Very clean, open air space, in an environment and home design that captures the essence of the true beauty & experience of Costa Rica.
RENTAL INCLUDES UNLIMITED WIFI & LOCAL CALLING........Print out a copy of the House Manual below for instructions on how to use phone & washing machine.
Very safe and secure property with security cameras, host & trusty guard dog onsite. This is a country retreat tucked into the coastal foothills, so a rental car is recommended to see and do the most during your vacation. Taxis, buses is an option for those of you not in a rush, and have time to explore, but it is not a very convenient way to travel in this rural region .
This Oasis is in the heart of hundreds of acres of ranch land, on the rural outskirts of the sleepy little town of Matapalo... This little reserve known as Monte Grande is where the monkey's, exotic birds, iguanas and other animals live freely. There are private hiking trails throughout the property that leads to a breath taking ocean viewpoint ideal for watching the sunsets. There are lush gardens surrounding the pool to assure a comfortable, cool, shady, pretty place to just chill & relax, which is the most important activity to do here.
This is the perfect place for an affordable, blissful vacation to share with family and friends.
A helpful tool is the HOUSE MANUAL listed below. Please print out a copy and bring it with you for; suggested tours, driving directions to the must see beaches, Daniel's top suggested restaurants, and how to operate certain mechanics in the house, as well as what to do in case of an emergency. Print out a copy and bring it with you.
Host onsite, available 24/7 for emergencies, and 9am - 9 pm for anything else.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little the guest requires. Most people come here for peace, quiet and privacy, so we respect that and try to stay out of site as much as possible, but for the social guests we are happy to visit.
The neighborhood consists of birds, bees, monkeys, iguanas, and cows & horses in the pastures below. The closest neighborhood 'Barrio Monte Grande' starts 700 meters away.
4x4 is recommended in costa rica in general, more so here. The host has a normal car, but also a lot of experience driving on these roads. Most guests are visiting for a short time, so a rental car is recommended, and we do get discounted rates with our preferred rental car agency, and that is something we can help you with immediately after a reservation has been made. If you are not in a hurry, you have patience, time buses and taxis are available within a 10 minute walk to the house. Taxis can come to the door.
Other Things to Note
If a rustic cabin in the woods, and a true costa rica experience is something that appeals to you, this is the perfect vacating getaway for you. If you want in all-inclusive luxury resort, this affordable, jungle estate is probably not for you.
- Be green; turn off lights, fans, coffeemaker when you leave the room. Use your towels more than once, and don't waste water during the dry months.
- Washing machine operates differently than what you might be accustom to. It can only handle 10 pounds of laundry at a time.
- Casa Bambu can be dangerous for small children, so keep an eye out for them going up / down stairs, on the balcony's and in or around the pool.
- Friendly Watch dog is onsite, but can be removed at any time, or tied up during the day if you wish.
- This is a destination retreat. A rental car is highly recommended.
Our experience in Casa Bambu was fabulous! Such a magnificent structure and adventurous setting to stay in. Wished we had longer- the Casa Bambu estate was at a great location- enough away from the busy touristic hub of Tamarindo but close enough to great restaurants and quiet white sand beaches.
The pool was cleaned everyday and provided a perfect evening to relax and have a bbq. Daniel was really helpful- his blog really detailed and thorough. We felt really privileged to be so close to the to and fro of wildlife, the hum of insects at night lulled us into a deep, comfortable sleep.
One of our most unique and favourite stays with Air bnb. Thanks Daniel for making a part of our honeymoon so memorable!
We just returned from 9 days at Casa Bambu. It was everything we expected and we loved every minute of it. The property was beautiful and watching the sunset up the hill from Casa Bambu was magnificent. Our host Daniel was the best. Friendly, welcoming, always asking if we needed anything. His online blog was so helpful. My husband and I did about 90 percent of the things that Daniel suggested. We loved the restaurants with the authentic food and the people at the restaurants were so happy we were there. We had a ball going to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National park and his suggestion to go to the hot springs was one of our favorites. Zip lining was great. Getting up in the morning and swimming in the beautiful pool started our day off perfect to go to a different beach each day that were so close. If you're looking for a real Costa Rican experience, get in touch with Daniel right away and book Casa Bambu. What a peace filled restful time we had!
We spent five nights at Casa Bambu and got easily attached to waking up in the morning with budding flowers on the big trees that reached the bedroom window. The hammock and outdoor eating areas are a great touch, and Hunter (the most dog-like cat I've ever met), Loca and Machete (actual dogs) will keep you company as long as you like. Daniel is a truly wonderful host, and he steered us right with every tip in the manual and was quick to text us back when we had any questions. We highly, highly recommend the hot springs at Rincon de la vieja (although make sure you get an updated GPS--we had an old one and it made the trip an hour longer), Playa Conchal, and all the other beaches he recommends. The cell phone--which can work as a wifi hotspot if you need internet--is an extremely thoughtful touch, above and beyond.
