We had the pleasure of staying in Norma's beautiful home in the middle of Guanajuato. We were met by Norma's mother Elena who saved us a park outside the house on the street, and ensured we were settled comfortably in side. Norma was away so we did not have the opportunity to meet with her but Norma ensured we had directions to reach her house and arranged for Elena to meet us. Elena was a delight! Elena was friendly and welcoming and told us of the history of their hometown. The house is amazing, the views spectacular by day and night and we feel grateful for the opportunity to stay and hope to return to Guanajuato in the future.
I stayed for 6 days at Norma's house in the beautiful city of Guanajuato. I would stay again in a heartbeat. Norma was a wonderful host as she was pleasant, friendly, and willing to engage with me in my less than perfect Spanish(she also speaks English quite well). She is also an outstanding pianist.
The room was very large with a comfortable King Size bed. It had a wonderful view of the City from the large window. The bathroom was exceedingly nice with tiles selected from the city of Dolores Hidalgo and had a great deal of storage including drawers and space to hang clothes.
The location was great; less than a 10 minute walk to Plaza Baratillo and the Jardin(beautiful main square). The only warning is that there are a lot of stairs which I enjoyed but if have any mobility issues this is not likely a good place for you.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and it makes me eager to try more. Overall, I could not have been more satisfied with my accomodations or my host.
I had the experience to visit Norma's house. This is an incredible place, with an amazing view. The house is very clean and comfortable and she is a very nice host. I really recommend you to choose this place, you will have a wonderful experience.
I spent two weeks at House of Heaven and enjoyed every minute of my stay. Norma is a great host. She is attentive, accessible and makes sure her guests feel at home.
The house is beautiful, very spacious, clean and secure. Norma takes great pride in maintaining such a great place and it really shows. The view of town is breathtaking from each of the terraces and I spent many wonderful days and nights taking in the scenery. A 5 minute walk takes you into the center of this magnificent city, it's lively culture and historic architecture. There are many places to eat, grab coffee or just relax and watch the world go by. I especially enjoyed Antik, Santo Cafe and Truco 7 restaurant. I will definitely be back and would gladly stay at House of Heaven again.
I spent four wonderful weeks at Norma's new home in Guanajuato. Norma was a gracious host and was always ensuring that everything was going well. She even brought me along to experience some delicious local food -- tamales, tlacoyos, and more.
Her house has an excellent view on a nice property with many 100+ year old trees. I enjoyed the walk to the city each day and actually appreciated the many stairs around the city (and her property). Guanajuato is a lovely and safe city. I particularly enjoyed the street food and markets at Plaza Baratillo and Embajadores (each only a short walk away), the excellent coffeshop Cafe Tal, and the hike up La Bufa (you can reach the top within two hours walking from the house).
Overall I am quite happy with my choice to visit Guanajuato and to stay at Norma's house!
Norma was extremely helpful in making my stay in Guanajuato wonderful. She made suggestions for activities and restaurants and sites to see; she knows the city, the people, the culture/history and the transportation system. Norma teaches at University and is getting her PhD; getting her view of her country added so much to my trip. The brand new home is clean and beautiful, with a view of all of Guanajuato that rivals the view you get at the Pipila. As a 67 year old woman, I appreciated Norma's tips on staying safe. She encouraged me to take the bus, which had a stop right at her property. The long walkway and steps uphill from the street to the house was challenging, but I managed it with a couple of rests on the way up. Three locking gates up to the property made me feel safe. Norma's home is truly high enough to be in "heaven." And Norma was flexible enough to make accommodations for my needs and questions.
The view of Guanajuato from Norma's house is priceless!! The house is new, has an excellent location and Norma is an excellent hostess. Thanks for everything!
First of all, let me emphasize that our overall review is very positive.
That said, it is important to note that: we were Norma's very first guests, and I believe we might have caught her a bit off guard by booking with her 24 hours after she'd first posted her property; also, we are seasoned travelers and rent out our Casa Brava property in Sayulita, so we see things in a light that others might miss. Norma has a very stunning view home that has been completed within the last few months. The design, the construction, the details, and the fixtures are much better than the photos show; and the view is fantastic, and, again, far better than the photos.
Even better than the great property is Norma, herself. She was extremely helpful and responsive to our pre-arrival questions and during our stay, she was never more than a phone call away. She checked up on us several times a day (we were there for 6 nights) and gave us great advice about where to go and what to see. Note: You MUST ask her about the tamale lady who sells some of the most amazing tamales I've ever eaten.
The house is brand new; the kitchen, fridge, baths, are all top of the line. She's still in the process of buying the little things that make the kitchen easier to use, but every time we asked about anything, she surprised us with a new purchase the very next day.
Because Norma is new to this business and the house is brand new, she hasn't had time to include some of the usual comfort items, like reading lamps, outdoor furniture for the incredible view on the roof top (she does have the view balcony set up with chairs, table and chaise lounge).
The property is situated at the top of a view hill, which means that there is a long climb up a series of steps. We are in the 40-50 range and actually appreciated the exercise, but older folks or anyone with mobility issues might have a difficult time getting up to the house.
The buses stop at the bottom of her steps and you can get anywhere for only $5 pesos. That said, if you plan to drive to Guanajuato talk with Norma first. We hired a taxi to lead us the way ($40 pesos) and after we unpacked, we drove another 3 minutes and parked in a very secure parking garage for the rest of our stay. The city is a walking or taxi town and you won't need your car at all.
We had a terrific time in Guanajuato, loved the house and count Norma as a friend that we hope to be seeing again soon.
