
We are located in the Mission Terrace neighborhood, about 10-15 minutes from SFO airport. There is access to HWY101 and HWY 280 within less than a mile. As the entire city of San Francisco is 7 miles by 7 miles, we are still close to everything even though we are not located right in the center of the city. (See public transportation section below for more information.) As an added bonus, this is one of the few areas in San Francisco where there is free parking available!
WALK-ABILITY: Our neighborhood, Mission Terrace, has a Walkability Score of 84 out of 100. This means that our location “is very walkable so most errands can be accomplished on foot.” There are several nice parks, grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. nearby. (See below for more details!)
PUBLIC TRANSIT: Our location has excellent access to public transit and has a Transit Score of 92 out of 100. There are roughly 30 nearby routes: 15 buses and 12 rails. The closest BART train station is Glen Park BART, a 10 minute walk less than half a mile away. The Muni is even closer (less than a 5 minute walk) where you can easily catch the “J Church” or the “F Market & Wharves” tram at the San Jose Ave and Santa Rosa Ave stop less than 2 blocks away. There are also numerous buses that run nearby, including a bus that can take you directly to Golden Gate Park and a 24 hour bus line down Mission Street. For those traveling by air, the BART can take you directly from the terminals at SFO airport to the nearby Glen Park station in just 22 minutes. Or, for even more convenience the Super Shuttle or a local taxi cab can bring you directly from the terminals to the doorstep. If you take the right bus or train you can get almost anywhere in the city from our location in about half an hour or less.
GOOD FOOD: San Francisco is known for its good food, and finding it in our neighborhood is no exception! Nearby there are a variety of cuisines, ranging from casual and inexpensive to others are much fancier. American, Mexican, Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese, Central/South American, Vietnamese, Pilipino, Thai - no doubt you could find any type of cuisine to suit your taste here! This also includes ice cream shops, bakeries, bars, coffee shops, deli’s, and a locals’ favorite sandwich shop right here in the neighborhood. Besides restaurants, there are also a neighborhood pharmacy (Walgreens), hardware store, grocery stores, several banks, electronics store, florists, a bookstore, and a library. And if you feel like having a night in, but don’t want to miss out on any of the good food there are many options for places that offer local delivery, as well.
SUPERMARKETS/GROCERIES: There are two large grocery stores nearby: Canyon Market (0.4 miles away) is known throughout San Francisco for its fresh, local, organic food options and good beer/wine selection. People come from all over town to shop at Canyon Market, but luckily we live very nearby! Safeway (one 0.6 miles away and one 0.7 miles away) has pretty much anything else you could ever need. For other smaller grocery needs, there are corner markets on almost every block corner in the Mission, the closest to us being the Red Sea Market which is just 2 block corners away. With a $15 minimum order, they even offer free delivery!
ENTERTAINMENT: There is a TV/DVD combo and several DVD’s in the Garden studio for your entertainment needs. While we do not have cable or local TV channels, we do have a ROKU attached to the TV which gives you access to many shows and movies via Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant video, etc. So even without cable or satellite TV your movie and TV show options are pretty much limitless...although while you’re in San Francisco we really recommend you not to spend too much of your time indoors watching TV. There is so much to do and see in our wonderful city!! We are happy to offer tips or pointers if you would like any locals advice.
EDUCATIONAL INTERESTS: SF State University and SF City College are within two miles. There is a neighborhood branch of the San Francisco library within easy walking distance, less than half a mile away.
OUR IDEAL GUESTS: Our cozy, clean, and quiet garden studio is ideal for families or other groups of 1-3 people...such as travelers who enjoy getting out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and who enjoy living life as a local...adventurers who enjoy lovely walks and fun bus/train rides...people who like having a safe, free and easy location to park their car...travelers who enjoy meeting their hosts and getting tips and advice on things to do and see.. and those who enjoy having a good time in life and seeing things off the beaten path.

Although we didn't get to personally meet our hosts, they made us feel extremely welcomed and checked in with us via email and texts to inquire whether we needed anything. The accommodations were excellent: clean, comfortable, beautiful. It's located in what appeared to be a family-like neighborhood, peaceful and safe and with easy access to other parts of the city. We strongly recommend this listing!
Ana, Aldo y Nicolas.
The place is perfect. The location is great, very quiet and cozy.
There was enough communication between us where it wasn't intrusive but I was sure I would have any needs met if they came up.
The home was warm and the bathroom was nice and roomy.
The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. Parking was easy to find and was free so extra bonus there.
Definitely recommend the place to anyone who wants to enjoy the sights and sounds of SF without having to worry about accommodations.
Natalie and Paige are great hosts. Very warm, welcoming and gentle people. They took us to their church on Christmas and invited us to a drink. We really felt like home. The apartment is very cosy and we didn't miss anything. Natalie and Paige even provided us with a baby bed for our baby. We can highly recommend this place and hope to come back one day. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
I spent about a month at Natalie, Page and Tennyson's one bedroom apartment.
The place is perfect. The location is great, very quiet and cozy. The garden next to the bedroom is beautiful. The bart and Muni are really close. A great grocery store, restaurants and coffee shops are an easy 8 to 10 minutes walk from the apartment.
But what really makes this stay exceptional are the hostesses. Natalie and Paige are fantastic and their baby Tennyson is adorable.
This place has it all and more!
Natalie is so sweet! She brought us down pumpkin pie and wine to help me celebrate my birthday trip. The place is very cute and clean. The patio area is wonderful to drink coffee at in the morning. Within walking of the Bart which was nice. And short cab ride to some great places to eat and shop.
Enjoyed having the Roku over cable because it allowed us to listen to music and watch shows and movies.
Thanks so much for the great stay!
My mother and I had a great 4 night stay in the Garden Cottage. The setting is tranquil and the cottage is adorable. We had a rental car which was convenient to park but used the easily accessible public transportation on the day we explored downtown SF.
Natalie and Paige (with help from Tennyson, I'm sure) provided great restaurant recommendations and we took advantage of their library of travel books (sometimes the internet can make travel decisions a little overwhelming) to narrow down a day of exploring in Sonoma.
An added bonus was the Supper Club by Chef Natalie! We loved sitting down for a great dinner in the cottage kitchen with our bottle of Sonoma wine after a long day of driving and hiking. That was definitely a treat! I'm sad we didn't have one more day to sit and relax in the garden.
We will be back to stay on our next trip to San Francisco!
