Hawaiian Monarch building is located in Waikiki, close to the Convention Center. It is about 3 blocs to the beach. Ala Monana mall is nearby, as well as supermarket Don Quijote and Walmart on one side; the opposite direction is main street Kalakaua with shops and restaurants, and more beaches.
Within Waikiki the best is on foot. There is the Bus, that runs through Oahu. By the lower lobby, there is a rental place with mopeds and smart-cars. Car rentals are one block over. There is no parking assigned to the unit; it is possible to rent parking stall from the building on daily/weekly bases.
There will be a packet with house rules in the unit. The rules are rather standard, asking residents not to create excessive noise, no illegal substances, no pets, ...
Barb was a lovely host. She was prompt and easy to communicate with as well as friendly and helpful. She gave me recommendations on where to go in Waikiki and how to get there. She was also very flexible on check-in time. The studio itself is great—essentially exactly as pictured, except that the pictures don't do justice to how incredible the view is. The studio is very tastefully decorated. There is also a nice pool and hot tub in the building that I was happy to take advantage of after a long day hiking and paddleboarding. Note that while the studio is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the beach, it is not directly on the beach. This was fine for me, but those wanting to be in the middle of the tourist action/on the water would be better served at one of the beachside hotels or resorts.
We had a great experience with Barbora. She was very communicative and was there waiting for us when we arrived. She offered a lot of advice and tips for our stay, which was helpful.
The listing is spot on - photos and descriptions. The view is amazing and great to wake up to. The building felt safe and secure.
The place was spotless when we arrived (which I was impressed with, given the beach is so close and it would be so easy to fill the place with sand).
Easy 15 min walk to the beach - we liked the walk because we found lots of small hidden places to look at and eat at, which we wouldn't have found otherwise. Also an easy walk to bus stops, which makes the whole island accessible!
We would stay here again!
PS: for those who stay with Barbora, check out the little breakfast and brunch cafe near the elevators of the building. Highly recommend it.
We just stayed for one night but it was definitely worth it. Barbora was really friendly and was flexible with check-out times. In the building there is the possibility to leave the luggage for just 10 dollars as a daily flat-rate which was really helpful. The apartment is close to the beach just 15 minutes and we had a wonderful look through Waikiki :-) It was really clean and even though it's small you'll find everything to have a pleasant stay.
Barb was delightful! From beginning to end she was extremely accomodating and made us feel welcomed. She answers any questions and concerns in a prompt manner. We stayed at 3 places in Hawaii and Barb's was our most favourite. The view of the Canal is beautiful and the place had everything that we needed. It is a good size for two people. We loved the decor and windows made it breezy. It is a short walking distance to ala moana mall. If we return, we would definitely stay here again.
Checkin was very easy and the place was exactly what I was looking for. Clean with ample space and great location. I will be back in Hawaii soon and would gladly stay here again.
Great location, just about a 5 minute walk to bars & restaurants in Waikiki (we ate at Yardhouse). Studio is nice and cozy and very clean, with a strong AC unit. :) Barb was super accommodating, meeting us at the front of the hotel with the key and taking us up to the room. You might expect some party goers hanging out at the bottom of the hotel, as there's a bar and a nightclub on the bottom floor. Overall, a great experience.
We had a great time in Waikiki. The unit was small, but very comfortable and convenient to restaurants and grocery stores.
The Army Museum in nearby DeRussy Park is worth a visit ... and it is free.
Wailana Coffee Shop is a block away on Ala Moana. It is inexpensive, good and open 24-hours.
Dinner at Roy's on Lewers St was terrific.
A day-trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center is worth the time.
A very special thanks for the referral to the private shuttle Go808Express. They are very good.
