The Space

Welcome-Bienvenidos-(mira por abajo)--Willkommen

We welcome guests to share our nice and comfortable home in San Carlos, CA.
An entire area of our home is available to provide maximum privacy. We have four bedrooms, 3 queen size beds and one with a full size bed, 1 full bathroom with double sinks that only needs to be shared if other guests are present. There is a desk and chair in each of the rooms, which is great for work and study. The shared space includes our living room, with piano, well-stocked kitchen, and hot tub on patio. We have T.V. WiFi, and ample parking. We keep our house very clean. We will provide a simple breakfast with many organic items as well as teas and coffee on the weekdays. Come and enjoy our view of San Francisco Bay.

San Carlos is a cute little town in the mid-peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. From our home there is easy access to public transportation,(both Caltrain and SamTrans bus) just 4 blocks away, the local downtown full of restaurants and shops (also just 4 blocks away). Close to Hwy 101, 5 min. from Oracle, 20 min. from SFO, 30 min from SJC,, and 20 min. from Stanford. We are in Silicon Valley. Our neighborhood and town is very peaceful and safe
We will pick you up from the SFO airport (only) for a fee of $25.00.

Wife speaks Spanish and husband speaks basic Spanish and German. We enjoy meeting new people and are great hosts. Have lived abroad and traveled extensively.
We eat very healthy and exercise often, and find time to play tennis and run. Care to join us? We have been hosting guests through this site for over a year and a half and have enjoyed it tremendously. We are friendly and helpful, and our reviews speak for themselves. We are teachers and are very busy, so other meals are on your own, unless prior arrangements are made. Washer and dryer available for your use, at no extra charge. There is a small cleaning fee to cover sheets and towels.

When you make a reservation please give us your full name, and something about you and the other people coming with you, what you are expecting in the way of accommodations and anything else. If you want more than one room, you must book each room separately, since we are charging by the room. You can request bedroom one or two, on this reservation form. If you stay for a week, the 7th night is free!
(Maximum 2 people per bedroom, additional people must rent another bedroom.)
We look forward to being your hosts!

Guests have access to the living room, dining room, kitchen, patio, and of course the bathroom. We have a piano for you to play, as well.

Interaction with Guests

Upon arrival, we give our guests a full tour of the house and the things we have to offer. Bob and Johanna are here to make sure you are comfortable and have things you need to feel welcomed. We live in the back of the house and do cook often. You can cook in our kitchen as well, we just might need to talk about timing.

The Neighborhood

Our home is located in a very safe area. Its an easy walk into the town of San Carlos and we encourage you to check out the great local restaurants and coffee houses.

Getting around

Public transport is ideal from our home, as mentioned above. We do have a bicycle we can lend you if you need it.

Other Things to Note

We have the bathroom stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, as well as Q-tips. Our breakfast offerings are really healthy and tasty. They include our homemade granola, fresh fruit, milks, juices, as well as an assortment of cereals and teas, and coffee. The top shelf of our refrigerator is devoted to our guests and their breakfast items. You can also store some items in our refrigerator if you need to.

Overall Guest Satisfaction
Check In
  • Johanna and Bob were welcoming and gracious hosts. The house was clean and orderly, with a good breakfast spread provided daily. The keurig machine makes for very easy coffee in the morning. Caltrain station is only a five minute walk from the house, however, a car is useful for areas not located in Downtown San Carlos. Would highly recommend this accommodation, especially those visiting/working in SF and Silicon Valley.

  • This place was just okay.

The rooms were clean and beautifully well kept but what you don't know is that there is a single bathroom for the entire place, and it seems like they have added an extension to their place so there are six potential guestrooms, and one bathroom. A nightmare in the morning.

I booked this place for my parents to stay for a weekend. They were there with 8 other people and the place was too cramped for them. You don't know how many other guests are staying when you book. If you don't mind sharing, the location is perfect to get to SF, (website hidden), Apple, etc and it is a nice location with plenty of parking.

I did feel like Johanna was interrogating me as I dropped my parents off that first day during the walk through. My impression was that this is a house converted to sort of a hostel. Except unlike a hostel, you have to go through the 3rd degree.

