Live like a local! Hayes Valley has been continuously voted one of the top neighborhoods in San Francisco for its vast array of restaurants and boutiques. The perfect place to live and even better place to visit. There is a small park just a few blocks away in the heart of the neighborhood with a biergarten, the world's most delicious ice cream stand, and a coffee bar.
Ideally located for everything in the city, but also good for commuting south as we're only 2 blocks from the entrance to the 101 freeway.
Just a step beyond Hayes Valley are some of San Francisco’s most bustling and exciting neighborhoods - walk five minutes east to the Civic Center, with the SF Opera, City Hall and several museums; ten minutes west and you’re in the heart of the Castro; and fifteen minutes south to the sunny Mission district, with its famous restaurants, murals, taquerias, and coffee shops.
All Major transit (Muni, Street Cars and Buses) are within a couple blocks from the apartment. BART is around a 15 minute walk. Very centrally located and extremely easy to get around. No car needed, but if you have one, we can provide in-building parking for an additional fee of $20/night.
Other Things to Note
The 101 freeway entrance is just 2 blocks away, giving quick access to the South Bay/Silicon Valley.
No smoking, no pets, quiet after 10 pm and before 7 am. Maximum number of guests staying overnight is firm at 4 people (unless you are a family, in which case, let's talk!). Maximum number of non-resident visitors at any one time is 2.
We could not have had a more lovely week long stay Chez Valley Upper. Lucy and Joey’s apartment is one floor of a grand home ideally located in charming Hayes Valley, close to charming restaurants and cafes and just a few minutes from the Mission, Castro, downtown, and pretty much anywhere you might like to go in San Francisco. Lucy and Joey kindly put a very comfortable Queen bed in their infant son’s room so that the apartment had two full bedrooms and was perfect for my husband and I, my brother and our two-year-old daughter, who stayed in baby Jackson’s crib. It was a real pleasure to stay in a place that was both elegant and also kid-friendly. As you can see from the photos the apartment is beautifully decorated and features a fabulous large kitchen and entertaining space, which is where we spent most of our time. There’s a great backyard that my daughter loved playing in. There’s a separate studio/bedroom downstairs that Lucy also rents on Airbnb, and the apartment upstairs is owned by friendly neighbors. Joey walked us through the apartment and how things work, and Lucy was always easily available if we had a question. Lucy even kindly let us do a late checkout to accommodate our daughter’s nap schedule. The apartment is cleaned by a professional team and is spotlessly clean. The neighborhood is absolutely ideal to consider your home base while visiting San Francisco and we feel very lucky to have stayed here for our vacation. Cannot recommend it more highly—we hope to return if Joey and Lucy are traveling again.
Gorgeous place! This place lived up to its description and photos, it was spacious, welcoming, and wonderful to come home to every night. It accommodated three people easily, with space to gather or do things on our own. Lucy was great—really helpful when we needed it, and also provided a lot of information that made us feel San-Francisco-savvy right off the hop.
She gave us several recommendations for places to check out and possible daily trips around the city. The location was perfect for getting around—walking distance from great restaurants and shops, and several transit stops. We were able to explore with ease and confidence.

British gal living in California 8 years and counting. Love my family and to travel in somewhat equal amounts :)
Recently left the daily grind of a 50+ hour work week to become CEO of Jackson Inc. (Jackson is my young son, and who am I kidding, he's totally the boss of this set-up...). We're looking to rent out our downstairs suite to make some extra income so I can keep staying home. Come on people, help a mama (and baby) out...
