Charming old farmhouse, beautifully restored by the Anglo-Irish artist/owner, delightfully decorated and furnished as a lived-in family home.
In an exquisite setting and uniquely beautiful landscape, built on two floors of warm Sienese stone and brick, the house is encircled by harmonious mature gardens, wide terracotta terraces,olive groves and huge old cypresses, with panoramic views of the Castle and the surrounding undulating “Crete” hills.
It comfortably accomodates 8 people with 3 double bedrooms and 2,5 bathrooms in the main house, plus the guest house across the courtyard, consisting in a large double bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a kitchen area, and its own private terrace to one side.
The 12mt pool is decoratively immersed in roses and lavender, aromatic shrubs and fragrant herbs, the cook’s delight.
The house is exclusive to one party rentals. It is entered by a shady loggia, and nearby is the pergola covered by jasmine and roses for eating out at a travertine marble table, with barbeque. Plentiful garden furniture& hammocks, pool towels are provided.
Persian blinds and mosquito screens fitted throughout, ceiling fans in the bedrooms.
Facilities: satellite TV, video and DVD player, stereo CD set, telephone with wifi internet access, dishwasher, washing machine, iron, food mixers, Bosch refrigerator, large oven, etc., fully central heated for winter lettings, two fireplaces. Only 1km from the village with restaurants and bars, supermarket, post office, chemist, excellent butcher, bank, petrol station.
Interaction with Guests
We meet and greet our guests, and are always available in case they need suggestions or any other assistance during their holiday.
San Giovanni is very small and quiet village, but it has a bank, supermarket, general store, bakery, bar with newsagent and tobacconist, post office, doctor surgery and chemist, butcher, wine tasting and local delicacies shops,....thermal baths, horseriding, balloonig, tennis courts. Restaurants and bars are all at a short distance and throughout the whole area, waitng to be explored. Specialities are the local White Truffles ,Artichokes, Pecorino sheep cheeses and Orcia and Brunello Wine. The Festival of the White Truffle is held in November.
The Castle, an imposing medieval structure beautifuly restored, and built in part by the same Piccolomini Pope as Pienza, includes the Town Hall and Conference rooms, and a Museum dedicated to the White Truffle. On the Castle square, an inviting "hotel de charme" with an excellent restaurant and on the main street the Osteria delle Crete,offering tasteful and refined lunches and dinners.
A walk around San Giovanni d’Asso will also bring you to the small but intriguing early Romanesque Chapel of San Pietro in Villore.
Another interesting local feature consists in the ‘Bosco della Ragnaia’: this is a wood which has been landscaped by a local american artist . You can see the extension of this project at the end of the valley, coming out from the house onto the road for Asciano, the gate is just there on the left.
Montisi is the sister village of San Giovanni d'Asso, 6 km away, and is another integral small medieval settlement, with its own festival in august, La Giostra di Simone, with a jousting on horseback and pageantry in period costume. Nearby are Siena, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Buonconvento,Chiusure, San Quirico d'Orcia.... Endless list of beautiful locations, full of many historic sites and towns to visit, summer festivals, pageants, museums, concerts and art exhibitions
It is indispensable to have a car, drivers are available for wine & culture/shopping tours and extra transit. Private parking area on the premises.
