Hip, historical & located next to city centre Taksim, Cihangir is the neighbourhood to stay in Istanbul. Charming apartment with a mixture of traditional and modern aura, a renovated bathroom and a wonderful Bosphorus view from the living room & bedroom.

The flat used to be our family home where my mom and I were raised. As of 8 Oct 2019, I rent it as a whole apartment (no shared spaces) and use it as an art project space on days when I block the calendar.

The space
Our family apartment underwent some changes and it now serves as the project space of my art entrepreneurship SyncSociety. Being myself a visual artist, I wanted to create an alternative and experimental space that can provide a different experience of art both for artists and their audience.

To summarise, 'SyncHouse' serves as an artist-run art space hosting small scaled exhibitions and events once every 1-3 months (no booking is allowed during those dates), and a home for guests. It is actually a 2+1, approximately 85m2 authentic and cosy apartment in a residential building (one of the bedrooms serves as a storage, so it will be locked during guests's stays and it is not included in the listing's photos). There is also a small balcony where you can enjoy the bosphorus view (smoking is only allowed on the balcony).

I am no longer living here, so as a guest you would be the only one having access. The space is decorated with few of my photography works. It is best suited for a single traveler or a couple enjoying art.

Also, IF YOU PLAN ON CHECKING-IN AFTER 21:00 / 9PM, please ASK first before booking as I live quite far and may usually not be able to accept later check-ins.

Where you’ll be

Istanbul, Istanbul Province, Turkey

I used to live in Cihangir until my late-20s and I can say it's one of the best place to stay in Istanbul if you wish to enjoy both the historical sites, art galleries, museums, design shops, cultural activities and the nightlife scene while hanging around in a chic-boheme neighbourhood.

Cihangir hosts many unique restaurants serving international and Turkish cuisine at a walking distance as well as art galleries, bars, cafés, small boutiques and antique shops.
The flat is conveniently located in this lively area, yet the surrounding of the façade facing the bosphorus is calm, which makes it ideal for working or relaxation.

The main walking street Istiklal Street where you can find malls, international brands, restaurants, cafes, bars & nightclubs is also 5 min by walk.

Make sure to check the map where I pin-pointed some recommendations, but here's more:
HAMAM (Turkish Bath)
- I wouldn’t say this Hamam is cheap, but personally I like it only when it looks well maintained like this one:
http://kilicalipasahamami.com/
- I haven’t been here but you could maybe take a look before booking as it is also in the area:

Personally I don’t listen much to the local Turkish music, but you can check these out for the indie/alternative kind:

- Try Kiki for a night out http://www.kiki.com.tr/

As for the beach, it must be Suma Beach
https://www.facebook.com/SumaBeach

There are a lot of places that serve food and Rakı but there are basically 2 kinds, one that serves sea food & fish (Meyhane) and the other red meat based dishes (Ocakbaşı) as the main course (both have small dishes to be shared).
Fish:
Neyle Meyle
Akın Balık
Asmalı Cavit
Karaköy Lokantası (Perfect but a little pricey, need a reservation in the evenings)
Meat:
Zübeyir Ocakbasi
