Scott's place is simply awesome. It's really beautiful and on a great location, just a 30 mins drive to several beaches. We had a very relaxing time there. One note, though: In respect to Scott's kids who live just next door, you need to keep it quiet after 10pm. It's not a big deal considering how great this place is, but good to keep then in mind in case of bigger group coming in.
Overall, we had a great experience at the ranch. The location is fairly remote, but shops and groceries are accessible within a 10 minute drive. Our GPS pointed us elsewhere, but (website hidden) Maps got it right. If you arrive later in the evening, you need to be somewhat careful driving along the narrow paths within the property.
We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the ranch. It's really wonderful and kept very clean, and it was a pleasure to stay there over the weekend with family. It's used as a Yoga retreat on a 50(?) acre lot. Scott and Eva live on the property, and we met Scott the evening when we arrived.
It's a great place to disconnect (no TV, no WiFi), but there's a receiver and speakers throughout the home for music, which worked great!
The kitchen has a 6-burner commercial-like gas stove. We used the hot tub quite a bit, and it was great even though it was located separately from the house.
We went wine tasting in the area, which was a nice experience too.
A couple of issues to be considered:
(1) The water level in the pool was low, so we could not really use it. To be fair, Scott had informed us before we booked that we should not expect a usable pool because of the drought.
(2) Although the house has a pantry, there were instructions not to use any of the supplies as they were meant for the yoga retreat. It helps to plan and bring your own supplies.
Scott's ranch is just incredibly beautiful. If you're looking for a calm place to stay and enjoy some time with your friends this is the ideal place to be!!
Scott is super friendly and easy going. The house has everything you need, super cosy bedrooms, an amazing view, a well equipped kitchen, a big yoga room ...
If you want to experience California you shouldn't miss this place!
Thanks again Scott, we had an incredible time at your ranch!
This place has a wonderful balance of serenity and action. The house design and layout brought us together and allowed for peaceful moments on the grounds. The kitchen was wonderful to cook for the small crowd we had. Scott was accomdating and easy to rent from.
Next time I am up in the area looking for a getaway I will surely return. Thanks again
We loved our stay. We got to be in the caboose, which is a beautifully remodeled(looks restored) train caboose with a comfy king bed, a sitting area, with a shower, sink, & toilet (this is much larger than the small cabins). We loved using the hot tub in the bath house, and the kitchen/dining area was so cute and inviting, we really enjoyed cooking and reading in there. We also spent a day at a nearby lake, went wine tasting, visited a coffee shop, and had a great meal in town.
Pros: remote location & feel, screen free (no Internet, tv, or cell service!), abundant wildlife, facilities are amazing
Cons: (seasonal) pool & lake were drained, no BBQ available and due to fire risk no fire pits could be used,
We had a great time at the Mountain Sanctuary! Its a beautiful, tranquil spot in Santa Margarita, halfway between SF and LA. Both Eva and Scott were excellent hosts, very gracious and respectful of our privacy. The kitchen/dining room was very well-equipped and perfect for staying in and cooking dinner together with friends.
Although we weren't there for yoga, we would consider returning for a yoga retreat hosted by Eva and Scott. It would be the perfect place (with a perfect pool) for a recharge away from the city.

Had an amazing 2 night stay at Mountain Sanctuary. Used our stay as an opportunity to relax in-between travelling from LA to San Francisco. Cabins were clean an cozy. Kitchen and communal lounge were are great place to socialize with the family. Spent mornings lazing in the hammock and cooled of in the pool and hot tub in the afternoons. The pool was so refreshing and relaxing. Seen lots of wildlife which my 2 year old son loved. Eva was a great and friendly host made us feel most welcome. It was a great experience for all my family and we left feeling fresh and recharged.
I am a dada of two beautiful children. I live with my wife Eva on our 45 acre sanctuary just outside of San Luis Obispo, California in Santa Margarita.
