Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.

Garden view

Soak up the view during your stay.
A cozy spot perfect for quick romantic getaways and an equally comfortable base for longer adventures. Views out your windows show perennial flower gardens and trees. Queen mattress in a spacious bedroom, en-suite bathroom (shower), and a living/dining area with an equipped kitchen are all at your service. Enjoy our yard and trails along the river. We are an easy 5 minute drive to a fantastic restaurant and many more within 15 minutes of driving.

The space
Your apartment is on the ground level of our family home. You will need to navigate 10 steps (with railing) down to the private entrance with a mud room, which enters into the living/dining area. Rhododendron trees are planted in front of the windows in the living room, lending extra privacy. Please note that the ceiling height is on the lower side, at 78 inches in the shower, 79 in the bedroom. The bedroom and bathroom are through a door, which closes but does not lock. Two of the three windows in the bedroom look out under our deck, where we neatly and creatively stack wood (holzhausen). Black-out blinds are in each of the windows in the bedroom. We can add a toddler mattress to the floor in the bedroom you like, just let us know. Pack & play is available if requested, along with changing table supplies. Friends who stay with us always end up sleeping in because it is so quiet and cozy. That said, we do have a 9 year old and one cat, who will from time to time make their presence known.

Please note there is an in-ground pool on the property; this is private for our family and not available for guests to use. We are happy to recommend local swimming spots.

Per law, we are required to list the Vermont Meals and Rooms Tax ID number on our listing: MRT-10126712

Guest access
You are welcome to relax in our backyard, using the hammock and picnic table (the deck, screened in porch, and pool/pool house are private). You can access Railroad Lane (old rail bed along the West River) through trails in our backyard, which is excellent for strolling, snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

Other things to note
The apartment is set up to comfortably accommodate 2 adults and 1 child (could also be one child and one infant, which air bnb doesn't count in their guest count, and there is no charge for infants). Despite past reviews mentioning otherwise, we are no longer accepting groups of adults. If you have a child you'd like to bring with you, please reach out and ask, we would be more than happy to set up a bed for them.

Neighborhood highlights

Newfane has a gorgeous, historic green (you've probably seen a picture of it in a calendar). Also in Newfane there is the Fat Crow (excellent pizza and wings), a humble yoga studio, and the handy Newfane Store (making great sandwiches these days with an extensive beer selection). There is a great playground at the elementary school, only a 5 minute walk from our house (available to use after school hours/on the weekends). And about a mile down the road (also accessible via walking through the trails in the woods) is the ever-popular swimming hole in the Rock River, Indian Love Call.

In downtown Brattleboro, an easy 15 minute drive along the West River on Route 30, there is a lot more going on: live music at The Stone Church, great restaurants, plenty of cute and practical shops, more yoga studios than you'll be able to visit, and great places to grab a cup of coffee (Mocha Joes) or golden mylk/fresh pressed juice (Superfresh Organic Cafe). Plus beer. Many craft breweries in town, and all the restaurants have excellent regional selections on tap. Or, stop by the Co*op and pick up your own sample pack to enjoy at your leisure. Also check out the Brattleboro Farmers Market for great local produce & products (a perfect spot for lunch, too) and the Retreat Farm (food trucks & live music on Thursdays in the summer, cute baby animals and walking trails for the whole family year round).
