I couldn't have felt more welcomed or at home with Susan and Owen. Buster and the cats were a big bonus for me, but if you're not a cat person, they are careful about keeping them out of the guest wing. The rooms are old-farmouse-creaky-comfy, and Susan clearly takes great pains to make sure everything is ready for you -- both the necessities (towels, toiletries, etc.) and some nice extras (chocolate, water and wine). Breakfast is in their kitchen at a very small table, and they were a highlight. I went for sweet one day (Owen's chickpea flower blueberry pancakes) and savory the next (Susan's amazing veggie frittata). Do note that the bed in the main bedroom is only a double, so if you are with your spouse and are used to a larger bed, one of you might want to sleep in the other room. Anyway, it was an awesome alternative to staying in the Colgate dorms for Reunion. I was only 5 minutes away, but had my own peace and quiet.
We stayed two nights with Susan & Owen over our son’s graduation weekend at Hamilton College. Their old farmhouse is beautiful and and situated in a lovely, quiet and peaceful setting with beautiful gardens and trees. We had two quaint bedrooms with a shared bathroom; everything was comfortable and they were very solicitous of our needs. Breakfasts featured excellent quality, locally sourced foods, and Susan was a great cook. Both Owen and Susan were warm and forthcoming and we had some great conversations about this and that. We really enjoyed getting to know them. The setting is rustic and the building is old, and full of charm. If you are looking for a Hilton Inn sort of experience, with television and amenities like that, this place might not be for you. But if you are looking for an authentic country experience with peace, quiet and great food and gracious hosts, then this place is highly recommended!
As if the bucolic setting and personal attention (as the only guests) weren't enough, the food is to die for. Susan and Owen are genuinely warm and wonderful people, full of insight and good humor. It was a pleasure to share their company. Notable plus - black lab Buster. A rescue dog and such a sweetie. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Susan and Owen's place was perfect for my son and I. The two bedroom/private bath upstairs wing of the farmhouse in a beautiful quiet setting was just what we hoped for. Susan had the rooms nicely set up, and after a long drive, fun to arrive to a few drinks and snacks. Breakfast was all home-made and local, yeah! Susan and Owen make it look so easy, I felt like a new relaxed person when driving out of their farmhouse driveway.
Susan and Owen are simply lovely people. Now, after my second stay, I consider them friends. They make the best (included) breakfasts and I get lots of kisses from the three cats and dog.
You ask about the neighborhood: It is a somewhat isolated farmhouse. There are some other farms in the vicinity.
Great Experience: I heard from Susan several times beforehand, making sure she had all the facts of our arrival and number of people etc.. Notes were left for us since we were coming in late, but we met them then anyway. The house is a charming, rustic old farmhouse. The rooms are upstairs in a separate wing: a double room, bathroom and single room. It was exactly what we needed: clean, basic. The real magic of the place though is the attention from Susan and Owen once you are there. They are warm, welcoming and helpful. Delicious breakfast with organic homegrown fruits and vegetables are included at a decorated breakfast table. Owen even fried up some of his own mushrooms. We are huge dog-lovers and Buster gave us a fix. I would highly recommend staying with these lovely people.
We stayed one night in the guest wing at the farm. Located in the country just outside Hamilton, the farmhouse was beautiful and we enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you Susan and Owen for making us feel welcome and for the delicious breakfast the next morning.
