About this listing

In the village of Eamont Bridge overlooking the River Eamont, our well equipped Cottage gives easy access to the Lake District and the Eden Valley. This historic area has Neolithic monuments, Roman forts medieval castles and fabulous scenery.

The space

The Cottage was a stable, converted in 1989 to make a comfortable dwelling suitable for four people.Everyone who has stayed with us has said how lovely the cottage is. We overlook the River Eamont and the River Lowther flows down the other end of the village. Six miles away is Lake Ullswater, with its spectacular views. Wordsworth loved this area and so do I. Come and see it for yourself.

Guest access

Guests have access to the walled garden with pond and mature trees, off road parking space (down a very narrow lane), clothes line and outdoor table and chairs.

Interaction with guests

We like to meet our guests if possible and show them round the cottage. Because our house is adjacent to the Cottage, guests can come at any time if there is a problem. We have had guests from all over the world and they have all been delightful and delighted.

Other things to note

The cottage is well stocked with books, CD's and games. We have internet access and Janet and Graham are available for further information.

PLEASE NOTE for bookings of three days or less, a surcharge of £30 will be added for housekeeping, payable on arrival.

This place was within easy walking distance to historic sites and walking trails. Janet's place was very clean and well equipped. The water system was under repair while we were there.

Lovely comfortable cottage close to Penrith - a great base for visiting the Lake District.

Janet has a fabulous little cosy cottage in the lakes, which we stayed in for a long weekend of hill walking. There is plenty to do and see in the local area and some absolutely stunning days out on the hills with a small amount of traveling. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a cosy base when visiting the lakes!

Janets communication was excellent from the start which made it super easy to book. When we arrived the place was cosy and spotless. It was perfect for us.

The cottage was lovely and Janet was a very nice host, letting us stay after check out to have breakfast (we'd cleared out our rooms and washed the dishes afterwards of course). We had problems with the wifi not working but this wasn't really that important for us so we didn't ask Janet about it, probably the password in the flat might be outdated. In any case, lovely cottage, and has a good connection to Ullswater lake by bus. It's worth noting that visiting the Lake District can be quite difficult without a car, so if one is counting on a bus I'd just recommend taking into account that they come every hour to two and that rides can be quite long (an hour and a half to Windermere, for instance). Thanks for letting us stay at your cottage Janet, and being so lovely to us!

Very nice cottage on the edge of the Lake District. Excellent location for exploring the area. The drive is a bit tight for a 4 x 4! Relaxed host - who left us alone. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Response from Janet:
Good review Thomas. I know the access lane to the cottage is narrow and always warn guests to take care. There is alternative parking in the village. Janet

Close to pubs and a short drive to Penrith shops, but easy access to the Lakes and a lovely little place to stay

I am still working part time for the Probation Service and, of course, running the holiday cottage. We like to travel, usually with friends, and often meet up with my brother from Australia. Books, biking, walking, gardening, eating at good restaurants, socialising and meeting people are all at the top of my list.
