Super sunny apartment, it is very well located only 15 minutes walk to the Ramblas and Paseo de Gracia, and 15 minutes walk to the beach and Picasso Museum and Parc de la Citadella and only 8 blocks to La Sagrada Familia.
It has a double room with a nice compfortable bed and a childrens room with two single beds, one dinning room for 8 p , a living room with a jardin d'hiver, a complete kitchen and a bathroom with a shower, there is also a small W.C. in the hall. For nice breakfast there is a small balcony with direct sun the whole morning.A folding bed is available if you are 5 p or you need to invite a friend sleepover during your stay.Wifi is high speed and the towels and linnen are provided with the rental.
The quartier is a very popular one plenty of supermarkets, the local library is just around the corner, there are two small markets with local products. Many buses connect you to everywhere and two metro stations just three blocks away: Arc de Triomf and Tetuan, though you can just walk to get to the most interesting spots.
The ideal flat for a family with young children or teenagers for your stay in Barcelona.
The communication was fluid and enjoyable with Jessica.
Jessica informed me that there was construction work on the back facade after I booked the rental —not before. Since it was during Christmas holidays, there were no workers working. But the back balcony and windows had scaffoldings, a protective net and were full of concrete droppings. I was hoping for a more uplifting experience in a late 19th early 20th century Eixample apartment for a holiday. The rooms were smaller than they appear on the photos. What impressed me was that the apartment was also faded and worn in, badly needing a coat of paint, which was not the impression I got from the photos where everything seems super white, bright and clean.
One of the reasons I chose the apartment was to be in the Eixample. To my regret, the apartment is not in the ´high´ and architecturally flamboyant art nouveau part of that district. It is located in its Eastern edge. Most of the buildings around are post war, 1950's, dull concrete buildings. You have to go closer the Passeig de Gracia to see more inspiring architecture. The neighbourhood seems quite safe, day and night, like the rest of the Eixample. It is located near Arc de Triomf metro station, which is practical. A bit further West on the street is a great restaurant, Casa Calvet, located in a Gaudi building that should not be missed. The food, service and decor are excellent!
The apartment is composed of 3 main rooms (dining room, living room, master bedroom) that give at the back of the building and are thus are very quiet, especially at night for sleeping. The kitchen, bathroom and children's room give onto a corridor that leads to the front where the children's room faces the street where cars can be heard as this is single glazing.
I in fact never met Jessica as she was away on holiday with her family. Her sister was waiting for me at the apartment at the agreed time. She showed me around and explained me the basics. It appeared she had cleaned up a few essential things before my arrival, like the toilet, the shower base. I asked her if the sheets of the bed were clean and had been changed. She said yes, but when I came to use the bed at night, the sheet over the mattress was creased as if someone had slept in it. There were crumbs for some odd reason. The sheets smelled soap detergent, so I don’t know what to make of it. Perhaps they were clean but just old. I wished I didn’t have to ask myself these questions. The bathroom towels were as rough as sandpaper, as there is no clothe dryer. These are perhaps small things that you don’t get in a hotel for the same price, and may not matter much depending on your expectations. I can now say I stayed in a genuine Barcelona apartment :)
Jessica's apartment was a great place for our family of four to spend several days in Barcelona. It is very well located to local restaurants as well as public transportation. The apartment was light and airy with lovely tall ceilings. The place was clean and quiet also - just a little noise from people on stairs in building. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen, although cozy, had pretty much everything we needed and we were happy to be able to cook some of our meals. We would definitely stay there again if in Barcelona.
A very cozy apartment at a short walking distance from all the important places. Also easy access to the public transportations (train, bus, tram and metro).
Very suitable for family with kids.
The stay in Jessicas place was just perfect!
Jessica was very attentive and quick to reply to any questions or concerns I had. The apt was in a great location and surprisingly quiet in the bedroom. I'm a very light sleeper and hearing the neighbors from other parts of the apartment made me nervous the first day, but I was never woken up by any noise. It was, however, really hot trying to sleep. There is a fan we used, but it was a little uncomfortable. I mentioned to Jessica and she replied right away with several suggestions.
I LOVED the little terrace that overlooks the street and made it into my temporary office space, surrounded by plants and wonderful city sounds of Barcelona.
It's a 10min walk to Sagrada Familia where you can purchase tickets for one of the open top tour buses, which I highly recommend. We were able to see so much of Barcelona in one day. My advice would be to purchase tickets to Sagrada Familia online and pick up at the online ticket window. You can show the staff your confirmation email on your phone, along with the same credit cards used to purchase and you won't have to print anything out. If you buy tickets there, it 's about a 20-30min wait in the hot sun. A small umbrella would have been a good idea. We also really enjoyed Parc Gruell and Tibidabo (you gotta go up in the church! Highest point in Barcelona. Stunning!!).
Restaurants we LOVED!!!
Around the corner from Jessica's is Jaizkibel. 180 Carrer de Sicilia DELICIOUS, fresh, local seafood. And I'm craving their pimentos this very minute. Ask for Felipe and trust him. He knows what he's talking about and they are open during siesta.
La Llavor dels Origens 12 Carrer de Ramon y Cajal
Incredibly fresh, organic yumminess. Try one of their tasting menus.
Tapeo, anem de tapes 29 Carrer de Montcada
Freakin off the charts good!!! Meet the charming Chef and go with his recommendations and be sure to get the honey & mustard ribs. Damn! Oh! The chocolate with salt and olive oil dessert was amazing.
We'd definitely stay here again and I'd gladly recommend the apartment to a couple or someone with kids that could use the bunk beds.
It was a pleasure to stay in this delightful apartment. The house is located in a central location is very comfortable and particularly suitable for families with young children. My son did not want leave the house! He wanted to play with toys that the hosts put at our disposal. Jessica has been a great hostess, very friendly, close and concerned all the time that everything were fine.
The house had everything you require to feel like at home. And that was just what we were looking for ..
I'm sure we'll repeat stay.
Good location--cafes, shops, and markets nearby.
We (a family with 2 children) had a great time in this quiet and welcoming apartment.
The Apartment is perfectly located you have shops and a covered market yust around the corner.
Jessica is a very good host and will be helping you whatever you need.
Thanks again for the nice week we spent in your apartment we just felt like beeing at home, especially our kids.
This is a spacious apartment in a great location. Getting there was very easy. It's about 10 minutes by foot from Plaça de Catalunya, where the Aerobus runs frequently all day long to and from BCN airport. It's also not far away from the famous Sagrada Família built by Antoni Gaudí. I felt at home right away after receiving a warm welcome from the hosts with jazz music and a beautiful christmas tree. The master bedroom is very quiet and the bed super comfortable. With two bathrooms and the kids bedroom tucked away down the hallway, the apartment provides added privacy for two couples. It's a great value, given that this place can easily compete with a hotel suite that costs 5 times as much and doesn't have a piano. Jessica was a pleasure to deal with, she very was very helpful and attentive all the time. I would stay here again anytime.
