We stayed in Phoenix place for about four weeks. Checking into her place was smooth. She is an excellent host. She is very friendly, helpful and flexible. When she said ' make yourself at home' she meant it. We felt as if we were staying in a good friend's place. On top of that, Cola the dog is such a sweet company. My husband loved to take her out Everyday. They became buddies.
One weekend, Phoenix made tea for us. To my Surprise! She really used the tea set and served us with teapots and cups from her decorative shelf . We thought those teasets were for displace only...In fact, Phoenix said that she used them pretty often and she also shared stories of some of the teasets she bought with us. We listened...umm...interesting!
Besides tea, Phoenix also took us to places to try various kinds of good food and deserts...mmm...Just imagine... What a treat!
We liked spending time in the sitting room, watching different water actitives in the bay; watching weather changes, tide in ...tide out...watching families and kids playing on the beach...what a beautiful motion picture.
The location is not too far away from public transportation. It Is a 15 minutes walk from the village to the bus/ minibus stop, from there you can start your adventure. For examples, to the SaiKung pier for seafood or Chose a boat trip to other nearby islands; or hop on the MTR to experience a busy crazy city life in HK ...
Phoenix has a 'how to get around' instruction sheet , it is very helpful to a new visitor to the area. Overall, we are very happy about our choice and enjoy very much this unique experience... Thank you so much Phoenix !

Check in process The first step of checking in Phoenix’s place was not totally pleasant. We clearly requested an early check-in at 8am in the morning, but Phoenix was out of town and she mis-communicated to her maid that our flight arrived at 8am, so none is available for our check-in. We called her maid right away, but she was not answering the call. We struggled with the weak cell phone signal in Sai Kung area and managed to text Phoenix after 30 minutes standing outside of the building, cold and hazy. After a long international flight, we waited more than an hour outside of her place before we got into the apartment. Saikung technicality – Transportation, telecomm and heating Phoenix provided an elaborate description of the how long it takes to get from and to the public transportation. Precisely, the pedestrian walk way is narrow, not level, involves slopes up and down. The road for vehicle is a 2-way single lane, so from time to time cars need to backup in order to let the opposite driving vehicle to get pass. As a pedestrian, you have to be careful to watch out back and forth, left and right as I saw cars were driving fast even while making sharp turns. Besides, you have to switch between pedestrian walkway by crossing the road several times within the 15 minute walk. Be prepared for the additional transportation expense in getting a taxi, when needed. The specific address written in Chinese is not well known to most of the Red Taxi drivers, and make sure to point them to drive uphill (right hand side) when approaching a nontrivial diversion. Green Taxi is OK but they cannot operate in most of the area in HK. Beware of cell phone reception in Saikung area is not guarantee for all carriers. Area is cold in December, January; heating is necessary so remember to request for it, apparently not a given. Personal belongings everywhere Without prior notice on expensive kitchen ware, we accidentally left a paint crack of about 1 inch on the edge of a lunch plate. Phoenix told us afterwards that that’s one of her favorite specialty handmade pottery collections by Nicholas Mosse. Phoenix demanded (suggested) for an exact replacement at a cost of ordering it online plus shipping internationally, the total cost of about US $100, more than 1 night stay at her place. When we reserved her place, the house rule was “You may use the kitchen provided that you clean up afterwards”. My recommendation to her is to give prior warning in her house rule, and she changed it immediately online. Honestly, her place is full of expensive and valuable items that may cost a lot and/or not able to find a replacement. Overall Phoenix’s place has a stunning water front view, and she is very responsive to inquiries. However, I do have a few recommendations for NOT: -Kids are not recommended unless their custodians are confident in disciplining -Whoever not...
Thank you Angie for your honest review. I am sorry about the unpleasant check in as I was out of town and could not have arranged it better with time difference and everything. I shall learn from the experience and manage better next time I am not around.
Despite I did not clearly state the kitchen item because new items will be added from time to time, I have specifically mentioned 'Do not break anything' in my house rules. Nevertheless, Airbnb is about another style of travel, to stay in others' home while you are away from home. I believe it is common sense to protect any properties inside others' home if others are kind enough to allow you in. I have entrusted a lot in you to accept you while I was not around. To me, even without prior warning of expensive items, it is not right to damage then ignore the responsibility to do something about it when you can. It is a tragedy that you cracked the lunch plate and do not want to replace it. Honestly, you did not just break my lunch plate. You have broken my confidence and good faith in people which I believe value much, much, much more than USD100. After this very unpleasant incident, I do not want to host any travelers again unless they can earn my trust in prior communication.
Despite all this unhappy encounters, I wish you and your family well.