    Response from Johanna And Bob:

We hosted Glory's parents and the only time we had contact with Glory was when she dropped them off, since she did not stay here. I was making polite conversation with Glory upon her arrival and did not intend to seem like I was interrogating her. We feel it's important to give a clear, concise tour of our home so everyone feels comfortable. There were no other comments from her or her parents during their stay and we posted a reminder about the use of the bathroom, and if in a time crunch, to please let all know. Glory's parents also had a small child, which is 3 to the one room, and not generally what we prefer. Our house was much busier than normal and we will watch how many bookings we make in the future. Some family friends also surprised us and joined us here, since they too were on vacation, which did add to the number of people in the house. We do not run a hotel or a hostel, but our home is meant to be a welcoming place to stay. At the end of the visit, there unfortunately was a communication breakdown as to which airport they needed to be transported to. Her parents never informed us as to which airport they were going to, and since we have 3 airports in the area, the location they wanted to go to during rush hour was not something we were able to accommodate. We have since clarified this issue on our listing. This was Glory's parents first time in an Airbnb location and perhaps they had different expectations. Since they seemed to prefer more privacy and be more pampered, a hotel might be a better selection next time. We are now discovering from our first time Airbnb guests that they seem to expect a hotel atmosphere, but our home is meant to be more relaxed, yet clean and comfortable. We are happy to have first time guests, as well as seasoned guests, and we hope they come with the understanding that we are sharing our home with you. Therefore, flexibility is required for everyone, including us.

  • I was very comfortable staying with Johanna and Bob. They were great hosts and very welcoming. Their home is lovely and the lodging was perfect. The location was minutes from my destination and easy access to freeways and public transportation.

  • We are returning guests and specifically asked to be able to come back to Johanna and Bob's home.

The bed is comfortable and there was space for me to set up my big monitor during my stay. I got lots of work done.

The place is close enough to CalTrain that it was easy to catch a train and ride into the city each day.

We appreciate Johanna and Bob's hospitality and if we find ourselves needing to stay at a place again, would happily call them.

They have some food available for breakfast and on occasion they cooked/provided some home made breads. I especially loved the pumpkin bread/cake they made. Mmmm, a little butter and it made my day.

We highly recommend their place if you need somewhere to stay near San Carlos.

  • Johanna was a great and a very kind host. I think her place was one of the most cozy place I ever stayed in at Airbnb. Extremely clean and neat house with a delicious breakfast every morning. You know these folks have traveled around the world. World class bed-n-breakfast.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Johanna and Bob and can only recommend them as hosts. We received valuable tips during our first days in California and enjoyed interacting with them. They are both very friendly, welcoming, and helpful people. The house was very comfortable and nicely decorated. We enjoyed the European-style breakfasts and good coffees. San Carlos is a beautiful place to live. The house is located in a nice residential area, which, however, is very close to the downtown that has plenty of restaurants and cafes.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Johanna and Bob. The room was very comfortable and breakfast was very enjoyable and healthy. Johanna and Bob are a lovely couple with whom we enjoyed chatting. The location was perfect for us with a car as the 101 was very close and meant we could very quickly get to the city, SFO airport and valley locations. Having a full house meant you had to be mindful of time in the bathroom but overall the system worked pretty well. We would thoroughly recommend a stay.

We are two teachers who have grown children that are now out on their own, out of the house. We have a comfortable and simple home to invite others to enjoy. We are very active playing tennis, running and exercising, cooking gourmet meals and traveling. We have traveled extensively all over the world and have lived abroad as well. Johanna loves to travel in Spanish speaking countries and Bob enjoyed teaching English in China. Johanna speaks fluent Spanish and Bob enjoys speaking basic Spanish and German. Bob is now studying anthropology and Johanna hopes to become a professional chef after teaching. Bob is an avid reader, especially history, and Johanna loves Latin music . Since we have stayed often in Bed and Breakfasts, we know its important to have privacy as well as simple comforts and nice accommodations. We are new to this idea of opening our home to others but AirBnB comes recommended.
