  • Mimi and the other lady were great host, they work very hard on the house garden and cleaning stuff, they are welcoming and let us feel it is just like home, and wonderful experience in the jungle cabin, many Mosquitos but you can have all the sound of natures!!

  • 11/10 !!

The Jungle Suite was a beautiful place to stay on the island. I am utterly grateful for the experiences shared here in this beautiful home. Mimi, the caretaker is a incredibly wonderful soul and kindhearted individual. She made my stay very comfortable and I felt like I was home. I would stay here again in a heart beat and recommend this home to anyone looking for a true Aloha vibe.

Thank you so much Mimi you are wonderful and my trip has been enhanced by your being. Words cannot truly express my gratitude. I will be back. Love love love.

  • It was different, the jungle house has a lovely atmosphere very private and relaxing. The only thing that is missing is a toilet for Night Time, you will have to walk to the main house.

  • I must confess that the "Jungle Suite" was not what I thought it would be. I won't go into specifics here, as everything has been addressed privately with the host, but I will say that until some renovations have been made I would not recommend this place. That said, I have been assured that said renovations will be taking place in the near future.

As far as Loren goes, he was quite responsive in all communications, and upon learning of the maintenance issues encountered, immediately issued an unsolicited partial refund. Although I did not meet him in person, I found him to be courteous and responsive via email.

  • pros: cheap, and you're actually in the jungle - the room faces trees on three sides, and it's pretty amazing. sound of waterfall and birds/frogs at night - gorgeous. it's close to hilo, but far enough away that you're really detached. there are a number of great beach parks within 10-minutes (north or south). caretaker is nice, and it was cool to chat with other guests.
cons: it's a little rugged. i was fine with this, but there are bugs, and there are some lizards. the room itself is pretty sparse, but i think that's clear in the ad and it's what i wanted. you *need* a car. the bus is irregular doesn't run that often.

  • I quite loved the spot. It's like being in the jungle..... which is the kind of experience I was looking for.

  • An atypic place with a beautiful view on the tropical forest!
The room was not really tight (several geckos and a cat came in the middle of the night and we still don'tr know how he entered). It could be disturbing.

So, charming place if you have a roots mood.

  • We picked up this room because of the location and because we liked the picture on airbnb. Unfortunately the location is actually several miles away from the advertised position, in a location far less attractive compared to what we saw by just following our GPS.
The room itself was pretty dirty (except the bed linen, which were clean). There is a cold water shower behind the room, which looks like it hasn't been cleaned for ages. The bathroom in the main house and the shared living room and kitchen are ok though.

Would I have visited this place before booking, I wouldn't have booked it, and if I had to I wouldn't have accepted to pay more than 20 dollars per night.

    Response from Loren:

The house is 4 miles north of hilo as advertised. We are not found on gps and we send text directions to house. The room has been reviewed and we found that banana plants were growing into and leaning on roof which was allowing leaves and some rain in. Since this guest's visit we have chopped the brush back thus preventing rain and leaves into area.
The cold water shower had a leaking drip that was causing moss to grow fast. The shower has been fixed and the moss was easy to clean as it hadn't been there long.
This is a unique experience, and Has been a positive one for most guests as past reviews will show, Please read description of premises before you reserve, premises and location are as described, as we wish to avoid any misunderstanding in the future, the room was cleaned in advance and the banana tree (it is a jungle) created some problems which we didnt catch in time in time. Banana trees have been cut back, shower repaired, please read all past reviews, and look for new ones, Aloha, Amy
