Location, location, location. That is why our guests love to make our home their get-a-way mountain retreat. Our historic house is ON TOP OF Mount Nebo, in the state park at SUNRISE POINT, with panoramic views to the E and S.

Mt. Nebo soars 1,350 feet above the AR River Valley, known for its natural beauty, wildlife, and world-class biking and hiking trails. Fishing, rafting, canoeing, local wine tours, art and balloon festivals are nearby. For most of us, however, we just relax.

The space
Sunrise Point on Mount Nebo, is the furthest SE point on top of the mountain. As the name implies, it is the lookout for sunrises to the East -and in the Fall you can also see sunsets in the SW. We have bluffs on two sides, with surrounding large yards, screened porches, and patios to view nature all around.

Our Main Cabin is "authentic", over 120 years old, so please understand this. We love it dearly, as to us, it's generations of love. It has its foibles, but we try to make it clean, comfy, and fully-stocked for your enjoyment. The bath fixtures and farmhouse kitchen sink are old; bed linens are new and high quality.

We guarantee you will see lots of deer, hummingbirds, Daddy Long legs (friendly spiders that love Mt Nebo), plus other wildlife you may or may not enjoy.

This year's residents include bunnies, road runners, and an armadillo. In previous years we have had an assortment of foxes, raccoons, possums, and one skunk - Thank heavens the skunk did not stay!

The owner has two cats which stay in the main cabin often during the summer. So, if you are allergic to cats, we are sorry, but you will be happier someplace else. You are an honored guest, but our cats are family, and Bengals rule!

Sunrise Point is a launching spot for hang gliding enthusiasts. So, we welcome you to use our home if it is convenient for you for your flights.

Two bike trails (one easy, one hard) and hiking trails are accessible - literally - right outside our door.

14 miles of world-class, Monument bike trails are new to Mount Nebo, so we welcome biking enthusiasts. Either bring your own or rent bikes nearby. We can provide referrals.

'The Space' for this rental property is our 'Main Cabin' - our entire house -located on 3 blocks of the very best property on Mount Nebo. Full details are provided in the next section, entitled, 'Guest Access'.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home we call the Main Cabin, a private residence on top of Mount Nebo at the SE end of the mountain, plus access to its surrounding yards with panoramic valley views.

The Main Cabin rental includes one large guest bedroom, screened-in porches, enclosed large den/TV/ indoor dining area with views to the E and S, fully-stocked kitchen and one bathroom. Guests also have access to the surrounding outdoor areas with various chaise loungers, couches, sun umbrellas, several dining tables, charcoal and gas grills and a fire pit.

You have access to the entire house except the back master/ storage area which is shut off from the rest of the house and will not be occupied during your rental.

The guest bedroom in the Main Cabin has beds for four people, with it's own separate entrance from the front porch. It contains one full bed and two twin beds. Please let me repeat that this room sleeps FOUR, as we always receive requests to add headcount. As long as you understand this, we have floor mattresses, extra bedding, an indoor hammock and loungers which can be used. There is also outdoor camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, pumps, lanterns, chaises, tree hammocks, etc.) that you are welcome to use. Children, especially, like the camping option.

I set the maximum guests at 6 due to realistic bed count, as I believe the Airbnb counts are misleading. If you have a special circumstance, please don't hesitate to ask, and discuss extras with me before booking, so we can be sure to accommodate you comfortably. The second cabin we call Razorback Ridge will sporadically be available for guests too. Just ask when you know your dates.

We love having families enjoy Mount Nebo, but we are not party central, so no loud parties are permitted on this private property. The Park Rangers would run us off the mountain! But they would gladly rent you the state park Pavilion for raucous celebrations and a crowd. :-) We do love weddings, however, and are happy to host you here, within the guidelines of Airbnb and the park.

Yard parking is available at our Main Cabin, plus there is parking for RV's across the street to the North for extra large campers and hang gliders.

