Staying at the teak house, hosted by Bob, was a wonderful experience. The little repurposed rice barns are beautiful, almost like loft tree houses, and they have everything you need complimentary (drinking water, toilet paper, towels, blankets etc.). Its just a little rugged/outdoorsy and out of the way of the main town, but that was just what we were looking for. Bob was able to provide us transportation to and from the airport, but then we rented a motorbike (which was delivered to the teak house) so we could go around as we pleased. Bob is also a friendly, great host with lots of advice on all things local, and tourist attractions. I was bored one day and ended up hanging out with Bob and his construction crew (they're finishing up one more rental house), and felt quite at home. I highly recommend this place!
Bob is an AWESOME host making you feel among friends since the first minute.
The house is cozy and you can ear morning birds among the small creek nearby which is very relaxing.
Even if is built quite simply, the house is very well decorated and is perfect for 1 night or few weeks considering the 2 floor space and the big kitchen area where I would love to make a barbecue next time.
Bob's dogs are extremely friendly and great holiday companions in the premises.
I WANT to say that Bob is so warm -harted and would be glad to pick us up at airport . He also will tell you the routine of old city or any where you want to go. unfortunately we got lost, but we called Bob and he helped us a lot. Because he didn't at home , he let his pretty daughter to show me the way, and we talked together for a while, and i think Bob is not only a kind people but also a nice father.
Besides, the house is teak house with traditional decoration，actually it is quite far to go to old city but if you rent a motorcycles(about 200B ) THAT would be more convenient and you can experience the real native lifestyle and he has seven dogs, which are sometimes cute sometimes not, lol~ but they can look after the house and keep it safe. thanks Bob, we hope that we could stay longer but we have limited time, if it possible that I will come to live there for longer time ~
We had an excellent time at the teakhouse in Chiang Mai. We had planned to stay for only one night but ended up staying for five because we enjoyed it a lot.
The owner Bob, build several teak houses on his property a few km away from the busy city center. Here it is more quiet and you feel and see the village and farm live around you. The houses are very comfortable, clean places which Bob furnished with nice antique. Especially the bigger teak house i can recommend.
Furthermore Bob is a great host and was one of the reasons why we stayed longer. He really knows a lot about chiang mai, thai culture but also stories from canada ( where he is originally from) came across. Bob picked us up from the airport and gave us lots of information on what to do around.
Transport from his village to chiang mai is easy. You can take a yellow 'cab' which comes across every 10 min or rent a scooter and go by yourself.
We would defintely recommend this place and will go back if we go to chiang mai again.
Although Bob was very kind to pick us up at the Chiang Mai train station, I regret to say our overall 7-day experience with his Airbnb accommodation was terribly disappointing. We arrived to find no toilet paper or soap in our 'teak house' that was not well cleaned. Bob said he doesn't provide soap. We went to a nearby 7-11 to buy toilet paper and soap. Bob did offer us one roll of toilet paper 24 hours after we arrived. The bedside lamp didn't work but Bob supplied a new lamp 3 days after we arrived.
The 'kitchen' had two old pots, one burned pan, a hot plate that doesn't function properly, a microwave, dirty cups, dirty utensils & a very dusty dining table. We used the refrigerator and the water Bob supplied but nothing else. It was too dirty.
The 'courtyard' of Bob's compound is a construction site and up to five workers arrived daily between 8-8:30 am. There was hammering, sawing and building work going on until 5:00 pm. There are 8 dogs at Bob's house and 22 small barking dogs down the street at his neighbor's house. Several mornings all the dogs barked and howled at 5:30 am.
Bob's house is about 1/4 mile walk from a six-lane highway that we had to run across in order to flag down a yellow bus to take us into Chiang Mai. It was a 30-45 minute ride one way. The yellow bus stops running before 6:00 pm. We learned the hard way that a cab ride back to Hang Dong costs 300 baht. It would be much easier if you have a motorcycle.
Bob also offered us a lift back to the train station when we left. However a lovely Thai person befriended us and took us to station instead. In our opinion, Bob needs to hire a full-time cleaner to take care of the five houses in his compound. We use Airbnb all over the world and have never had a bad experience like this. Our week in Chiang Mai was colored negatively by the chaos that we felt characterized our stay with Bob. We said goodbye to Bob but we would never return or recommend his place in Hang Dong.
I sorry you were not happy with chiang mai as you spoke negative about it right from the start . it sad when you go somewhere and not like the place but chiang mai is (website hidden) strange that all of these problems no else seem to have I told you all towels and toilet paper or if I not at home just help yourself just ask I told you at start when arrived.there was no dirty kitchen there never was a leak and you didn't tell (website hidden) fixed now . one day 5 men brought some wood and nothing until after 9 only two old men you know that .if it was so bad why do you stay for a week .
Really enjoyed our time at Bob's teak house. Bob is a great guy and is very helpful. He picked us up at the bus station on arrival and also dropped us off at the airport when we left. The location is fantastic. Hang Dong is easy to get to from Chiang Mai so don't be put off by the location. We hired a bike and it took us about 20 minutes to drive in to Chiang Mai. There is also a local bus that you can catch 5 minutes walk from the teak house that takes you into Chiang Mai and costs 20 baht. The area around the teak house is very peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful countryside. There are also great local restaurants within walking distance and about 1 km away there is a brand new mall with a McDonalds, Western style supermarket, a sports bar and good western restaurants. There is a night market here twice a week selling clothes and local Thai delicacies.
Would definitely recommend and we will be returning some time later this year.
