Rent a bedroom in a beautiful 1926 craftsman style home that is only three blocks from Duke's East Campus as well as a short walk to Durham's 9th Street area, which offers many restaurants and shops to entertain while visiting Durham. There is also a Whole Foods within walking distance for any groceries you might need. They also offer an amazing breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet for a quick meal. A bit of a longer walk (or short bike ride) brings you downtown and to the popular Brightleaf district, which has some of the most amazing restaurants in the south!
Go to the farmer's market and use the kitchen to make a delicious dinner at home, hang out and read a book or just use our home as a base for exploring the area or visiting Duke (and the gorgeous Sarah Duke Gardens!). You will love it here- Durham is fantastic!
We have a lot of extra blankets and pillows to make yourself comfortable during your stay and our kitchen is equipped with everything you could need. You will have a bedroom to yourself, as well as easy access to a bathroom (that has the washer/dryer in it) and will share all of the other main living areas. A large porch in the front encourages lounging and the back yard is always available to relax in or play a round of croquet. Street parking is always available and there is no time restriction to parking there.
You will be sharing the house with us: two grad students and our lovable- sometimes a bit rambunctious- hypoallergenic mutt, Banjo (a Labradoodle), and our cat, Luna, who likes to keep to herself, so you probably won't even know she is around.
If you are interested in staying at our place, please contact me before booking (and wait for a response) to verify availability. Thank you!

Look no further. This place and its hosts are amazing, I don't know another way to put this. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this beautiful and stylishly decorated house and garden. The bedroom was spacious, everything clean and comfortable (includes, amongst other things: coat hangers, desk, extra pillows and blankets etc., and was heated perfectly during my winter stay). The bathroom (accessible via the common living and dining room) has everything one needs (great shower!) and even has washing and drying machines I was glad to be able to use. This place is in a very good location to explore Durham and go to east campus, the neighbourhood is lovely (I felt safe at night). Jeff is a great guy (Sara was not there when I visited, but I'm sure she is lovely too) - we had a lot of fun together. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, it could not have been better.
My trip had to be cancelled due to bad weather but Jeff and Sarah have been amazing to communicate with. I hope to return next time. Highly recommend them! All best. Katharina
It was nice meeting you. I had a good time staying at your place. The room was perfectly in order.
Sorry, could not get the opportunity to say good bye to you, as I left quite a bit early in the morning.
Hope to see you soon!
Jeff and Sara's place was perfect! Immaculate and comfortable, walking distance to Whole Foods and Duke's east campus. I would definitely stay there again.
I spent almost three months at Sara&Jeff’s house while carrying out a research stay at UNC. Everything was very fluent from the beginning and, once there, I felt immediately at home. Jeff is a really nice person (I did not meet Sara personally, but in her emails she seemed nice as well), has an endless patience (sometimes, I am very clumsy) and is always willing to help, something that is appreciated when you just get to a place you do not know.
With regard to the house, it has everything I needed for my stay. Besides the obvious things, it offers a peaceful atmosphere (useful when working on my thesis), but also (thanks to Jeff) the necessary dose of socialization to not go crazy. It is well communicated; there is a bus stop close and you can easily walk to downtown, the bus station and Duke (East Campus is about five minutes). Moreover, besides the Whole Foods Market, while being there, a Harris Teeter (grocery store) was open, so you have different options to buy everything you need without driving.
This has been my first Airbnb experience and I think it could not have been better. In fact, if I have the opportunity to go back to Durham, I would like to stay here again.
We needed a place close to Duke's East Campus and this was just the ticket. Great hosts, a charming house and a very nice room. We really appreciated the convenience and the home-like feel. Highly recommended!
A cozy, inviting, and private room where we slept fabulously! The house is in an excellent location, and the hosts are great, providing recommendations for restaurants and things to do. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend it.
Sarah and Jeff were so welcoming! They gave great suggestions of things to see/places to eat around Durham. The house is ADORABLE and so comfortable - a wonderful place to still feel cozy and at home, while being away from home.
Great place to stay while I was doing research at Duke's library. An easy 10 minute walk to the East-West campus shuttle, and also a 10 minute walk to Whole Foods. I didn't have a car or bike, but I was fine walking around everywhere. Sara and Jeff are super friendly and made me feel at home. The room is comfortable, cozy, and cute. I also really appreciated being able to use the kitchen and laundry during my 2.5-week stay. Thanks again!
We loved staying with Sara and Jeff in Durham! They were awesome hosts and we'd recommend staying with them during your next trip to the area! The house was very clean and in a perfect location (near Duke and other local points of interest). This was our first Airbnb stay and it couldn't have been better.