The East front porch has a hammock; North side screened-in porch a seating area with small couch, chairs, end tables, etc. which would easily seat eight.

The den (glassed-in with 12 sets of windows looking East and South) includes two large easy chairs, one lounger, one small two-seater couch, five chairs with game table, tv, internet, fire credenza . . .

The indoor dining table seats six adults. Two large outdoor dining tables seat up to 8 each. Also outside are two smaller round tables and chairs which seat four each, 4 chaise lounges, a couch which seats 6, cushions, sun umbrellas, side tables - all amenities for enjoying the views. Also outside are a fire pit, charcoal and gas grills, other seating nooks, outdoor partyware, etc.

There is a separate screened-in back porch (as of now-June, 2022 in dire need of new screens thanks to a raccoon family that we re-homed). We use this as a back entry/ overflow area for bikes, coolers, barbeque supplies, etc.

As referenced above, camping is permitted in our yard for those who wish it. We provide camping equipment or you can bring your own. Just "show up", and we can provide all the equipment you will need. This option is popular for parents who prefer to stay indoors but allow their older children to camp nearby. It's also popular for folks who want to camp outside, enjoying the unique views off our bluffs, but like having access to a restroom and shower.

Mount Nebo State Park offers 14 plus miles of hiking trails, 44 miles of new, world-class biking trails for riders of all levels (Monument Trails), tennis courts, baseball field, playgrounds, swimming pool in the summer, public bath house, pavilion for large parties, mail drop-off for USPS, Visitors' Center with snacks, guidebooks, local produce like honey, soaps, tee-shirts and souvenirs. The VC sells ice and firewood. Details about Mt. Nebo are offered at the Arkansas State Parks website.

The closest grocery store is Walmart Supercenter, in Dardanelle, at the base of the mountain.

Kroger, another Walmart, and a wider selection of stores are available in neighboring, much larger town Russellville, home of Arkansas Tech college.

Please note that Yell county is dry, so bring your liquor with you if you are so inclined. Alcoholic beverages are served in many Russellville restaurants now, however.

Please note that guests with confirmed reservations will have access via Airbnb to our electronic House Manual. This guide will include directions to the closest liquor stores, shopping, restaurant and tourist information, as well as detailed driving and check-in directions. There is also a hard-copy, printed House Manual in the bottom cabinet by the kitchen back door, plus trail maps, brochures and books re Mount Nebo, State Parks and events in our region.

Other things to note
Razorback Ridge - decorated obnoxiously with all Razorback items - GO HOGS! - is a tiny cabin twenty-two steps in back of the Main Cabin. RR serves as our office, laundry and art studio. RR has its own sink, hot water, dorm fridge, microwave, coffee facilities and cable television. If Owner is not in residence, RR is available as a separate Airbnb rental, and can be used as an add-on for larger groups to sleep 1-2. Please be reassured that we do not rent Razorback Ridge to outsiders if the main cabin is leased - i.e. there would be no shared areas with others outside your party.

Neighborhood highlights

The Airbnb published address is incorrect, but their website will not let me edit it. Confirmed guests will be provided with our exact address on Sunrise Point ON TOP OF Mount Nebo State Park. The street is Sunrise CIRCLE, not Sunrise COVE as written on Airbnb.

Besides the amenities listed for Mount Nebo State Park, the Arkansas River (water sports and fishing) and Lake Dardanelle (bass tournaments) are at the base of the mountain.

Close by are the Holla Bend Wildlife Refuge, Mount Magazine and Petit Jean state parks, Arkansas Tech.

Some guests like to take day trips to the Arkansas wine country, the diamond mine, Hot Springs, Oakland horse races, Crystal Bridges art museum or the University of Arkansas Fayetteville main campus.

Detailed information about our Tri-peaks region is available online.

When guests check in, we provide guidebooks, brochures on the trails, a calendar of events, local shopping and restaurant information, plus a printed house guide like the electronic one via Airbnb. All these materials are stored in the kitchen cabinet by the back door, bottom shelf.
