The Space

Gorgeous, quiet and spacious loft in the heart of the west village. Hollywood regency flair resplendent with damask wallpaper, velvet couch and leather tufted chairs. The kitchen is large enough for 2 people to cook and has a 6 person dining room table for dinner parties. The living room includes a desk with room for laptops, a 52" flat screen TV with a DVD player that streams netflix, 2 leather chairs and a large couch. The building is located off bustling 6th avenue, but our location as a courtyard side/non-street side apartment makes the place very quiet by NYC standards. (We do provide earplugs and a white noise machine for sensitive guests who are not accustomed to hearing city sounds). Three windows look out to a tree lined courtyard, as well as a skylight in the kitchen and a huge wall of windows in the upstairs loft looking straight up 6th Ave to the Empire State Building.

The upstairs loft is full of color, moroccan lamps and a view that cannot be beaten. Wall to wall velvet curtains can darken the bedroom, and similar wall to wall curtains line the living room and dining areas. However, waking up to a sun filled bedroom, clouds over your head and a view of the city can be a wonderful experience.

This is a walkup of 2 flights of stairs, with an additional flight of stairs inside the apartment to enter the loft. Someone will meet you for initial check-in and can help with luggage. (We regret that the building is not accessible and would not recommend it for those who would have a difficult time navigating stairs). The building is quiet with only 4 other tenants. The neighborhood is classic village, blocks from the 14th and 4th street subways, Washington Square Park and Greenwich Village. Food, music, clubs and parks are all around you. Whatever your needs, the stores in the immediate vicinity will provide. We will also provide you (email hidden) of the closest and most useful places.

Finally, for those who like to exercise, there is an elliptical machine, kettlebells and yoga mats for you to keep in shape while gorging on delicious New York foods.

  • Loved Laine's place. Everything was great. Would definitely return.

  • This was as promised - a very sweet place located centrally, within walking distance of various subway stations, grocery stores, etc. Looks JUST like in the pictures, super-cute. The kitchen is awesome, gas range, full complement of spices, the works. Wireless worked. All good! The only thing I'd warn about is that the air conditioners are loud - as I think the description states - which totally worked for me, I've never slept so well - total sleep-inducing white noise. Did not work for my cousin with whom I was sharing the space. So... know thyself.
Oh, and the whole process of being received / checked in was really smooth and friendly; and the property manager was super-responsive, patient and kind with my texts with questions.
Overall, as described, and I recommend!

  • Great location and a nice apartment, just as the pictures tell! We were met by a very nice host, who told us everything we needed to know. The neighborhood was great, and the subway was only a couple of minutes away when we wanted to see other parts of New York. The air condition was a bit noisy, but we had no problem sleeping through it! There was a problem with the TV channels, but it was anyway not a big deal for us.

  • I can't add a lot to what else has already been posted. It's an exceptional place in the West Village. It feels precisely as advertised. It's incredibly welcoming to return to after long day doing whatever it is you're doing in NYC. It's also remarkably quiet, considering its proximity to a school, 6th Ave, and the general New York-ness of its location.

It's not for everyone. But it might be perfect for you. The loft stairs require a bit of panache to manage. The building entry is narrow and it's a good stair climb to 3rd floor location. Laine's taste is impeccable, but if you require a certain level of familiarity and convention, go ahead and spend the money on your favorite loyalty program hotel in Midtown or something. The rest of us will enjoy feeling like neighborhood regulars for a few glorious days.

  • Location, location, location!!! Loved the flat and the fantastic location - everything you need and then some around the corner. Surprisingly little noise from the street, considering that it's on 6th Ave, but the air vents from the downstairs shops and other air-condition units were extremely noisy (does shut off btw midnight and approx. 7 am, but still). Was met by super nice caretaker.

  • This has to be the coolest decorated apartment I have seen in NYC! I even wish the furniture and decorations said where they're from. It was extremely comfortable and spacious, only a 1.5 flights up. The view from the loft is incredible! Meeting to get the keys was super easy. I could not recommend it more highly!

  • Had a great time in NYC! The loft was a perfect place to stay. It was very comfortable & quiet. The perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring. It was located in the heart of west village. We would love to come back!

  • Great location, but the floor and loft shake from the heating system. The t.v. didn't work and was told someone would come fix it. NOT GOOD FOR PEOPLE WITH SLEEPING PROBLEMS! I told them this and was assured that I would be able to sleep and I didn't. Very steep stairs.

    Response from Laine:

We are terribly sorry to hear about this discomfort during a stay at our West Village apartment. Colleen indicated upon her arrival that she has sleeping problems and requires absolute quiet when she sleeps (something that we wish she had disclosed before renting so we could caution her about the steam heat in our building which does produce an audible hiss when it first turns on). At that time, she did not indicate that she needed us to take any action to deal with the issue. As we did not receive any further communication from her during her stay, we assumed that she had no further issues. We have never had someone complain about the noise level in the apartment before, but will update our profile to disclose potential noises as well as make earplugs available upstairs for our more sensitive guests.

As we indicated in our profile, we are up two flights of stairs and the loft is also located up stairs. We always offer to assist guests in bringing their luggage up the stairs for this reason. We are sorry that though Erin brought your bags up the stairs, they continued to bring you discomfort!

We were able to restore our cable after a temporary disruption that unfortunately occurred during Colleen's stay. We appreciate your feedback, Colleen, so we can continue to provide a beautiful, comfortable place to stay!
