About This Listing
Your private bedroom with house access.
I am lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Do you want to share it with me? I live in a old stone house with quiet gardens, and a lovely sea view. This listing is for a stay in my cabin, just a few steps from the house. With this listing, you will have free use of the house for internet, tv, etc. And even the kitchen to make your own dinners. Cocktails and a picnic on the patio should suit most everyone.
Details: I am an American ex-pat who has lived here for 14 years.
One more thing, or perhaps two alerts. (1) I am an owner of cats and dogs, if you are allergic to them, my house will not suit you. (2) I am a smoker. The house is well-ventilated and I do not smoke indoors when hosting guests, but I recognize that this may present an obstacle to your enjoyment.
For a cabin stay, I offer a traditional continental breakfast featuring local cheese, jams, and breads.
You will be able to treat the whole main house as your own and have the cabin as your bedroom. You will share the bathroom with me and any other guests. Please see my other listing for house photos. tps:(website hidden)
Interaction with Guests
I am almost always present or a phone call away,
This neighborhood is on the western edge of the island, just a short distance from the Ferraria, Sete Cidades, Mosteiros etal.
Most of my guests have had rental cars, but it isn't really necessary. There is public transportation which stops just outside the house and I have had guests who successfully combined this with walking and hitchhiking.
Other Things to Note
Sorry, I do not accept children.
Just follow the Golden Rule.
Susan is a great person. She made a big effort to make us feel like in our own home in spite of her cold :) Her house is charming and full of personality and her pets improved our stay even more. It's a place completely appealing if you want a peaceful holidays enjoying the nature.
I stayed with my friend in Susan's cosy rustic cabin for 3 days and it was like living in a Jane Austin's novel :) not only for the beautiful landscapes of Azores but also for the colorful cottage of Susan who is a very kind and respectful host. She gave us useful information on how to travel around the island and enjoy the beauty of lakes, what time is the law tide and best time to go to the "warm ocean" Ferraria (go there!) and a lot more :) She 's owner of two cats and one young cute doggie Percy ..just be careful of his love :D he likes to jump and give his love to you and also likes the slippers but he's little puppy (don't leave them for him ;) Also the shower is outside of the house so you have to go through Susan's house to get there..but could be nice in sommer when's really warm..and there is garden with seaview :) we recommend her cabin for young and adventurous people who love pets ;) we enjoyed the stay, thank you :)
We had a very nice stay in Susan's cabin. The location is incredible, with unbelievable views of the ocean and surrounding countryside. It is also a great jumping off point for exploring the gorgeous western part of the island, and even a day trip to Furnas by car was totally doable.
Susan and her house are charming, and her three gardens are lovely. The cabin is as described - rustic but comfortable. It was quite noisy, and if you're coming earlier in the season it might get very cold (though Susan provided us with lots of beautiful homemade quilts in order to stay warm). Just be aware that her dog is very high energy, jumping and barking a lot. He's cute, but still young and difficult to control.
Susan is a very charming person, who took care of me very well. The cabin is furnished with the basics and being not in the house made it easy to leave and come home without disturbing her. The cabin is for the wooden construction clean and well ventilated, so no stiff air or any kind of fungus smell at all. I found the location a useful starting point for walks and hiking all around the western area of Sao Miguel. Even it was close to the shortest day of the year, I did daywalks like: to Mosteiros and return, a full crater-edge walk around Sete Cidades, a half crater-walk and down to the village, as well as several times to Ferraria (a 45 Min. walk). For longer walks or going out, it was very good to have the bus-stop directly in front of the house, right there. Susan shared the whole house and the other places around with me and made me really feel at home. The kitchen is good equipped and the garden with the sunset view was wonderful.
Thanks Susan for the great time!
We stayed with Susan for 2 days. The description on this site of herself and the house is very accurate. The cabin was very comfortable, it felt a bit like a fairy house! Her garden has a lovely view of the sea and the outside shower was a nice surprise. We had to get used to all the sounds of the island, birds, dogs, cats, cows etc - great to be out of the city! The house is walking distance from the centre of the town, so you don’t need a car if you’re just exploring that side of the island. Susan was also very helpful in guiding us with the public transport – there’s a bus that stops right outside her house, and although not that frequent it does take you where you need to be. I think her place is very well priced, so it was a good option for us for the couple of days.

About the Host, Susan
Me: partly kooky, partly intellectual, partly creative. I don't know what to say. I am old enough to have gray hair and wrinkles but refuse to lose my sense of wonder and enjoyment of life.
I am American, but have lived in the Azores for almost 15 years, and from here I can look out at the sea from one garden and up to the volcano from another. I have a rottweiller named Fluffie who shares my bed at night with one or more of my cats.
I am a widow, a mother, a grandmother. I make patchwork, am involved in the local theater groups, and enjoy every moment in my adopted home.
