We are a bilingual (English/Spanish) household.

My one-month stay at Krista and Ben's home was really great;
the home is very well located (secure and good access to buses), the room/house is spacious, calm and very clean (as shown and the picture), and Krista, Ben and their kids are very friendly and welcoming. Even Dory, the dog, is very cute!
I warmly recommend!
Kristin and Ben were super hosts; great communication and very nice; bilingual English and Spanish so great there. Very well positioned from the SJO airport for a place to land, gather bearings and set off, which is what I did. Safe overnight car park, $4 two blocks away. Ask them to send you to the Tico bar/restaurant a few blocks away for some delicious and cheap local food and beers. The locals will cheerfully engage with even your broken Spanglish and super friendly. Order the pescado emanizado with a side of house made chilera. You're welcome!
We had a FANTASTIC stay here for our one-month visit to Costa Rica! Krista and Ben were very welcoming, and we instantly felt right at home. The kids were curious but understanding and respectful when we needed to spend time getting work done, and Ben was kind enough to let us join in on his kettle bell exercises 3x/week. Dory, their dog, is awesome, too! (She was afraid of us at first, but it only took a day or two for her to get used to us.) Krista and Ben's place is conveniently located -- closer to the airport than San José itself -- while also being a safer, more family-oriented area. There are numerous conveniences and cultural sights within walking distance: the central park, several grocery options and even the vibrant central market that has a huge selection of fresh meats, fruits, vegetables and many choices for traditional Costa Rican goods, gifts, and cuisine. During our stay, we enjoyed many traditional Costa Rican breakfasts (gallo pinto, huevo frito, plátanos y jugo) at “Maria’s,” a cafe only one block away for just $4 USD per person. The room met our needs just perfectly. Having a private bathroom attached to the room was very convenient, and the shower water is nice and hot! Being at the front of the house nearest the street, it can be a bit noisy during the day with the windows open, but Heredia quiets down a LOT in the late evening. (Earplugs might be helpful if you want to head to bed early any night.) The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals, making coffee or tea, etc., and Ben and Krista made sure we had room in the refrigerator and cupboard for our groceries. During our stay, we visited Poás Volcano National Park, Cafe Britt, San José and the Toucan Rescue Ranch (all day visits), and then ventured out further for some 3-4 day trips to Manuel Antonio National Park and Arenal Volcano National Park. We reached all of these locations almost exclusively with the public transit in the area. Public bus transportation is extremely affordable (around $1 USD or less per ride within the greater central valley area). Krista was very helpful when we were figuring out how to get around by bus. This was EXTREMELY helpful because you can’t always rely on the bus schedules or prices you find on the Internet, and often bus stops are not marked on Google Maps. Public busses to Manuel Antonio and Arenal were also affordable -- Getting to San José costs about $1 USD (535 colones), and from there it’s only about $10 USD (4,676 colones) to Manuel Antonio or $4 USD (1,930 colones) to La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano, per person. We only used a taxi once for a short distance from the nearby town of San Isidro (which we got to by bus) to the Toucan Rescue Ranch. Overall, the room met our needs perfectly for our budget stay in Costa Rica. We highly recommend staying...
My wife and I had an amazing stay with Krista, Ben and their wonderful kids. This was our second trip back to Costa Rica and we wanted to explore some of the surrounding towns near San Jose and this was a perfect launch point to be able to easily explore the area. Krista and Ben go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home as well as always being willing to help in any way possible. They are great people with very well behaved children. The kids were great and we thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them during our stay. We very much appreciated that they speak English as well as Spanish and this came in handy more than once! The house is very, very nice, it is clean, well kept and offers modern conveniences such as hot water, tv and appliances. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. We had plenty of privacy when we needed it but also some great conversation and interaction during our stay. Their house in Heredia is close to down town San Jose, Alajuela, the airport as well as tourist destinations such as Poas National Park. The bus is very accessible from their house and is very easy to use along with being very affordable compared to taxi's and rental cars. We took the bus to Poas and it cost around $14 total for the trip. The bus to San Jose is less than $2 ea.. Krista and Ben referred us to some very good eating establishments as well as things to see and do. We left feeling that we had made some new friends and can't wait to see/stay with them again! We highly recommend staying with Krista and Ben and I can't imagine having a bad experience. You will enjoy them, their children, the beautiful house and the location. Don't be fooled by the busy streets and all the noise as it completely disappears later on when it's time for bed and you can hear a pin drop late at night. Thanks again Krista and Ben we'll see you again soon!
