Response from Annie:

I feel the need to clarify a lot of things with this review and have been in contact with an Airbnb representative who has encouraged me to respond. I will agree that some things did not go according to plan, which unfortunately is our fault because we have three full time work schedules. Yes, if the description was read prior to booking then this awful experience would have been avoided. The cat issue I cannot avoid, this is their home which it very clearly states in the description but we do thoroughly clean the house prior to guests visiting.

We live in this home which I clearly stated, which means yes there will be food in the refrigerator, the "dirty dishes" (it was a flower vase and one glass) were clean and on the drying rack. That being said I tried to keep the lines of communication open as much as I could and assist them to their many needs. I was very prompt at responding to every single message that was sent, from letting them know exactly how things worked in the house, to how to turn on the TV and just general joking around trying to be friendly with Malika.

However, the constant demands for a plethora of face towels, regular sized towels etc when we provided several sets upstairs caused you to go into our personal cabinets and use a total of 10-15 towels (meanwhile the ones we provided upstairs stayed untouched). Upon their leaving I found a disposable undergarment + the wrappers under the bed. In addition, clearly the no smoking in the house rule (which is also in the description) went out the window. I walked in to check in on the cats replace their food/leave immediately Saturday morning and found two blunts on my kitchen table, handles of alcohol, chicken laying on the stove, the trash overflowing and fruit juice spilled all in complete plain sight. There was also clearly an additional third guest which we were unaware of, which violates our additional guest charge policy. Kelsey, the roommate, even found candles burning in the house when nobody was there.

I do very much appreciate that at check out time when I came in to start laundry/trash cleanup process that this was mostly cleaned up, especially the room that Malika stayed in, was in excellent condition. While Malika was a very nice an polite person, our interactions unfortunately were tainted by her original guest who was anything but respectful from the moment I greeted them. To put it nicely, several of the comments said directly to my face was not reassuring that I was trusting my home and hospitality to these two women.

Overall I say that this was a well needed learning experience. I am offended by this review when the actions of the guests themselves were anything but pristine. Honesty is the best policy and while they gave us very good pointers for our next booking, I would advise that they be truly honest with themselves about their actions before blasting my home and blatantly failing to abide by any house rules.