Tips: Bring bug spray (I got bitten up pretty badly), get used to and enjoy various critters all over the place (a translucent, tiny frog sitting on the plastic bag that my shampoo was in outside the shower!), and bring ear plugs (barking dogs and some construction, although I'm sure this is temporary) if you're sensitive to noise. As everyone else has said: you truly need a 4x4. The roads are bumpy, rocky affairs, but it's worth it.
Warning: It is so quiet hear, things may seem louder than they appear, hahahaha :-p
Construction we finished last week and it was over 200 yards away, through the jungle, also where the dogs patrol, so unless you are very sensitive, no problem. Lainie asked if we could start the noisy stuff later in the morning which we did, so ..... ????
Mosquito season is June - October, so again, unless you are very sensitive, not really needed in the dry season. Lainie mentioned Rincon (my favorite place too), which is a different eco-system and bug spray would be needed there all year round, probably where she got bug bites, because on the estate during the dry season, not so much.
The place is one of a kind. It was as described. Very private and quiet. The pool is fantastic. We didn't use the Internet or television. Additional entertainment was not necessary. I spent most of my time relaxing on the deck. Great view.
I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and rustic environment. This was my first airbnb experience, I enjoyed the private pool, and dirt trails with numerous beaches nearby,... I enjoyed preparing meals at the casa bambu. Get creative with home cooked meals using the resources available. The rooms, interior and exterior was as I had expected. We felt like home. The washing machine was out of service during our stay and wifi was not always available, however, Daniel did what he could to make that service available to us for the remainder of our stay. I think it's great that a Samsung phone is even provided to begin with, it's a bonus not a necessity! It's a nice thought that this is being provided! Daniel made himself available as was necessary to see how we enjoyed our stay.
Our stay couldn't have been better!
There was plenty of space and the description online clearly matched what we found on the property.
My favorite amenity was the sparkling pool for morning swims and the outdoor seating area for morning coffee or a late night cocktail.
Truly an excellent value for what is being offered here.
If you like animals, there are also some friendly pets that can be found. THe owner can remove them or let them be. We enjoyed their limited company and took some great pictures with them.
We will def stay again when returning to CR.
We heard about Daniel’s jungle house after chatting with a stranger who showed us the Air BnB listing, and booked a trip to Costa Rica just to stay at this house. We have to warn you that once you stay here you will not want to leave the house, for the day, or ever. We had plans to take day trips, go zip-lining, take surf lessons, but we basically never wanted to leave the house. We would wake up in the morning to the sound of birds outside our window, or sometimes monkeys, make some Costa Rican coffee and sit at the kitchen bar, read on the hammock, have beers by the pool, drink wine on the deck, and later fall asleep with the windows open to the sound of the wind. It really doesn’t get any better than that. The place is perfectly comfortable, and peaceful, and you really feel like you’re living in a jungle but not roughing it.
The house itself is beautiful with everything you need from a kitchenette, laundry, tv, radio, phone (for both wifi and calls), guidebooks, AC (never used because the weather was perfect), hammocks, etc. Next to the pool is a pool house with a bathroom and fridge and sink so you can store all your drinks and snacks there and not have to walk up to the house. (Pool is even cleaned daily!) Daniel has a dog that stops by to say hello and naps next to you if you want him to, and an adorable kitten that sleeps outside the house and keeps the insects and lizards away from the house.
The location of the house and the property itself is wonderful. It feels completely secluded, but you’re just minutes away from anything you need from a grocery store to restaurants and beaches. Daniel gives you all the information you need for the best restaurants , best beaches, and best tours/activities. We tried as many of his recommendations as we could and they were all thumbs up, especially Soda Las Tunas, and El Huerto.
Definitely read through this listing for the house info to see if it’s for you because everything the host describes of the house and the photos is 100% accurate. Listen to him about renting a car with 4 wheel drive. You need it. Last but not least, Daniel is a fantastic host. He gives you so much info to get the full Costa Rican experience and is just an awesome guy to chat with. (He’ll even text you to tell you there are monkeys near his house if you want to come by and see them). Someone is always within reach to help you with any questions you have or anything you need. We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a fun, laid-back, comfortable, and peaceful place to stay.

I am from Colorado, and have been living in Costa Rica since 2004. Most of the time I can be found in the guesthouse on my jungle estate, enjoying the relaxing lifestyle, and attending to my guests.