This was our first airbnb experience and it was fantastic. Our hostess Phoenix was so accommodating that we truly felt like we were at a home away from home. She was a great hostess, very helpful, attentive to our needs and extremely knowledgeable. Her home was as described, the bedroom was spacious enough, the bed comfortable and the en suite bathroom was the icing on the cake. My wife and I never got tired of the view from the balcony and the lovely photo she has posted must be experienced to truly appreciate it. Her dog Cola was very loving, well behaved and a pleasure to have around. Public transportation is available at the village entrance and is easy to navigate. We spent our final evening enjoying dinner with Phoenix at a local eatery and the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend this location as it allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy the quiet village and the relaxing beach. We went as tourists and were fortunate enough to make a new friend.
Visiting Phoenix Yip in Nam Wai was a lovely experience. She was very flexible about arriving agreement. We came in the morning and were welcomed by her housekeeper. She doesn't speak English but we managed to understand each other. In the evening after her work we met Phoenix. She is a good host telling everything about the environment and the first night she took us to a good restaurant, where we almost ate every night during the week :-). The neighboorhood is a peaceful place. You can walk to the bus about 15 minutes (negative is the slope which could be difficult if you donot have good legs), and ride to Sai Kung easily. On the way back always tell the bus driver to stop at Nam Wai. On the return you have to pay less, but that was not always clear with some busdrivers, but on the other hand we talk about a difference of less than 1 euro. This is an easy and only way to find your dinner. Sai Kung is a nice place with a lot of restaurants and ferry to go to some islands around Sai Kung. With Phoenix we spoke about culture and differences, she can explain a lot about the Hong Kong people and their habits. She has a good sleeping room with your own shower and toilet and a very good bed. 1 day we stayed in the house doing nothing than reading or beach walking around the house. The house has a lovely view especially bird watchers can sit and see a lot of birds passing by. When we left Phoenix took us with her car to the nearest metro station. She helped us here because taxi's are hard to find. Also she agreed that our daughter could come over for 1 day. My daughter slept on the couch. But with the three of us we were able to do the McLehosan hiking part I en II. Thank you Phoenix for everything.
My stay with Phoenix was great and absolutely enjoyable. The preparation beforehand was very smooth and easy. Thanks to extensive and precise information how to get there no problem to find the place. This is important as the place is a bit outside. The apartment is super clean and nicely decorated. The location is fantastic, quiet, 5* sea view from the living room and balcony. And after 3 minutes walk you can enjoy a swim. if you're looking for peace and a relaxed atmosphere this is a great choice to stay. It is not difficult to get into the bustling downtown life, but it will take you around 45 min and if you're more into clubbing and shopping maybe the location is not ideal. Phoenix is a warmhearted, very welcoming, yet respectful person and anytime helpful if you need information or advice. Her dog Cola is superfriendly, quiet and very well behaved. We became friends immediately. All in all a perfect time for me, only I would have loved to stay longer. Thanks again, Phoenix. Hope to come again soon on my next trip :-)
Phoenix made us very welcome on our arrival, even speaking to the local taxi driver and guiding him to the door. Next morning, on opening the patio doors, we were struck by the view across Hebe Haven. We stayed for 14 nights and enjoyed many breakfasts sitting on this balcony. Phoenix gave us good information about getting around various parts of Hong Kong. The neighbourhood is very safe. We walked to the bus stop, about 1Km, 15 minute walk many times at all times of the day. Hong Kong transport is very efficient. The minibus takes you to the nearest MTR station in less than 10 minutes or to Sai Kung in about the same time depending very much on traffic. Overall we would recommend this apartment to anyone.
About the Host, Phoenix
I love to travel and experience local culture, not just average tourist things. Meeting local people and even staying at 'homes', not hotel is such marvelous idea. Because I become tired of chain hotel, where everywhere is more or less the same. I like uniqueness, special things to make life more interesting and colorful. I also like dancing (at present, Argentine Tango), swimming, shopping, sailing and diving. If you share similar interests, it would be lovely for me to show you and do it together.
Safety is a great concern for me despite I am willing to try different things. If I feel safe, I am easy-going, very considerate, kind and generous. I can't stand dirty & messy environment. Snake is the most frightened animal for me. I hate mean people too. I love nature and try to respect it. I often traveled alone. If I have other choice of transportation, I should definitely avoid aeroplanes.
I would highly appreciate your introduction of yourself, telling me your purpose to Hong Kong, expectation, like and dislike so that I can easily decide to accept you or not. Most important of all, please make me feel safe and comfortable letting you stay in my house.
Oh! No last minute booking please!
